It was also nominated for the Oscars, Remember me from Coco ended up winning but it was definetly a strong contender for the prize in my opinion. Keala's interpretation at the gala gave me chills. Totally deserved all the prizes it won.
@@jellyunsolved4894 But of course! He couldn’t hit the high notes too well in the first HSM, but didn’t need a singing double in the second or third films after that.
It's kind of funny because this movie bombed so hard its first week because no one knew about it. However, the ones who did see it, told people about it and then it started to make money.
I had no idea what it was either and then I started hearing the opening song and I was like oh great I wasn’t a fan of musical movies but this movie definitely surprised me and entertained me
Hugh Jackman was on a roll with his musical performances. Five years before this, he had Les Miserables as Jean Valjean and still made it work as P.T. Barnum! It’s like there’s a balance between historical fact and musical theater. Kinda like it followed where 1995’s Pocahontas went. It’s not meant to be entirely historically accurate, it’s about the story and singing performances conveyed onscreen. As for Zendaya? That’s amazing she learned about 4-6 weeks worth of balancing and trapeze while knowing how to handle it. I know she can sing, but she handled the trapeze… with ease!
It took Zendaya 6 weeks to get the hang of balancing and trapeze?! Wow. That is fast practice. Usually it takes months, or even years, to get the hang of that stuff.
I don’t normally see live action musical films, but this one really surprised me! Everything from the actors, choreography, and songs are fantastic. I enjoyed your reaction to TGS, Cody!😉
Same with me! I don't normally watch musicals, but this one caught me by surprise and really liked it! And the more I've watched it, the more I've loved it!
This movie is one of my personal favorites because it shows how to embrace who you are as a person. Especially as a person in the LBGT. It might be why I love the songs on this movie. Facts: Branam wasn’t in love with Lind, he was using her to make HIS reputation look good 2. Racism and judging because of looks was very common back then even as of now. 3. Being rich as of now if Charity’s dad was worth a million bucks you might be with 10 times way more as of now. And one question, who nearly cried watching this movie?
I didn't nearly cry I did cry. And not to embarrass myself to much 😂 but I balled my eyes out and I also never knew this was based on a true story which to me makes it more emotional ❤❤
So the story for Keala Settle is even bigger than you described. She actually wanted to shy away from all the lime lite but was known in the industry for getting musicals greenlit. She turned this particular one down a lot because she felt she related to the song too much. She wasn't getting roles because of her body type. She said she'd do the greenlit meeting after being personally asked to and agreed for a bottle of alcohol and that she could stand behind the music stand. When the music started she decided at the last second to come out and sing it. When she reached to Hugh Jackman during the pitch it was because she was unsure and scared and needed to feel grounded (it's also the moment she really let go and opened up). It was apparently that performance that got the movie greenlit and they pretty much offered her whatever she wanted to play the part
the song This is Me breaks me so much. I came out...god, over 10 years ago and it's just a continuous process of being scared and keeping the determination to not go back and hide again.
For Me it doesn't look like he have feeling for her , its more like a fascination for her talent , he love his wife , he just try too hard to be the rich guy who's known by everyone but he forget what's more importante, this movie have really beautiful message in it & the songs are all amazing, love it & love your reaction
Just like Mr. Incredible when he was "moonlighting hero work", he truly was loving towards his wife and showed utmost concern when he thought she was killed from Syndrome's missiles. He hugged Mirage only because was overjoyed at the epitome of being told his family was alive on the island of Nomanisan. His dedication in chasing the glory days could've also been seen as to save his family from going under after he was fired from Insuricare. But that's how I see it being similar to P.T. Barnum as he's portrayed in The Greatest Showman.
26:45 Fun fact the actress didn't actually sing this song it was actually Loren Allred as confirmed on Britain's got Talent last week The actress was going to sing it but they compared the two singers and Rebecca (Jenny Lind) decided that Loren's voice was prettier so they used hers and Loren is a background singer :)
This movie holds a special place in both me and my mom's heart. We're both not the biggest fans of musicals, but this movie completely blew us away, the soundtrack in particular. We duet Rewrite the Stars together every time we go on a car trip.
if you havnt already, you NEED to watch Tick, Tick... Boom! it is (as of now) my favorite movie. the soundtrack, plot, acting, is all PHENOMENAL, and Andrew Garfield does incredible in it!!
I finally watched this film over Christmas break with my mom and I was in tears. The music is also fantastic. If this musical ever becomes a traveling broadway musical I am so going.
