Simple, as long as the story and art is good I'm there, regardless of genre or targeted demographic.
Same, except I randomly hate some good ones like Hunter x Hunter and FLCL.
@@amuroray9115 I think FLCL is possibly the greatest anime I’ve ever seen, but it was just way too weird for me. I found the humor and animation style to be really annoying and cringe. If someone thought is was charming, then I could totally why they’d love it. The story is brilliant and the they absolutely nailed their own style whether you like it or not.
The problem is that a lot of stories (that most people know of) that target kids don't have a good or "deep" story because they don't need to have one because kids wouldn't even understand the deepness of the stories, meanwhile shows that target older audience usually have "deep" stories because if they don't a lot of people just aren't gonna watch them. Unlike what I have said until now, anime and manga have named those demographics shounen and seinen but the thing is shounen is not only for kids but also teens and sometime even young adults, you could say that like you have said "as long as the story and art is good I'm there, regardless of genre or targeted demographic" but the demographic is not as simple as "for kids" or "for adults" so when you enjoy a manga that is called shounen it could be also targeting adults at the same time but if the story only targets kids then most of the time they will have bad stories.
@@amuroray9115 that's what I meant. Should have wrote simple instead of bad but it is somewhat correlated.
Comics offer that in abundance.

As a guy that read most of the mangas in Japanese because I'm learning Japanese. The different between shōnen and seinen or shojo and josei is the amount and level of Kanji. In every Shōnen and Shojo manga there is something called furigan which are characters that help younger people read the Kanji because it's targeted toward younger people. And as for Seinen and Josei manga there aren't any furigana because the demographic is young Adult from the age 18-45 and the people in that age range should be able to reconised and read around 1000-2000 Kanji.

On the topic of the demographic I think a very good example (even though it is technically not an anime) is Avatar the last airbender. I'm never rating a series I've dropped. I feel like that's unreasonable cause I haven't fully experienced the whole story
Man do I agree with you there
What about long series? I think if you’ve read 700 chapters of One Piece, it’s fair to rate it.
@@x___x7770 I am a week to week reader for 5 years now. So I cant speak on it. But as it looks like 700 chapters is only gonna be half or bit over half of the series.
But even w a really long running show I think I'd rather not rate it. E.g. if I'd dropped ippo around 800 ch. there is still 500 left which is huge number (avarage long running shonen lenght)
Ok but does that mean you wouldn't rate Attack on Titan yet? There's still a chapter left so you haven't experienced the full story.
@@x___x7770 I think one piece now is over all better, a much better package, than it was 4-5 years ago when it was in 700 chapters. So yea I mean if you want to rate it do it. But if you are giving your rating to someone, at least say you are this far in and so far its "this rating". I saw someone trying to rate one piece 40 episodes in. And needless to say, that's like reading the first 5 sentences of a book and rating it. It's like reading "in a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" and say alright that was OK at best. You can say that a series shouldn't have to take this long to "get good" but I guess that's just one "flaw" one piece has, even tho I think early one piece is still good. It's just nothing to go off when it comes to later one piece. 20 years ago we were okay with "greatness from small beginnings" types of stories but the modern audience needs greatness from episode 1-4 or the series gets canceled. Edit sorry I accidentally wrote alot 🤔

What I like about the masked man is, he reads/watches so many different types of manga and anime...then he appreciates the things these shows/stories have done better, whether he liked those or not.
So, if you're trying to get into anime/manga for the first time, try with the one that grabs your interest. But then try to explore different genres. By doing this, you will gradually learn what makes a show good/bad and learn to appreciate the works that you've seen. Don't compare one story with another and don't make judgements without giving proper explainations. You can have different opinions. That's normal. But don't be disrespectful. These are the things that I do ; And I think you should also do the same😊
0:56
Idk why but I really like that line.
I really don't care that much of what other people like in a series. If you like a series or hate one, that's personally what you like or feel about it. Not really my place to say otherwise, same way of what you think of it's quality or quantity. Just like what you like and if you have a reason for not liking a series you don't really have to explain yourself. Just enjoy.

