    I was listening to the Aman Brother podcast, the one with Zero T and he was asked what it was like working with Calibre and he said one of the most important things he picked up from him was it doesn’t matter how simple a track is, music is made to be listened to not looked at. I think in modern dnb we are so quick to keep adding layers of textures to create this wall of noise because the genre has evolved but ultimately it’s the vibe is the most important thing

      But you need butter or it's just really dry bread. Butter=Love.
      A track can be simple but it needs to come from a place of love or its just dry bread.

    • @iloveACID
      @iloveACID Месяц назад

      No because it's baked big difference and if it was just cooked the bread would be grey in colour... also toast has a butterability scale test.
      That a master baker must consider when making hes dough.
      It be like making music with no sound.
      Source ... a baker 1881

    Never been my fav track but I dig the creative chopping. Great breakdown. People get twisted about your titles. The answer here is no, it’s not lazy, the flips and flips are simple but effective and the samples are cheesy maybe but charming when paired with jungle chopping.

    I love simple songs. I make hip hop and have a song that is a single piano, a bass-line and a stringed instrument.
    I also have one that is entirely made out of three melodies I made on bells.
    These are some of my favourite songs. It takes real restraint and vision to stick with such a simple backing track.
    A lot of producers never have this opportunity as they start with the beat first

    Fascinating. I've always kind of hated this move towards minimalism. (I loved the complexity and swing of jungle back then, and this made everything so much more boring). But actually you are totally on the money. This is so minimal and so brilliant at the same time. I just wish it hadn't been quite so influential 🙂

    3:30 unquantized. went thru all opinions on the matter myself. i thought it always sounded better quantized, then hiphop unquantized, then electronic quantized, and now i finally found a good sequencer that will let me unquantize the synths. so now i'm back on the unquantized train!

  • @michamaolepszy3317
    @michamaolepszy3317 2 месяца назад +2

    With the quantization it depends on the samples and the aim of using the percussive sample. In this case this clap works better with no quantization. Generally I think that perkussive samples like claps, bongos etc. can work without quantization. Maybe some of the tambs and shaker too. But the real test for it starts when you try to mix two tracks with turntables. Espacially in drum and bass genre. When you have two tunes with no quantized loops etc. sometimes it is not possible to mix them. Some time ago I've recorded the three piece mix with 60 tunes from the 90s, and some of the blends were almost imbossible to mix! But you know... practice, practice and practice...

    At my weekly in the 90's, the tunes that had little 'imperfections' were more evocative, more emotional and human. The slight imperfections gave life to the song, forcing the listener to engage in a way that provokes an earned depth.