Have been very lucky in life. Had a Uncle that ran away from home and join the Cyled Beaddy Circus at 14. He traveled with the circus for a full year until it returned to Baltimore (our home town). Then joined the Navy at 15 and traveled the world for 30+ years. He kept in contact with the people he met in the circus. When I was 9 years old (1960). He walked into my classroom, told the teacher "I'm taking the boy" and took my to where the city of Columbia Maryland is now. The circus was still setting up under the tent at that time. I got to watch the big top get set up using elephants. My uncle seem to know everyone. I got to go back stage and meet the performers. Watch the clowns put on their makeup. Then took my to lunch and came back to have front row seats to watch the show. At 71, it is one of my greatest memories.
Definitely one of my all time favorite movie musicals. FYI - this movie is supposed to be based on the real P.T. Barnum who was a con man. This is why they keep referencing things being "fake" because that is what the real P.T. Barnum did. They even have one of the daughters say he should get something real, like a mermaid. This is in reference to the real P.T. combining the skeleton of a monkey and a fish and saying it was a mermaid. There's way more stuff that he did, but you can Google it to get more context. Also, if you're into underrated movie musicals I highly recommend 🌿Reefer Madness🌿. It has Alan Cumming and Kristen Bell. It is my all time favorite movie musical!
You mention how good all the transitions were. Did you notice the one at the end with Phillip, when Barnum passes the circus into his care? When he runs towards the ring, his coat still has the tails on it, signifying him as “apprentice”, but when he slides into the ring the tails are gone, marking his rise to Ringmaster.
The song This Is Me feels like my anthem song to me because growing up I was always bullied just because I had a rare brain disorder and people made fun of me just for something that I had no control over. Just because it is not visible does not mean that it doesn’t exist. I found out that resent years what I have has been being brought to light and people are bringing more awareness to it. May 17th is now the official awareness day and our awareness ribbon is green and blue. So I thought I could try and also try and bring more awareness out there too. To anyone else out there with NF 1 you are not alone.

I would like for you to check out In the Heights! That musical is done by the songwriter behind Moana and Encanto! Of course, can’t ignore Hamilton! Lin-Manuel made it work!
gosh, this came out 5 years ago - now I feel old 😵 I was so hyped about it back then - still great songs though :3 As for Musical suggestions Sweeney Todd is a good one and even though it seems almost nobody has seen it (or reacted to it on RUclips unfortunately 🙁) Anna and the Apocalypse is really fun :3
Fun Fact: so Rebecca Furguson (actress for Jennie Lind) actually has a good voice and she was originally going to do her own vocals. However, the production had hired some "demo singers". Basically, their job is to sing the song over and over again so the director can find the right feeling that he wants and then the actors would sing based of a recording of their demo singer. This is a fairly common practice with actors who can sing, but don't have a ton of experience with it. When Loren Allred (Singer for Jennie Lind) recorded her portion, it was so perfect that the production team changed her mind.
Heyyyy Cody, have you seen Hamilton? It's a really really really good musical and it has one of the best soundtracks, I recommend you watch it (I'm not forcing you to watch it lol)
Really love this movie and the songs! Thank you for watching this film. Also, Loren Allred (the woman who sings for Jenny Lind’s song) is in the finals of Britain’s Got Talent.
Hugh Jackman is one of those magical actors for me. It’s a joy to see him in anything, *especially* his musical roles. His performance as Valjean makes me cry every time, but this entire movie keeps me either tearing up or crying. Constantly. It’s truly a magical film, regardless of the historical inaccuracies.
You're the greatest Cody! So glad I found your channel. You are an infinite source of joy! If you do decide to do Hamilton in the future get all the tissues, remember to watch with subtitles, and prepare for one of the dopest soundtracks theater has to offer.

Not exactly a musical, but it does have a lot of cool songs in it. I recommend the movie “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”. It’s pretty dang good and the fight scenes are dang amazing! The music is pretty good too. I think that you’d really like it.
Thomas Taplin Cooke brought tent to the circus to England in 1838. Because tents were easier to use they slowly but surely replaced circus buildings, retrofitted buildings and open spaces. One of the largest (if not the largest traveling circus) was “The Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show On Earth” which toured from 1897 to 1902 around the Europe.
I remember coming out in the 5th grade. instantly my bullying was more frequent. even from my teacher saying "no one needs to know about your personal life" so i know what you mean Cody..This Is Me is important to us....
36:15 I know it's probably some simple editing, but that transition of the curtain blowing back and revealing Barnum isn't actually there... It gets me every time.