"Because I want/don't like to." Is my only reason to watch/read something. Sometimes popularìty of a series gets my curiosity other times the more I see the series everywhere the less I want to read/watch that series.

What I learned through watching anime and reading manga is that I am a HUGE mystery buff. A story that can make me ask tons and tons of questions and I get to feel rewarded for figuring things out myself or get mindblown by some big twist is one of the most satisfying things I have encountered
For this reason Mawaru Penguindrum for example is one of my favorite anime, and Pandora hearts is my absolute favorite manga, because these have managed to do this the best so far from what I’ve read

Easily one of the best videos you made. When it comes to both Shonen and Seinen I have a pretty specific thoughts of what I like about them when reading them but I don't mind if I find a theme of Seinen in a Shonen story or vice versa,it makes it even more awesome to me.But that doesn't mean I will like every anime and manga because it has the same themes as one I like. For example,I don't like Chainsaw Man,7 Deadly Sins,Tokyo Ghoul and more. They just didn't click to me and didn't make me feel like the rest when reading them and I won't apologize for it.Now,that doesn't mean one can't them(as you mentioned),but as long as you are nice to me and don't hate on me for disliking them, then,I will respect your choice as well.I find it ridiculous and pathetic for being salty over non existing things because at the end of the day, they are just drawings on paper. You all have a good day.

Though my favorites are still series that revolve around fantasy filled combat with intense over the top action, I'm glad I've given martial arts anime a try. Watching some of those started my journey to Your Lie In April, something completely different from the rest of my favorites but absolutely a part of my top 10.
The impact the fights in those series have is different since it's more relatable. And since I enjoyed the competitive drive of the characters in those shows and already loved Haikyu OST for ages anyway I ended up watching Haikyu. Which still had a lot of action, even if it didn't literally have violence, the competitions still felt like fights because of how important winning is to every team.
A little later down the line I've opened up to more competitive series that don't revolve around combat, which lead to shows about musicians competing, and finaly led to Your Lie In April. The ending of that show broke me, and reminded me to be more gratefull for being alive.
To me shonen and seinen are just words, and they mean nothing to me... I just open an anime and continue to watch if I enjoy or just drop it if I don't like it...

I don't think I've ever seen someone who likes the One Piece anime over the manga, your patience is stronger than my will to live lmao.
As long as the story is engaging and entertaining. Also the characters have to be likable or interesting. If the series has deep themes and tackles them well, than that is a plus from me.
For me, even though the story didnt really have a strong cast in the beginning, there is must be a mystery or something that attract me to read more.
I'm currently at that point with manga, where, because I just started reading it last year, I'm willing to read almost anything. If it looks interesting, then I will add it to my list of manga that I want to read.
At home, I have series ranging from mainstream shonen like My Hero academia, Made in Abyss, Kaguya Sama, That Time I got reincarnated as a Slime, Sweetness and Lightening, Spy x Family, Persona 5 (Yes there is a manga for it, it's on amazon), One Punch Man.
There are probably more, but I can't really remember off the top of my head.

The protagonist of Berserk is Puck, you uncultured swines!
Ever since anime has become a trend or has been recognized more, shonen anime has received too much unnecessary backlash just cause "it's mainstream". A lot of people (let's call them weeaboomers) always think "oh all shonen is the same" when really it's not. Weeboomers treat enjoying mid anime as a fricking crime and never give it a chance. Shonen anime has so much to offer almost just as much as seinen anime. Remember that not everything has to be a masterpiece to be appreciated.
I had to climb towers to capture that W bro

well, the main reason i avoid indulging in mainstream shonen discussions and explicitly stating that i like anime is cuz of the recent popularity and widespread stereotypes of "weebs". They'd basically call you tasteless for liking something mainstream and call you weird for liking something underrated. people are more or less never gon' agree with you so it's better to keep opinions to yourself more or less. and what pisses me off a lot about the shonen genre is that kids that first pick up anime get into naruto or dragon ball or bleach at rare occasions and then they pose as if they're at the pinnacle of anime viewing with the weird-ass handsigns and unironic naruto run and shit.
eh, basically, enjoy the story and ignore opinion is what i'd say
