Actually, the tallest building in Estonia (that you can enter) is the TV tower. It's antenna reaches well over 300 meters, but even just the viewing deck is 170 meters high. While it may have been a little more boring to build, I think it would have been the right choice. But I can't be too mad because you complimented Tallinn 😊
I really love the city of Tallinn, and I actually even visited the TV tower, but I didn't include it for the simple reason that it is a "tower" rather than a "building". For these videos I only considered buildings, which means that most of their height has to consist of usable floors. I hope this clears it up a bit😊
@@BaroBuilder Then it should have been St. Olaf's church (Oleviste kirik.) It sits at 407 feet tall. (124 meters) It actually has a fascinating history, and I highly recommend looking it up. (Source: Wikipedia)
Actually, Norway's tallest building is a 120m factory for making PEX-cables. If that wasn't interesting enough, the same factory is building a new, 150m tower for the exact same purpose. They are both just big concrete boxes though.
Oh wow! I just looked this up. That is one ugly ass tower! But quite interesting in its function. I hope you can forgive my sloppiness on that one;) But with the Radisson instead, I'm honestly quite happy with this mistake haha
As a Czech, i was a bit confused by the tallest building for my country, but you got it right. What I actually found interesting however was the fact that if you look up the tallest buildings here you get no churches in the top 10 at least. But if you look up tallest churches and cross-reference the two. Number 4 should be a church in Pilsen and number 5 a church in Olomouc
Churches and cathedrals don't normally count in the measurements because the spire part which is the tall part doesn't count since it's not habitable... For example Capital dock tower in Dublin is the actual tallest building in Ireland at 80m tall (obel tower is in Belfast UK) but the tallest structure in Ireland is Mullaghanish transmitter in Cork
3:29 Great job pronouncing "Ljubljana". There is a building in Slovenia that's much taller than the crystal palace - the chimney of the Trbovlje coal power plant at 360 meters tall. It would have been a very boring build though
Yeahh I saw that one, but it's not generally considered a building as pretty much none of it's height is usable floor space. So in that respect the Crystal Palace takes the win😊
I'm actually really glad that you appreciated the Brutalist, Soviet architecure of the Romanska tower. Awesome video, as an aspiring Architect I loved all the descriptions and opinions you shared about those buildings (Even thuogh I personally disagree with the _Commie blocks being uninviting_ part. I live in one and I probably wouldn't exchange it for a mansion). Also, I love how you just randomly went ALL in with the Vatican's one, you *really* did the masterpiece that is St.Peter's Basilica a ton of justice.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy those little details I spend way too much time on hahaha. Especially the Romanska Tower. I've seen other builders completely butcher its design before, just building it as a basic, round skyscraper. So I really wanted to make sure to capture its brutalist essence. Sorry for being so negative about those apartment blocks by the way! I guess it's just not something I'm used to.
@@BaroBuilder It's totally fine, I can understand why a lot of people could dislike the blocks as they do look quite samey. And yeah once again, the Romanska Tower and St Peter's Basilica builds are amazing, and the others aren't slacking either, you're undoubtedly a very talented builder and I'm glad I discovered your channel.
Part 2 will be out hopefully next week or the week after. It's so much work to get all those towers as perfect as I want them. I did already finish the one from Serbia though! It's a lot taller than anything in part one ;)
Damn I just looked it up. That's one seriously tall skyscraper. It would have actually ranked 6th on this list! I see it won't be finished till 2024, but it actually structurally surpassed the Turning Torso in 2022. So I could definitely have included it. Thanks for pointing that one out!!
Great video, there are some mistakes though, The tallest building in liechtenstein is actually quite a lot taller its the Church of St. Lawrence in Schaan standing at 81 meters tall. The tallest building in Ireland is the St. Colman's Cathedral (91m) and the tallest building in Estonia is the St. Olaf's Church at 124 meters. The tallest building in Norway is the Nexans Halden Extrusion Tower 2 which is ugly asf but its 153m tall and the tallest building in Kosovo is the Pristina city center but i dont think it was completed at the time of making this video so it would be the arting highrise being 1m taller than the rilindja building
Thanks man! Yeah this was my first video in this series, and I have since become a lot more thorough in my research to try and avoid these types of mistakes. I hope you enjoyed the video anyway😊
Fun fact: You said that at 39 metres most churches already have been surpassed. However, until very recently Hungary's tallest building was the Basilica of St. Adalbert in Esztergom at 99 metres, until the MOL tower was built.
You are absolutely correct! And you will find those taller buildings in part two of this video! These are only numbers 50 till 26😊 Feel free to check out part two on my channel.