Here is a fun fact that you didn't know about The Greatest Showman that Hugh Jackson and Rebecca Furguson did work together again in Reminiscene. A very underrated film that came out like year.
At 27:39, your thoughts are the same that mine were the first time I watched this (being that Barnum was catching feelings for Ms. Lind and his wife (Charity) saw that. I actually saw a post a while back that goes a little deeper than that. The post talked more about how Charity is taking the words of the song (all this fancy stuff never being enough) and seeing how Barnum has been trying to make his show bigger and bigger and she sees that none of it will ever be enough for him. He'll always be wanting more, not realizing what he already has.
This is genuinely one of my all time favorite films I've ever seen in my life. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie but it still has countless moments that are still able to stir awe and joy, and in the next moment bring tears. I'm so happy that you were able to finally watch this and share your reaction with us!! Thank you.
I've not watched the movie, but I heard the soundtrack a lot when I was in my junior and senior years of high school. This Is Me, A Million Dreams, and The Greatest Show held quite a big spot in my heart. But, This Is Me hit me harder than those 3, because as a person on the Autism spectrum, I was insecure about who I was. But that song (as well as Show Yourself from Frozen 2) made me embrace who I am.
Musical movies I suggest are Into the woods, Shrek the musical (trust me it's great), Les mis, moulin rouge, Oliver, Chicago, burlesque and I'm sure there are more. Can't remember if you've already reacted to any of these. I'm a big musical fan
For Musicals, there are some old ones, and some fairly recent, the ones that I can think of would be Kinky Boots, South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Sister Act (if you can count it as a musical), and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
I felt absolutelly identified with the song This is me 💙💙. I'm different from some many people and I'm wrong about several things but i'm not ashamed. Judge always for the context of people's character! by how they look inside, not by they look outside or what they do!
They actually played the video and did a whole activity about the song this is me in a class I had during my time at a mental hospital (I was in middle school and they had a in building school for us and had a class about our mental health and stuff.) I loved (and still love) it because I felt so alone and saw myself as broken and useless and the song showed me that I’m not broken I’m just different (I have autism and OCD by the way).
Woo-hoo let's go watch a movie together! I love your reactions❣️ You seem like such a genuinely nice and fun person that I allways feel welcome when I watch your videos❤️
This is such an amazing movie! Everything about it is amazing. I also recommend Phantom of the Opera and Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway. It was the final performance of the show and they filmed it for DVD.
i saw this at the cinema back in 2017 and teared up during a few points of the movie went to the cinema just a few days later to watch it again have been obsessed with this movie since then and this is me will probably always make me tear up hahaha
Everyone always loved the circus i never been to one, but I think it would be very fun to visit the circus to see all of shows and performances that they do .
If you haven't seen it yet you need to see the behind the scenes of the green light script read through. The rendition of This is Me is so emotional, and From Now On is incredible. Hugh Jackman had gotten some cancer removed from his nose so his doctor told him not to overexert himself. But he became so moved by the music he ended up belting out the song and bursting his stitches.
I don't know if you watched it already but there is the recording day video of "This is Me" and the energy of that video is just....amazing. I watch that video from time to time as energy booster. ✨👌🏼
I’m a few months late, but Fun Fact: the bartender in "The Other Side" was actually the choreographer for the scene, and assistant choreographer for the rest of the film! 😂 he really did a good job, The Other Side has to be my favorite song 2nd to From Now On.
I watched it in theater and it was mind-blowing. I had chills during every song. I do know P.T Barnum was not a good man irl, but for movie's sake I had to forget that.
Another great reaction Cody! I have a few recommendations for non-animated musicals for you, most have already been suggested by others Hairspray (2007 version), Rent, Annie (2014 version), Hamilton, Little Shop of Horrors, Pitch Perfect trilogy
Loren Allred is the one who sings Never Enough and she never really took the credit for it, but she recently decided it was time to change that and she's on Britain's Got Talent now, I highly recommend you check out her golden buzzer audition, it will make you feel so proud!

One of the largest (if not the largest traveling circus) was “The Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show On Earth” which toured from 1897 to 1902 around the Europe.
It gave the PT Barnum treatment to PT Barnum’s story. It killed it
This is me has made me cry so many times cause I can relate to the words 😭
Sound of the music is great, it’s old but good. Also Cindy from 1978 about Ccindarella is amazing, you can actually watch it on RUclips xx
I remember coming out in the 5th grade. instantly my bullying was more frequent. even from my teacher saying "no one needs to know about your personal life"
so i know what you mean Cody..This Is Me is important to us....
