    Glad to see you enjoying the whoops/micros at last. I realised a few years ago I was having far more fun and a lot less hassle flying 65mm,75mm and more recently 2S 85mm micros. I now look at my 5 inch quads and think "how could I fly that monster?". I can fly in the house , around the house , in the garden , the park etc and get zero complaints or hassle from people. Plus I can have a pocketful of 1S or 2S lips and fly for ages. You have to try a modern 2S 85mm though , Meteor85 or the Mobula8 , I seriously think you will start to question the bigger quads after that.

      If you fly smaller craft and basically avoid people, you will not get hassled. When I started flying in rural areas, I have not been approached at all, by anyone. I could get away with flying a heavy, but that just ain't my style. I try to keep it legal.

    I’m so glad that around here no one really cares about drones and I can fly wherever, whenever. I have my 5” quads all the way down to whoops. My favorite so far is my 3.5” 6s ALMOST sub250g kinfpv ayla one of a kind. But for as many whoops as I’ve flown and tunes ive tried and props and frames and everything. I CANNOT get anything to fly like the weight and feel of a 5”. They just GIT IT lol. Good luck to all in whatever they fly. Just stay in the air!

  • @TimsDrones

    Regarding FAA regs -= its true you don't have to register under 250g quads, meaning also that they do not require RID. However, all FAA flight regs that apply to over 250g drones, still apply to under 250g drones too - IOW, you still cannot fly your under 250g whoop FPV sans spotter, or BVLOS ever. Our FAA is ever stupid. And deaf to any logic we might present about their idiotic regs. Gonna try that tune of yours.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад

      You are absolutely right. So, just fly within VLOS and have a co-located spotter, no problem. Oh yeah, don't fly in NO Fly Zones, don't fly over trains, and all the other airspace regulations. No problem. You do realize that the FAA is the front agency since they already regulate the airspace, however, there are other agencies involved including the Department of Homeland Security.

    I got into the hobby last summer, because of the RID talk I opted to focus on sub 250g from day 1. Right now my favorite is my Mobula8. It's a ton of fun to fly outside even with a bit of a breeze, it's under 100g AUW, and since I've never flown a 5" quad I can't miss it. At this point I'm not sure I'll ever fly a 5" quad, there are a lot of sub 250g options.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад +2

      You can do a lot in the sub-250 gram category. I have built 2 sub-250 gram 5-inch quads and several sub-250 gram 4-inch quads. They are quite workable. If you want a hot ACRO quad, consider a sub-250 gram 3-inch or 3.5-inch. These will become what the old school 5-inch used to be. Just remember that the sub-250 gram mark is the total all up weight of the craft including battery, action cam, payload, etc. If a quad weighs 150 grams dry (no battery) then the battery can not weigh more than 99 grams. If you strap on a battery that weighs more than 100 grams it no longer qualifies as sub-250, because it isn't.

    I have a ton of fun with micros, definitely think everyone should have them!
    I agree with almost everything you said, except for them flying "pretty close" to a 5". I guess it depends on what you mean by "pretty close". I'd say even the micros that are not whoops and have carbon fiber frames still have a huge difference to even my 3" racing quad, let alone a 5". But hey, that doesn't mean they are bad, I still have like 90% of the fun with all the benefits you mentioned.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад

      "Pretty Close" depends on how you fly. If you are more of an endurance, proximity, or cine pilot then they are pretty close. I can't tell the difference between my 2.5-inch quads and my 7-inch rig except the larger quads cover airspace faster and take less throttle. Otherwise, "Pretty Close". Now if you are a balls-to-the-wall hi-performance ACRO or racing pilot, Nope, not pretty close. That said there are some 3-inch and 3.5-inch performance quads that DO come pretty close. These guys are becoming what the old school 5-inch used to be. Times change. Of course, you could always install remote ID on that 5-inch beast.

