I love "The Best of the Best' movies. However, I really do wish that he did more movies other than 'Best of the Best'. Phillip Rhee is extremely charismatic, and his martial art form is beautiful. I love this man!!! :)))
Philip Rhee was good in BOTB. Entertainment is such a hard field to get into and make it. Martial arts films more so as it is a niche genre. Everything has to happen right. Have a talented martial artist, hopefully he can sort of act, have other actors who can act/are known, have a good producer and film company willing to do the film...great script (nothing cheesy and poorly written...cliche). Steven Segal go that in Above the Law...then his subsequent films became cookie cutter...one man against armies of bad guy type films...dumb plots, bad dialogue... Brandon Lee was on his way up. Each film (pretty much) was better than the next. He had "star power" even if he was no Bruce Lee (hard to live up to him even if he was his father). Unfortunately he was killed filming The Crow. Live round in a prop gun. Never happens. Not with Stallone's films. Schwarzenegger's films. Etc.
Now I know why I always liked this guy. He is a very inspiring person , he even talks like a person who you know has that IT factor ! The title of Master does him justice.
Phillip Rhee is such a cool dude. He should be cast in the next Expendables film. The part about "don't let yourself become numb to things" was such good teaching to instill in young ppl. I have a 1 year old daughter who I will teach martial arts and will teach her the same moral etiquette about not becoming nb to things around you. Awesome interview!
sourcescience true but Phillip Rhee made them bearable. He can do a film where it totally ignores the continuity of 3 or even 2 on and just have him and his son (played by his real life son) in adventure. I think it’d be dope!
I recently re watched the 4 best of the best movies and "Silent Assassins", which wasn't a great movie, but the fights were really good, particularly Philip Rhee's scenes! He's definitely one of my favourite martial arts actors. His fight with Simon Rhee in BOTB1 is one of the most incredible fight scenes I've ever seen! Legend
Hello...I'm writting from Portugal. I need to say: What an amazing podcast with the Martial Artist / Actor that inspired me to pratice Martial Arts since I was 6 with that Best of the Best movie. That movie is amazing on all aspects ... The inner deep messages that are shared...that inner Power, spiritual side, believe in yourself, help other, unblocking your fears, overcome yourself...dealing with emotional content to you do different... AMAZING ... AN INSPIRATION THIS MAN. YOU CAN FEEL IT BY IS ENERGY, BY WAY HE EXPRESSES HIMSELF 🙏🏻 That's Martial Arts 🙏🏻 Please do that podcast just About Best of the Best... Amazing that their gonna do a reboot...Amazing news 🙏🏻 One of my dreams is to go to The US and meet him...have a chat and train under him... He still teaches at Master Jun Chong Studio ???
Best of the Best...maybe the best choreographed martial arts film. More so than the Bruce Lee movies because even his movies over did moves for entertainment sake. Best of the Best didn't dot hat. And the opponents were matched. No ridiculous.. MA hero vs factory worker who clearly had no training but for some reason wanted to have a go. Every martial arts film star has that in one of their films...Bruce Lee fighting underground factory works in the cave. Perfect Weapon w/ Jeff Speakman. Jackie Chan... A shame Philip Rhee didn't get good breaks in film after BOTB 1 & 2. Just says Asians are still not really bankable in film today. In 2020. Or in this last 2 decades. Unless the film is a martial arts films. Which aren't coming to the big screen much these few years. For the last decade? Don't recall one. Most go straight to DVD or BluRay. Titles most will never hear about. And are just income for guys like Dolph Lundgren, Segal and JCVD...pay the bills. This interview....I think you could have got Philip to get to the point faster. With all due respects to him as a MA. Could have played some of his film clips and ask him to talk about them..etc.
Awesome interview! Didn't know I could like Phillip Rhee even more!
THIS MADE MY HUSBAND'S DAY. He grew up watching Phillip Rhee and his movies! Thanks so much and please have him back on the show soon.
My childhood hero! The most underrated martial artist actor. Love this man!

He almost made Kato movie but racist warner brothers executives canned it, John Woo was going to direct.
