Think Tank is a thing of magic. If you want to hear Graham's influence on the band, listen to Sweet Song, Out of Time; songs written about him. Blur was much more than four guys or three guys or one guitarist or one songwriter, and whether they have four members or no members, they'll always have made some of the most beautiful music this tiny island's ever heard.
Always tough to determine what a composer is writing about. This song is so sad, I believe it's about loss and illness. To fight off the illness we can "put a battery in your leg" so you can stick around longer. Damon's swallowing @ Beg & End is intentional, too. Makes his message more personal.
@spaceagedevice Coxon is a marvel with a guitar. His work isn't all solo's like some others because he plays more melodic to fit round the music. However, as for riffs, sounds and effects he is up there with the best of them. And he can solo like fuck when he wants to.
i listen to this song when things got bad with a girl i was inlove with 1 year passed and now she isnt with me shes with anothr adn i listen to this song to remember that time thinkin in a future im gonna break every bitt ugh well now i got a motto ...''look on the brightside'' i try smile and this song makes me happy now cos i remember suffering and shit and i got my motto out of this song somehow .-. oh well peace everyone always smile adn look on the bright side :)
What a great song and Coxon's guitar riff at 1:38 puts a shiver down my spine every time I hear this. Blur were awesome band and now in this day and age we have garbage like coldplay. atch the Blur documentary called Nowhere Left to Run.
@tuxedosponge 'country sad ballad man', 'strange news from another star', 'you're so great', 'mor', 'death of the party', 'beetlebum'... 'song 2' ofc... graham did great job there
Listen closely to the detail. This song = a farewell. Very sad song. Damon has been quoting, saying this is the only song he ever wrote specifically about the band.
i miss you blur quiero llorar :( buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu pero este NO ES BATTERY IN YOUR LEG NO SE CUAL SEA PERO ME ENCANTA!!!! BLUR LIFE FOREVER IN MY HEART
This brings back memories from a couple of years ago... Its so beautiful but I shouldn't listen to it or I'll just fall into chronic depression again lol
The only real reason I'd be pressed to believe it was that it may coincide with a resurgence of old bands in today's era, and alongside the fact that they are doing ceremonies for the Olympics and could release it near then or just after with a huge popularity reboot.
More bad news: Damon Albarn: "I had dinner with the guys recently and it was laugh but there's no way they want to work with me again -- they all hate me," he said. "A reunion is not going to happen."He also said the rest of the group weren't as committed as him, saying: "Alex(James, bassist) is writing books and making cheese and Dave (Rowntree, drummer) is moving into politics. I've always said if you want to be a musician you have to dedicate yourself to it and do it every day."
Bad news: Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has explained why the much-feted Blur reunion never occurred. However Coxon explained that when the band met up for a meal before the recording date, they didn't actually discuss recording, so never followed it up."We met for a catch-up and it was great, but there was no real talk of recording". NME 30/01/2008
SO is there two songs called Battery in Your Leg? I have a song from Think Tank called the same but it's a nitty gritty song about all kinds of other shit then this mellow song.
nah it's not sure yet. Damon said No, Graham says maybe yes, Alex..ah you can't trust him :D They just change their minds every week. We have to wait...
I really like Kid A, it's an amazingly immersive album; but I felt that Radiohead had slightly different influences. Gorillaz 1st album was a dub reggae/ hip hop hybrid that was being recorded before Kid A was out as was Damon's soundtracks for OD Criminal in early 2000. 13 also had heavy influences of dub, krautrock & electronica. On the Blur album in '97 Theme From Retro, Death of a Party and Essex Dogs also. Both bands have always been independent of each other but Blur got there first IMO.
Think Tank was not a Blur album. They got away with Out of Time, but thats it. This one song however at the end of the album highlighted just how important Grahams input is to the band, and its vast. TBH I think this was all Damons fault, for deciding to go ahead with a new album at a time that was inconvenient for Graham. Remember at this point it was still at a time when both Damon and Graham really needed to continue exploring their own musical directions. Life is full of mistakes so whatever
I find the suggestion of Blur being inspired by Radiohead completely outrageous. Damon and Graham have always gone on their personal journey of creativity & inspiration from the most obscure sources. I respect Radiohead but Blur have always been braver musically & I'm afraid Thom Yorke can't hold a candle to Damon's melodies and Graham's harmonies and creativity, especially in a ballad like this. Not wanting to make sweeping generalisations but I find Radiohead fans quite musically small minded.
