  • Like many others I have been interested in the work of Ray Mears from the moment he popped on our screens doing five minute vignettes on the 'Tracks' series.
I saw Ray give a speech at a previous Bushcraft Show with a front row seat and saw him meet Lofty Wiseman for the first time.
Fast forward the the 2024 show and I decided to book my wife and I on his talk. It was due to have been outside but the constant threat of rain meant we ended up indoors. He gave a 90 minute tour de force on calorific needs during a survival situation, what sources could give you that and then, after going through some recently foraged greens, he went through various camp staples and several methods maximising their use when combined with the available foraged foodstuffs.
Mixed in with a lot of anecdotes, stories and tips it made for a great audience whilst on a steep learning curve,

I really enjoyed it, as did my non-bushcrafty wife. Thought l'd chuck a vid up (YT channel and Ray footage = no brainer) but l decided to omit tbe chat as he said it wasn't stuff he'd really discussed before. I didn't want to abuse his intellectual property and all that. Thanks for swinging by.

Thanks for the upload! The insight into the presentation was really interesting, I understand why you cut it down, though I'd be interested in what else Mr Mears had to say - getting along to the Bushcraft Show unfortunately just isn't on the cards right now, shame to have missed it.

Pleasure. I did film a fair bit of it which would be a RUclips goldmine for me but he said that a lot of the stuff he was telling he hasn't really touched on before so l de idea to respect his intellectual property. The Bushcraft Show is going from strength to strength so isn't going anywhere and the Wilderness Gathering has relocated to Kent which has been around for a fair few years. Thanks for watching sir.
