Mark, I guess we shouldn't care what people think of us, but heck who doesn't like a compliment, so I'd just like to say how much I dig you man. Out of all the health and diet folks I watch, I resonate with you the most because of your enquiring, open and questioning mind, and you also have a good intuition about what feels best. Although I've taken a lot from various folks (which I appreciate), you're the only person I've watched and thought "I'd love to have a conversation with that guy".
I remember questioning whether we need as much water as we think we need, and after researching about this I found a blog post by yourself questioning the same thing. As it happens I've personally concluded that we need tons of water, and I drink a lot every day (I always have but these days a ton more). The reason I found this video was because I was searching for 'do we need as many calories as we think we need'. I wasn't surprised to see that you were talking about this.
As I drink so much water I simply feel no desire to eat a lot of food. In fact the amount I used to eat before (which was never excessive relative to the general consensus) seems ridiculous to me now. I believe that the water I am drinking is getting every single nutrient and benefit from whatever I am eating. I believe the water also helps with my mental clarity and helps me to feel when to eat and how much. I am clear on when I actually feel hunger and want food, and it's usually never a lot of food. I am also guided to the food that serves me best in any moment, therefore I do not have to stick to a certain diet. Consequently this leads to more variety, which if anything, at least isn't boring. Variety really is the spice of life.
I don't count calories, but I reckon it's well under 1,000 calories that I eat per day.
Finally I particularly liked your point about fast versus slow metabolism, and asking why would you want a goal of having a fast metabolism. I mean is it our life goal to just eat tons of food. Sure there are many great things to eat, and social occasions often include the eating of food (pretty much always if you count drink calories), and that's all good. With my approach I actually end up finding, trying and consuming many different foods which in turn makes those occasions more interesting. Plus I don't eat so much that I'm half asleep whilst talking to people.
    Thanks! :D

Thank you for talking about metabolic flexibility. I’ve been slowly gaining weight and fat, can’t sleep for the life of me, always cold, etc etc. so I have been watching many videos and wondering if I indeed have been eating too few calories for way too long or just thinking it could be the reason for no weight loss. I more recently started working out more and cut the calories even lower(like many people I though that is what I have to do), but instead I gained weight. And I’m eating quite healthy. I weigh 170 now and I think I was aiming for like 1000-1500 calories max a day for a long long time.

I’m on a keto diet and ran into trouble twice because of eating too little calories. My appetite is basically non existent on a zero carb diet, and when you just don’t get hungry you’re in the danger zone. I know more people lost their appetite on a zero carb diet and for them it is important to track that you get enough calories.

    • @authenticallyzenful
      @authenticallyzenful 3 года назад +1

I totally agree. I have to track what I eat. Some days I get more protein than some days or calories. When I lack, I eat a teaspoonful of almond butter or eat a few raspberries or 2 strawberries or 4-5 almonds especially when I feel hungry to get my snacks in. I enjoy how this diet is teaching me not to overindulge and learn how to eat in moderation without the use of junk food and staying low in carbs intentionally.

Just a precision. Catabolism isn't just the breakdown of muscle amino acids as people are often led to believe. Catabolism is the metabolic process where large molecules are broken down into small ones for energy production ( ATP ). Fat burning is catabolism. Glucose burning is catabolism. Digestion is catabolism. Nothing against you it's just a general statement

Just a good enough source. Plus water and id add lemonade for quick glucose. Id feel way better soon aafter. I think its cause im extremely under calories allot. I have a prework before working out to. So.. idk.. important to add, idk why but i dont feel the hunger like I used to. I only eat when i can feel my energy is low as hell . I know thats a glucose thing but... im sure that also means I need vital nutrients. Like now I had a dlice of pizza, gonnna have a mass gainer shake with a banana or something. Then some left overs . Anyway i think i have the slowest metablism on the earth. Lol. And always have.
Do i need to eat 3 times a day.
Do i need to eat twice a day.
Is there a time frame around how close those meals should be together?
Can i just not eat if im not hungry?
Should i use protien shakes to fill the space and increase my protien intake?
Do i need to work out?
I mean i get around with my kids on our bikes and we walk daily we swim alot just fun stuff.

Eugene Roushe yeah, i understand. The body can be strange sometimes. If your 2lbs is consistently coming off then I would say you are fine at 2000. However, if you could sustain a little less then you can do so safely. I don’t think it’s that you need to up your calories, though I am not an expert and don;t know you personally. I do know that consistency is going to be by far the most important thing.
Have you heard of alternate day fasting? That has fantastic results and doesn’t affect metabolism, whats more it increases it. Just ideas. Good luck!

Wolf Boy Yeah I’ve been looking into fasting actually crazy you mention it, atm I eat all my calories in the morning so basically 23 hour fast I guess it would be? Lol but I definitely want to implement a water fast with this.

Eugene Roushe hey mate, thats amazing you are doing 23 hour fast. How do you fit in 2000 kcal into 1 hour? If i were you in this case, I would try to eat a little less in the 1 hour window, since you are already doing so well on the OMAD style eating. If you aimed for 1600-1700 i reckon you will start to see greater weight loss. Or you could start alternate day fasting. I personally find that better than long water fasts. You can eat freely one day and fast for 36 hours. Good luck!

Wrong! I've had a chronic calorie deficit for the last year and I don't lose any weight! And I'm eating low carb, zero sugar. Look up adaptive thermogenesis. The body really does slow down the metabolism in order to preserve energy when there isn't enough food coming in! Just because you haven't experienced this doesn't mean it's not real.