Okay, I'm the biggest Blur fan in the world, but what you said just there was small-minded. Blur are brave musically, but have you even heard Kid A? Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead had a period of six months in his life when he'd listen to nothing but dub reggae, and he's scored two classical film soundtracks. As for Thom Yorke's melodies, they're totally different. It'd be like comparing the guitar techniques of Jimi Hendrix with George Harrison. You are making sweeping generalisations.
That O'Brien guy from Radiohead is a big fan of Coxon, but this album is definitely an attempt to capitalize on the success of "Kid A". Probably why I don't like it anywhere near as much as Blur's other stuff. That and because there's no Coxon guitar work, outside of this track.
Think Tank is a thing of magic. If you want to hear Graham's influence on the band, listen to Sweet Song, Out of Time; songs written about him. Blur was much more than four guys or three guys or one guitarist or one songwriter, and whether they have four members or no members, they'll always have made some of the most beautiful music this tiny island's ever heard.
blur > all
This is possibly the saddest song I've ever heard.
Just Damons voice. He sounds like he's gonna cry.
Just discovered this song an amazing track
This song will never die...soundtrack of my heart
Perfect song! This has a bit of everything. The britpop Blur, shoegazing, gorillaz, altrock... the list goes on and on. Damon is a genious!
I like the echoing sound... it adds so much to the song.
Sounds like something beautiful coming to an end and wishing All the best for an unknown future for someone hurting !
Always tough to determine what a composer is writing about. This song is so sad, I believe it's about loss and illness. To fight off the illness we can "put a battery in your leg" so you can stick around longer.
Damon's swallowing @ Beg & End is intentional, too. Makes his message more personal.
Beautiful-Bitter Sweet.
Awesome song! I think my favorite from the album. Graham really does add a lot.
this is the last graham's song with blur...
please come back in 2009
that guitar part is genius!
think tank is my favorite album of blur's. im obsessed with it
I can't help but cry.
Haven't listened to "Think Tank" in years. Wow, holds up very well! Damon reveals his soul on "Battery in Your Leg" and "Out of Time".
@spaceagedevice Coxon is a marvel with a guitar. His work isn't all solo's like some others because he plays more melodic to fit round the music. However, as for riffs, sounds and effects he is up there with the best of them. And he can solo like fuck when he wants to.
A very deep intense song with a fantastic guitar sound. I luv Blur's music the more I get older..
"blur" and "think tank" are the 2 best album ever of blur
So deep...that it can touch the soul.
That makes Blur a member of the "Good Side".
The important side.
This song is a monster of music
this is one of the best by blur without a doubt
i listen to this song when things got bad with a girl i was inlove with 1 year passed and now she isnt with me shes with anothr adn i listen to this song to remember that time thinkin in a future im gonna break every bitt ugh well now i got a motto ...''look on the brightside'' i try smile and this song makes me happy now cos i remember suffering and shit and i got my motto out of this song somehow .-. oh well peace everyone always smile adn look on the bright side :)
A great song to run to as well 'Battery in your leg' great pace and crescendo !
What a great song and Coxon's guitar riff at 1:38 puts a shiver down my spine every time I hear this. Blur were awesome band and now in this day and age we have garbage like coldplay. atch the Blur documentary called Nowhere Left to Run.
I like this song alot .
the greatest thing of Blur, definitely!
indeed , sounds pretty clean and soft .
it's so beautiful, that it hurts
just shows how you can sublimate sorrow into song
@tuxedosponge
'country sad ballad man', 'strange news from another star', 'you're so great', 'mor', 'death of the party', 'beetlebum'... 'song 2' ofc...
graham did great job there
I find that song quite hard to listen to sometimes. Especially now because all the reunion shows are over. It was fun while it lasted x
A great song.
Agreed. He has a minimalist approach to guitar riffs that's second to none. Beetlebum may be the best example.
I'm a great fan of Blur but you can't say anything bad about Kid A, it's one of the best album I've ever listen to
@MangoStarrx3 Oh god. Its even sadder once you've seen "No distance left to run" ... dear god i'm dying over here.
great song!
Listen closely to the detail. This song = a farewell. Very sad song.
Damon has been quoting, saying this is the only song he ever wrote specifically about the band.
