  • A couple of things to note with this board. The timekeeper and Sub-A pcb gun board are essential for this game to boot. Without these 2 parts (especially a timekeeper) the game will not start. The fujitsu MB8421 ram is responsible for some of the foreground as well as text sprites. The large Taito TC0480 SCP QFP is graphics generator IC. It is responsible for the graphics in the game.

    Thanks so much for posting this. As you pointed out so little info on this game. This may be the first actual video of the real pcb running online. I believe all others are from MAME which has some gfx bugs. Looking forward to an upcoming game play video of it. Always enjoy the repair videos, and even more for the rarer games.

      There is a small clip of the attract mode running on what seems to be the original cabinet, though can't tell if the original pcb is inside or it's just running MAME. Try searching "Arcade Operation Wolf 3 fully Restored"

    I played this at Arcade Club here in the UK. It has very little to do with Operation Wolf. It feels more like a failed Terminator game.
    Great work getting it working. I would have no clue where to start.

      Thanks a lot as usual! It was made during a time where we saw a lot of similar games. Lethal Enforcers, Terminator, Revolution X , etc. It doesnt get a whole lot of attention but it is a neat one in the series I think. Definitely not fair lol.

    Thank you so much Luke for the Great video.
    Those "TimeKeeper" chips can be a real hassle. What struck me about this board is
    the amount of replacement that had to be done. As well as a few thoughts and questions
    about this board. One, did you have to repair any traces like you normally, well, ha ha "normally"
    have to do. Two, that pin you removed, I wonder what it's function is or was on the board previous
    to it's "Junk" status from whatever damages that happened to this board.
    Is it necessary to the function of the system as a whole or some specific part of the game? Only way to tell
    is play the game right? Lol I honestly think we need more videos like this one explaining boards that have very
    little documentation and discussion about them. Sure, this game isn't as glam as a CPS1 or CPS2 or CPS3 board.
    However, it is still very important to have content like this and I am super happy for future people needing this info.

    • @lukemorse1
      @lukemorse1  2 года назад +1

      Haha, no problem at all! There was a lot that needed to go into fixing this one and I am lucky I had the parts. The bottom of the board didnt have any trace damage but when it arrived, it had previous repairs on the board. Because one of the qfp's was shorting to ground, it is possible that it killed the other customs on the board. WIth ram and other ttl IC's there are sometimes pins that arent utilized. If you have the schematics, it is easy to tell but without them, it can be a bit of a guessing game. Hoping that some of this will help out someone in the future at least. Thanks a lot as always!

    Hey Luke, great video man! I really can´t tell if you´re missing some graphics or not, it´s hard to tell with the lcd screen, might be easier to tell on a crt. I think you should run it on MAME, and then you could tell if you´re missing something or not. I love the 1st oparation wolf, god, what a great game, whit that uzi and the feedback, but it flashes too much, I suffer from photosensitivity, so a game like that could knock me out. Anyhow, great video, and love your style, god bless you my friend.

    • @lukemorse1
      @lukemorse1  2 года назад +1

    • @douro20

      @@lukemorse1 It is modified F2 hardware. I believe they added extra memory for the digitized sprites. I don't know why they bothered making the F2 system when the F1 is much more capable.

    Not a huge fan of these games but they always seem to do well in the arcade. I'm sure some of these chips would have survived longer if they'd had a heat sink or something.
    Nice work Luke. How many more to go?

    • @lukemorse1
      @lukemorse1  2 года назад

      I can understand that for sure. You are right though, these boards will last much longer with fans or heatsinks. I usually put fans on the ones that use a lot of energy and produce a lot of heat. Some of the positioning of these chips can make it difficult though. Essentially we are at the end of the repairs for now. I need to go back and take a look at one more board but most are done. Thanks as always!

    A bitter lesson in how not to let a 3rd party company ruin a franchise. Because Operation Wolf 3 was developed by East Technology. The same folks behind Double Dragon 3. The main problem with Operation Wolf 3 is that it looks like a Lethal Enforcer rip-off.