  • @tonomoto

    5" quads are overrated. Imagine having a mosquito-like drone and you could be going around tree branches powerlooping the hell of out them. The tech is not there yet, who knows when, it's just a thought. I think the biggest limitation is batteries because the drones around 2010-2012 (when I started) used to have huge batteries because the motors at the time weren't really made for drones and were 'huge', everything was big and heavy. Then hardware improved but a 5" quad is still big and LOUD and people gets scared. In my experience people won't get scared of my 3" 3S quads, they sound nice, are not as big and actually people gets interested, not scared. Those 3" quads that I see around using 6S batteries... super loud, heavy, you don't need 4S/6S batteries on 3" quads, just my opinion. I'm happy you found these little dudes fun! :)

    The crappy thing about RID is the fact that if you're using them for part 107 even whoops need RID wich will be nigh impossible. I use whoops for inspection into tiny areas it would be difficult to get people into, and a giant RID module will completely ruin that.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад

      Fine, but not all RID modules are large. CubePilot makes a small $39 module; paired with a small GPS and you are good to go. I would suggest a 2-inch custom whoop build that will run on 2S or 3S. Yeah, I built one and love it. Sweet little whoop.
      We just need to get a bit inventive. If you are not yet a builder, them maybe time to start.

    • @jeffpv7468
      @jeffpv7468 11 месяцев назад

      @@buddyadkins2432 I quite literally build drones and operate drones for a living if you took a second to look at my profile you would know. The cubepilot rid module does not come with a gps, which is required for remote ID you would need to put one on your drone which is where the bulk and weight comes from. You're basically paying $40 for a Bluetooth chip.
      The whole system is unnecessary for sub 250 and shouldn't require gps at all. On a tinywhoop or other small drones your GPS is always going to be in close proximity to your video transmitter antenna or your receiving antenna both of which will create interference and potentially cause of the GPS to lose connection, and if that happens remote ID dictates that your quad either shut down or land which would be catastrophic.
      Have you ever heard of the Dunning-Kruger effect?

    I really like my Kopis 2.5 with the vista which is hd. I use the Dji goggles v2. It weighs 249 grams with a 4 cell 800 and runs a long time. I think about 8 minutes cruising. Really good range and the recorded video in the googles looks really good. I am not sure if there is a better one by now. I have had it a while. Check out some videos of it.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад

      Just be careful posting long range videos because that is where most flights that violate the regulations are caught. Yeah, people watch the video and know the flight is in violation, then they tip off the FAA. Yes, the FAA is then required to investigate and respond. Flying beyond Visual Line of Sight is a violation regardless of craft weight.

    Everyone who flies an aircraft should be aware of the FAA regulations. You said "None of the Rules Apply". Really? Might want to check into that. Even sub-250 under the Recreational Exemption still requires a TRUST certificate, adherence to a CBO's guidelines, flying within Visual Line of Sight, must have a co-located spotter for FPV, and a few other things. So, there are SOME rules that still apply. Now, I won't even get into the "furtherance of a business". Regardless of weight, it is still an aircraft and still subject to the FAA regulations. Just different than Part 107.

      @@tomverlaine728 Still, the regulations are the regulations. You can take it or leave it, but it doesn't change things. By the way, a tiny whoop is NOT a plastic toy, it is a plastic UAV (drone) subject to FAA regulations. Just because it is small doesn't exempt it. Yeah, you probably won't get arrested, just know and understand the regulations for the airspace you intend to fly; anything. In the USA, that is ALL airspace even 1 inch off the ground in you back yard. These things are already established and have been on the books for years.

    • @buddyadkins2432
      @buddyadkins2432 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@winder6 No. It can not. That is restricted airspace for ALL drones regardless of size. The confusion is thinking that a 65mm framed tiny whoop is a toy; it is not; it is an aircraft. Plus, if it is used for a Part 107 activity then Part 107 rules apply, NOT recreational. Even though the Recreational Exemption is a bit less restrictive than Part 107, the airspace regulations still apply. If it is a NO fly zone, then that means, NO fly zone...any drone, any size.