You should listen to Stewart Copeland-he does some REALLY awesome drumming.
Radiohead and The Smiths are my favourite bands. But this is by far the saddest song on my ipod.
Best track on think tank.
wtf, latest comment is from 5 years ago, is nobody listetning to blur right now?
ikr
Damon was quoted as saying this was the only song he ever wrote about the band.
So I guess this is a tribute to Graham Coxon's departure, if u will.
So sad, I hope Coxon can get his life back together.
i miss you blur
quiero llorar
:(
buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
pero este NO ES BATTERY IN YOUR LEG
NO SE CUAL SEA PERO ME ENCANTA!!!!
BLUR LIFE FOREVER
IN MY HEART
awesome drumming
OMG, I thought this was a Gorillaz song! And does this album kinda remind you of Demon Days?
You can be with me if you wana be you can be with meeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Albarn piss's over the galleghers n music like this proves it!!!!
Watched Blur perform this at the Manchester Apollo several years back and I have three words to sum it up... better than sex
their self-titled record is phenomenal
Blur is doing a new album this year :D best band from the britpop era.
13 doesn't get the appreciation it should
Its official BLUR ARE BACK july 3 hyde park london (there is justice in this world) WHOOOO HOOOOOO
i like this
one of blurs best...and probally the best off think tank
This brings back memories from a couple of years ago... Its so beautiful but I shouldn't listen to it or I'll just fall into chronic depression again lol
Nevermind I figured it out. This is the hidden track from Battery In Your Leg, called My White Noise.
The only real reason I'd be pressed to believe it was that it may coincide with a resurgence of old bands in today's era, and alongside the fact that they are doing ceremonies for the Olympics and could release it near then or just after with a huge popularity reboot.
about what you feel when you listen to it .
I consider this as the Jugband blues of Blur
@84loneliness How can this be the best song ever when there's The Universal?
More bad news: Damon Albarn: "I had dinner with the guys recently and it was laugh but there's no way they want to work with me again -- they all hate me," he said. "A reunion is not going to happen."He also said the rest of the group weren't as committed as him, saying: "Alex(James, bassist) is writing books and making cheese and Dave (Rowntree, drummer) is moving into politics. This is like a first part of "Under the Westway".
@otrebobz144 The fact that they're both on youtube.
BLUR 4 letters 4 men 4 fucking ever !
I like Blur & Radiohead. There. Can we all just enjoy this song?
This song reminds me of The Flaming Lips
My opinion: 13 > Think Thank/ Blur > Parklife > Modern Life Is Rubbish > Leisure/ The Great Escape
Full of drama and atmosphere this one......and reminiscent of The Cure in a strange way
think tank is fucking brilliant
SO is there two songs called Battery in Your Leg? I have a song from Think Tank called the same but it's a nitty gritty song about all kinds of other shit then this mellow song.
Well this was with Graham
I wonder what went through their minds as they played this.
so sad
nah it's not sure yet. Damon said No, Graham says maybe yes, Alex..ah you can't trust him :D
They just change their minds every week. We have to wait...
and people say think tank wasn't a good album.
@ScaryMonstahh Probably Graham Leaving :c
Yes actually I realised it...an hour ago.
I have tickets :)

What was the fallout btw Damon & Graham? Was it jealousy? Or more to it than that?
Blur>>>Oasis
Fuck Oasis. This dude crushes
well, whatever you want to call it, its a great song
@Szymek56 one left.
there's 3 men.
Yeah, Dave Rowntree was always underrated.
My opinion: Parklife > Modern Life is Rubbish/Think Thank > Blur/13 > Leisure/The Great Escape!
Try Pioneer HDJ 1000. I recommend.
:D
0:30-Faith + 1!!!(those who watched South Park know what I mean)
;~; fuckin a. this song is the saddest thing i've ever heard in my entire life.
@ezeqyell I know right
The other way round I think. This album is pretty much the polar opposite twin of Parklife.
Think Tank was not a Blur album. They got away with Out of Time, but thats it. This one song however at the end of the album highlighted just how important Grahams input is to the band, and its vast. @harrytheblurfan Kid A is far more experimental than 13!
Is "Battery In Your Leg" a british expression? I never heard it being used.
I think Think Tank is Blurs best album.
and "13"

You do know that the guitar is Coxon in this song?
