I recently re watched the 4 best of the best movies and "Silent Assassins", which wasn't a great movie, but the fights were really good, particularly Philip Rhee's scenes! He's definitely one of my favourite martial arts actors. His fight with Simon Rhee in BOTB1 is one of the most incredible fight scenes I've ever seen! Legend
That kid said his mom never cared for him but she put him in rehab, that shows she did care for him.
man wish i would knew some of this Jew JItzu ...
There could be no better custodian of GJJ. His grandfather was a genius and his philosophy will ensure GJJ's success, well into the future.
I love that man
Hello...I'm writting from Portugal. I need to say: What an amazing podcast with the Martial Artist / Actor that inspired me to pratice Martial Arts since I was 6 with that Best of the Best movie. That movie is amazing on all aspects ... The inner deep messages that are shared...that inner Power, spiritual side, believe in yourself, help other, unblocking your fears, overcome yourself...dealing with emotional content to you do different... AMAZING ... AN INSPIRATION THIS MAN. YOU CAN FEEL IT BY IS ENERGY, BY WAY HE EXPRESSES HIMSELF 🙏🏻 That's Martial Arts 🙏🏻 Please do that podcast just About Best of the Best... Amazing that their gonna do a reboot...Amazing news 🙏🏻 One of my dreams is to go to The US and meet him...have a chat and train under him... He still teaches at Master Jun Chong Studio ???
The Gracie marketing I love how they promote themselves and they tell you how great they are. They should be showing loosing 4 fights and more against the . talking about "" to be is a JOKE, they gave "for God sake, it is all about promoting and making money. They called real but doesn't work in the UFC by the way the Jiu-Jitsu used was created more an 1000 years ago before the Gracies claim it was created by them. There plenty videos where the Grazie surrender by throwing the towel and getting their arm broken. RIckson another "myth" created by the Grazie marketing machine! the Grazie killer, please check the youtube. Gracies only fight matches with "special rules" that will benefit! Read the reports and listen to youtube in Pride. The Gracies do surrender and throw the towel it happened in the UFC and in Pride. The couldn't adapt to the UFC and got their kicked and , the answer is simply the Gracies can only fight Jiu-Jitsu and cannot fight on their feet. They look weak when they fail to take down an opponent and get their ass kicked. The Gracies were great promoting their BS, their secret BS is answered by "WHERE ARE THEY NOW" nowhere to be found in MMA. The Gracies have PhD in excuses! They were weak and predictable in MMA. You can find them in BJJ championship where is not allowed to punch nor to kick that is NOT fighting is winning by points. Get real learn to fight,
Mr Rhee my family and I love your movies thank u
Phillip Rhee is such a cool dude. He should be cast in the next Expendables film. The part about "don't let yourself become numb to things" was such good teaching to instill in young ppl. I have a 1 year old daughter who I will teach martial arts and will teach her the same moral etiquette about not becoming nb to things around you. Awesome interview!
Man I wish you got him talking about the Best Of the Best series. Ugh
Goes to an Adam Sandler movie thinking it's wholesome.
Damn legend man! Best of the Best was 2nd best to Blood Sport but it was a great movie
Best of the Best...maybe the best choreographed martial arts film. More so than the Bruce Lee movies because even his movies over did moves for entertainment sake. Best of the Best didn't dot hat. And the opponents were matched. No ridiculous.. MA hero vs factory worker who clearly had no training but for some reason wanted to have a go. Every martial arts film star has that in one of their films...Bruce Lee fighting underground factory works in the cave. Perfect Weapon w/ Jeff Speakman. Jackie Chan... A shame Philip Rhee didn't get good breaks in film after BOTB 1 & 2. Just says Asians are still not really bankable in film today. In 2020. Or in this last 2 decades. Unless the film is a martial arts films. Which aren't coming to the big screen much these few years. For the last decade? Don't recall one. Most go straight to DVD or BluRay. Titles most will never hear about. And are just income for guys like Dolph Lundgren, Segal and JCVD...pay the bills. This interview....I think you could have got Philip to get to the point faster. With all due respects to him as a MA. Could have played some of his film clips and ask him to talk about them..etc.
My childhood hero! The most underrated martial artist actor. Love this man!
I can bet Deontay Wilder has that "chi"... 41 fights, 40 knockouts, 1 draw
You twat. Didnt knock out Fury did he? You stupid fucking spoon
Excellent!! Just gave this podcast a shoutout when I interviewed his brother Simon Rhee. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/KYQLmLe-Dms/видео.html
This video is 4 years old now,and sadly still no news of a best of the best reboot
Awesome interview! Didn't know I could like Phillip Rhee even more!
On 3 days fight notice Ryron (181lb's/82kg's) lost against Josh Barnett (250lb's/113kg's) and 12 minutes into the fight as well. I never watched it but dammit that's admirable on Ryron's part, especially when the heavier guy is a seasoned pro too!!! Big up's to Ryron.
