EP 21: Engine Pull for Adjustments / 1967 VW Type 3 Squareback

- I went out of town for a couple of weeks so I stashed the Squareback in my garage. Before I left, the engine seemed to run a little louder than usual and seemed unbalanced. By the time I came back, the battery had completely drained and engine took some time to fire up. Eventually got it to start, but it ran very weird. I decided to upgrade my electrical components and completely re-tune the engine. I figured it would be best to do that with the engine out of the bay and on an engine stand.

Not sure what all starting issues you’ve had, but a VERY simple way to resolve old ignition and old wiring issues is to wire in a bypass or “hard start” relay. Look forward to seeing all the fun you’re about to have.
That's a good idea because this is so often an issue and when it's not, it will be one in the future + relays are cheap. It's a bummer to see that this engine keeps giving him grief, even after the full rebuild. Glad he's not giving up! Best of luck!
@@pascalz9992 for sure. Seems like he is in it to win it!
@@vdubjunkie hey hey! The Square actually originally had a hard start relay when I got it that the previous owner did a hack job in wiring. When I did wiring a couple of years ago, I disconnected it with the intention of replacing in the future, but never got around to it. When I get started to replace the whole engine harness, I do plan on putting one in, so stick around to see that eventually.
@@pascalz9992 yeah, it's unfortunate... but in my defense, this was my first engine build with instructions I found in manuals and online forums. something will go wrong, but I'm all in on learning how to make sure everything is in tip top shape. Plus, it's become a habit that I work on this way more than I actually drive it haha.
@@jeremydoc very cool. Glad to see you seeing it through!