36:15 I know it's probably some simple editing, but that transition of the curtain blowing back and revealing Barnum isn't actually there... It gets me every time.
The kid who played young Phineas has a bright future ahead of him. What an actor and singer.
Thank you.
it’s so cool both of our favorite songs is ‘this is me’ and this movie gives me different kinds of emotions,it’s crazy
I waited for this reaction especially from you whole year, thanks for make me happy today, Cody☺️☺️💥
Loved watching this with you. You're amazing!
I cried when he goes back to his family at the end
I will say, Zac Efron in Hairspray was great! I highly recommend watching that one next. Besides that movie is just tons of fun!
For Musicals, there are some old ones, and some fairly recent, the ones that I can think of would be Kinky Boots, South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Sister Act (if you can count it as a musical), and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Cody, you're awesome. Magical friendship hugs 😊
Not a reacts recomendation, but I'd recomend looking at all the behind the scenes stuff like the making of Come Alive and the proposal day test audio
I felt absolutelly identified with the song This is me 💙💙. I'm different from some many people and I'm wrong about several things but i'm not ashamed. Judge always for the context of people's character! by how they look inside, not by they look outside or what they do!
i don't know what but those last verses at the end at the ballet recital, always get me
Hamilton is a great music and phantom of the opera is also wonderful!
Also tick tick…boom is amazing
They actually played the video and did a whole activity about the song this is me in a class I had during my time at a mental hospital (I was in middle school and they had a in building school for us and had a class about our mental health and stuff.) I loved (and still love) it because I felt so alone and saw myself as broken and useless and the song showed me that I’m not broken I’m just different (I have autism and OCD by the way).
My ex wife cheated and ruined all the plans I had for us. This movie has helped me so much. Glad you did it 👏
Woo-hoo let's go watch a movie together!
I love your reactions❣️ You seem like such a genuinely nice and fun person that I allways feel welcome when I watch your videos❤️
Este es uno de mis musicales favoritos, gracias por dedicarle un video🤩🥰😊
I'll probably never forget that one time I had a short solo in This Is Me for a school performance
This is such an amazing movie! Everything about it is amazing.
I also recommend Phantom of the Opera and Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway. It was the final performance of the show and they filmed it for DVD.
i saw this at the cinema back in 2017 and teared up during a few points of the movie
went to the cinema just a few days later to watch it again
have been obsessed with this movie since then and this is me will probably always make me tear up hahaha
INTO THE WOODS! That movie is so underrated and good! Definitely recommend!
I don't know if you watched it already but there is the recording day video of "This is Me" and the energy of that video is just....amazing. I watch that video from time to time as energy booster. ✨👌🏼
Thank you for making these videos you've helped me get courage
Man's monolouge in the middle got me crying 🥺
We need High School Musical reactions!!
I’m a few months late, but
Fun Fact: the bartender in "The Other Side" was actually the choreographer for the scene, and assistant choreographer for the rest of the film!
I have a few recommendations for non-animated musicals for you, most have already been suggested by others
Hairspray (2007 version), Rent, Annie (2014 version), Hamilton, Little Shop of Horrors, Pitch Perfect trilogy
“Any musicals?”
Instantly thinks of all the Starkid musicals.. 😂
Into the Woods! It’s cut down quite a bit from the stage version but I think the adaptation holds up very well
Loren Allred is the one who sings Never Enough and she never really took the credit for it, but she recently decided it was time to change that and she's on Britain's Got Talent now, I highly recommend you check out her golden buzzer audition, it will make you feel so proud!
I love the greatest showman it’s one of my fav movies, soz for the late comment btw 🤣
The seen at the bar the barmen is one come with dance for it
Euyyy Cody I feel u on the meaning of this is me so powerful I support u bro
YESSSS BROOOO THIS IS MY FAMILY’S FAVORITE MUSICAL
The circus performances in the film are amazing. It's like watching a local La La Land.
Love your reaction so much, this movie is amazing😊😊
I’m a 20 year old lesbian and I full heartedly agree the song this is me is soo inspiring and give a lot of hope❤️
I love your reaction. I love this video and i feel the same way about this movie too. The song this is me is my great song for me and everyone too.
I don't know if you ever watched "August Rush" but for me it falls under one of the greatest movies like the greatest showman. I loved it :) maybe you could do a reaction to "August Rush (2007)"