I wish this guy did a lot more martial arts movies he is great on screen.
Dang I wish he would’ve talked about Best of the best.
I love this! I'm confident in my ability to tap. Wow. Such respect. I can I can only hope I can be humble enough to grow this way.
Thank you
"Ya know... ya know?... YA KNOW!... Ya know?!"
Can't wait sequel Best of the best. Loss R.I.P. Chris Penn and John Dye.
I like him.
its 2018 and still no best of the best reboot :(
Why I don't go to other gyms to roll when I'm away from my home gym on vacation or whatever -- 52:12
Ryron and Rener are my favorite Gracies. I think they are genuine good guys. Some of the others can be kind of dicks coughcoughrenzocoughcough ☺
You know
Now I know why I always liked this guy. He is a very inspiring person , he even talks like a person who you know has that IT factor ! The title of Master does him justice.
he said some things
Ronda follows Edmund's directions but that is why she looses too. (1:06:50)
Mr Rhee is just like in his movies: A great person!
Just becuz of this wise speech my time wasn't wasted
Barnett when fought and won with him was fat (you could not see any muscle and work on him), not to mention that he was some years older than Ryron Gracie. Ryron is lucky he did not try to compete in UFC these days because he would have his face smash quickly.
Piotr he would definitely not get his face smashed. The element of the fight he is best at is defense and distance management. He may lose - but he wouldn’t get BEAT UP.
He’d 100% get his face smashed
Yes. It is good to hear such a respectful and ego-less presentation of the art
Why it doesn't have more views??
You guys better get Phillip Rhee to come back soon! I wanna hear more about the Best of the Best reboot!!! :D Love that film! ^_^
I love "The Best of the Best' movies. However, I really do wish that he did more movies other than 'Best of the Best'. Phillip Rhee is extremely charismatic, and his martial art form is beautiful. I love this man!!! :)))
Philip Rhee was good in BOTB. Entertainment is such a hard field to get into and make it. Martial arts films more so as it is a niche genre. Everything has to happen right. Have a talented martial artist, hopefully he can sort of act, have other actors who can act/are known, have a good producer and film company willing to do the film...great script (nothing cheesy and poorly written...cliche). Steven Segal go that in Above the Law...then his subsequent films became cookie cutter...one man against armies of bad guy type films...dumb plots, bad dialogue... Brandon Lee was on his way up. Each film (pretty much) was better than the next. He had "star power" even if he was no Bruce Lee (hard to live up to him even if he was his father). Unfortunately he was killed filming The Crow. Live round in a prop gun. Never happens. Not with Stallone's films. Schwarzenegger's films. Etc.
He almost made Kato movie but racist warner brothers executives canned it, John Woo was going to direct.
People like to dawg the Gracie brothers for not competing or having high level competitors in tournaments but think about this. If they get some crazy athlete who is strongest, fastest, most explosive AND applies the energy efficient learning principles and mindset, he/she would be unstoppable.
Vegan Jiu-Jitsu becuase real martial artists dont care about competition
The techniques that the Gracies teach online are legit. Also, Josh Barnett outweighed Ryron by 70+ pounds lol
It’s a BIG 70 pounds. Josh looks like he could be 100 pounds bigger than him plus he was probably wearing his wrestling shoes which would make a huge difference
profound!
Ryron you are the best keep going
THIS MADE MY HUSBAND'S DAY. He grew up watching Phillip Rhee and his movies! Thanks so much and please have him back on the show soon.
Barnett also uses roids
Barnett's listed weight by the way isn't 250 but 261 pounds.
"It's partnered Yoga, with submissions, and a little resistance... here and there."
I love listening to Ryron speak, every time I listen to him I want to go roll, and then solve social injustices. No knock on Rener, he gets me excited to make healthy sandwiches.
+Eugene Song They made me start 2 weeks ago at 50 years old. It's just BJJ, but it's all I can get.
That's awesome man. They always talk about how Helio Gracie taught BJJ till he was 95, so inspirational.
+Eugene Song It kept him alive that long, it may kill me before I'm in shape enough to learn anything.
Well I hope you have a gym with good training partners that know how to keep it playful
+Eugene Song Not really, just getting smashed from day one. However I managed to dominate on a small blue belt last Wednesday. Haven't been back yet tho cause I really paid for it. Makes me wonder why he's a blue.
I think their should be a Best Of The Best 5.

You mean 3 and 4 weren’t horrifying enough?
sourcescience true but Phillip Rhee made them bearable. He can do a film where it totally ignores the continuity of 3 or even 2 on and just have him and his son (played by his real life son) in adventure. I think it’d be dope!
3 and 4 were good I don't know what you are talking about.
