Another great video! What helps me internalize what your sharing best is when you come up with issues, unexpectedly. You know, when you say "hmmm that's not supposed to do that". Then you work out the issue and we pick up more than was intended by you working it through. You excel at live not because you are so prepared its because of your knowledge and personality. Please don't change anything in your delivery. You also present the most interesting and relevant topics.
I'm only half way through and I want to comment already, SUBSCRIBED, nice, clear, points out the stuff he's doing and WHY, detailed explanations, nice pace. SO many tuts rattle through with no context. Good job Terry, I wanna get more into all things Adobe so I look forward to seeing what else ya got!
The 2 blank pages were added because printer spreads have to be in multiples of 4 and if your book is not in multiples of 4, Indesign will add the necessary blank pages to make it multiples of 4 since pages are printed 2 pages on each side of a single sheet of paper. Which is why your front and back covers weren’t side by side
Have an MA in Graphic Design and years back I used Quark, Pagemaker and Microsoft Publisher but never InDesign. This is a brilliant video (and everyone below seems to agree!) and really helps me a great deal to understant this software. Many thanks, Terry!
Thank You for this Tutorial Terry. This is the beginning of my journey with Adobe InDesign. I have been designing booklets using AI. It has truly helped me get started with InDesign the right way
Hi Terry. You, sir are an absolute saviour! I've been struggling to make sense of InDesign to produce my book and you've made it look so easy! :D Thanks
Thank you, this was an awesome refresher. Used InDesign a bunch back in college, but haven't touched it in years. The ToC paragraph styles shortcut was something I had totally forgotten.
That was a phenomenal lesson you taught! Thank you. I’ve had Adobe cc for almost a year and never cracked open In Design. It is now my favorite piece of software. Subscribed.
Hey T, I have never caught your streams, but man, what a great one! I will certainly look for more and also keep an eye out for streams in the future. Thank you so much for publishing this one (and I am certain many others I will find useful). Great content, great presentation, and you are a fun bloke to listen to. Cheers
Terry, great tutorial and refresher for me. I make handmade books of my photography and the way I am able to print them on my Epson 3880 printer is I make a "book" out of each signature, save them as individual PDFs and then print each one using the booklet option in the printer dialogue. Fold, sew the book block, make the covers, and attach them to the book block. Labor intensive but I seldom make an edition of more than 10.
I just want to say THANK YOU! i have recently embarked on self-publishing my children's book through IngramSpark and your tutorial have helped TREMENDOUSLY! I feel equipped to finish my journey thanks in part, to you! New Sub!
Thank you , Your way to explain and talk is very nice , i will use InDesign in my Architecture Project book in the university , Hope you was one of my teachers in my university , My greetings from Dubai to you.
UHHH... I wrote a 500 page manual in MS Word. Wish I would have learned InDesign three years ago! The "book" feature is definitely something that I needed. Well, guess my next two weeks will be dedicated to switching to InDesign. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Thanks for your huge work and for sharing your knowledge. Although I followed step-by-step, I was not able to make the pages imposition and I got again the same, not signatures to be sewn and a simple and huge booklet.
Good Evening Terry! Thank you so much. I learn so much from your educational videos. But, I would like to track your pointer better. Would you be willing to place a circle around your pointer or another way to track your selections?
I’m not sure about this so I’m just speculating but I think just contact the printer and ask. I’m getting my planner printed but I have heard people say pick your printer first and then design within their guidelines and specifications. But again I’m not sure.
thanks for your great tutorial - Q#1 Does InDesign allow you to position where the footnote section appears on a page or does it have to be on the bottom? Q#2 - If I want to combine multiple (e.g. 3) documents into one book (occupying different designated areas/sections on the page and continuing throughout the book) - where would Indesign put footnotes on each of the 3 documents - woudl they go into one footnote section, or 3 separate footnote sections?
For those of you with the windows version to get to the first step (select book in workspace) select "Window" from the top left menu, then "workspace" then book.
Hi Terry I have a question pertaining to the book cover aspect of this way of building a book and mainly the Spine. If after having built my book including front and back cover how do I include the spine? Fantastic tutorial that I learned a lot from!
Awesome tutorial as are all of your tutorials. I do have a question that's haunting me as I've found no answer to it: When I create a paragraph style there are times when, after using that particular paragraph style that my text color turns blue and its also underlined. I've searched online for an answer to this problem, however I've not found it. There are several solutions for text that's highlighted in blue but that's not the case with me. Can you shed any light on how to remedy this situation? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi Terry. This was a very enjoyable and informative tutorial. Thanks a lot. I have one question about books that are meant to be printed. The keel of the book will need to match the thickness of the book in a nice way. Is this done in Indesign and if so how do we manage the keel?
Hi Terry and followers, greetings from the UK, great video, thanks. I have been able to produce an e-book from my paperback book but I have a small problem with just one page. The inner title page has the book title and authors name underneath. It is centred on the page, however, after conversion to Epub the page opens with the text on the left margin. I have tried everything I know to get it to stay in the centre. Can you help?
Hey, Your videos are always TOP. But, I'm confused about something you've said. I've been about to print a booklet to adobe PDF since CS6. Why don't you have that option? I have the option in my drop-down list.
Really great thank you! 🙏 ....i have a question that may not be directly related so don't know if you can answer it. If i make a book, that will be self=published on Amazon. is there any copyright things i need to know? for example, can i interview people and put their response in the book? Say i was writing about sharks, but the information i need has already been written, can i use that information and reference it at the back or something? thanks
Hi Terry! First of all, a big thank you for these videos! They really helped me! Now, my question. Could you please tell me how to split my book in booklets of 5 A4 sheets (20 A5 pages)? Thanks in advance!
Thanks. very helpful tutorial. I was hoping that my book design that I was intending to print via a PDF and printer would also work as a E-book but it appears that the images might be garbled is that correct?
Awesome videos thanks for sharing. I have a question hope you understand. Im making a cookbook so the first page want to be image like cookies then on back of that page start the recipe. Is this the same as you just showed? Gonna make it stapled bound and spiral bound? Thanks so so much.
I've learned more here in 47 mins than in my graphic school in 2 years!!!!
I said that exact same thing about one of Terry White's videos when I was in school!
School is BS
Honestly. I'm taking graphic design 1 and I learned way more doing the daily creative challenge rather than my actual class
He's fantastic!

GREATEST Lesson in my 27 years of being alive. Thank you
After watching this tutorial I feel completely empowered to create my own books. I've always felt so intimidated by indesign.
I refer back to this video at the beginning of every semester of college when I have to work with Indesign. Thanks like a billion.

This has literally been the most helpful tutorial I have found. Thank you for uploading this!

Awesome Work. Was looking ALL over RUclips for something like this.

Hard same. This is game-changing information.
That was a phenomenal lesson you taught! Thank you. I’ve had Adobe cc for almost a year and never cracked open In Design. It is now my favorite piece of software. Subscribed.
Your efforts, your work, can be seen in us.
Mr White, Thank you for your help. I have used the skills you have shared to create some fun interactive documents to embed my student's art lessons.
This is a fabulous tutorial. I've been using InDesign since it morphed from PageMaker, but I'm self-taught. Terry, thank you for filling in the gaps.
You rock my friend.... I just watched your video, has been awesome help. I, of course subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for your complete and comprehensive training. Very good!

My wife recommended your videos ... Loved the one about making a movie poster. Looking forward to this video on setting up a book. #bookLayout
Thank you this helped me a lot. How do you know the page layout that a printer needs before you send. Do they tell you?
i need to know that too , please tell me if u have an answer for it :)
