Haha it really did 😅 I must admit, I’m disappointed they didn’t work a bit more on the FMVs to spruce them up, they look out of place with the rest of the game 😕
@@suzannetheraider Yah them just upscaling them instead of making them from scratch was a strange choice the cutscenes already got upscaled by fans this is a major remastering effort done by quite a large company they should've redone the cutscenes with the new models and made the originals optional like how the tank controls and original graphics are optional especially since from what I've seen the in game cutscenes were reanimated to add actual mouth movement to the characters talking instead of them just bobbing their heads around.
It feels like there's magic floating along the level. I played it constantly swapping the graphics to apreciate the detail Aspyr put on top and exploring every single corner of of this very simple level felt just breathtaking. Even the fight against the two wolves with the "Chase" theme playing really felt like and epic action packed moment for me. I just can't wait to conquer every single level ahead while getting blasted with such charming design

I just subscribed to youtrchannel based on the first two Tomb Raider Remastered videos. It's really nice seeing someone who knows the orignal games so well reacting to the graphical overhaul and actually using the tank controls too! I hope you plan on playing all three games, I'll be watching!

I love how excited you are about Tomb Raider, Suzanne. You radiate so much positive energy when you play. You really come across as very empathetic to me. Beautiful voice. I understand your English quite well so far, although I generally have weaknesses with "foreign languages" outside of German. Your emotional reactions are so refreshing and authentic.
The graphics, even in Croft Manor, are so stunning. The snow and green vegetation look really fantastic. Lara as a character model, the wolves and the bear are also well done. When I started the caves, I kept switching back and forth to compare the graphics. And the sounds are also much better on the PC version. The music tracks are so beautifully epic
I'm currently playing part 1 again in the new New Game+ mode. This has now become a much more challenging hardcore mode. Without medipacks, significantly stronger enemies, memory crystals, etc. I already have all the weapons from the start, but with limited ammo. Thanks to the shotgun, the wolves are doing quite well. The bear takes a very long time to fall.

If you haven't figured it out yet, photo mode is accessed by pushing both the analog sticks in. There's some cool features in it!

I think the makers of this Remaster said that the feel of "We wanted the look of the Remasters to be like how it felt playing these games back when they came out." So that's exactly what they were aiming for.
I'm actually playing this and Tomb Raider Anniversary alongside each other. I only ever manged to complete the Caves in the original when I was a kid, so its cool being able to experience the original game in this way. I actually really appreciate the "square" based level design, it was a pretty smart solution to incorporating precise 3-d movement.
They really achieved that and did such an excellent job with this remaster 😍 Ah I hope you enjoy playing this game in its entirety for the first time ☺️ It truly is an amazing game 😃
@@suzannetheraiderthe director of the remaster essentially wanted this to look like a proper set up to playing TR AOD with that's enhanced graphics and design. But those wanting to play it, make sure you have played the ORIGINAL 6 games first
New FMVs would have been nice if they had simply stuck with the style of the ingame models, especially if we could switch between the two while playing like the game itself. That would've been cool. I'm also having to unlearn using the analog stick. I'm trying to compromise when I'm running in big open areas I can use it and when I need the control I go to the dpad. Tank controls are the only way to play imo. It just works, the games were designed really well and it elevates any camera problems because you can be confident (with the dpad anyway) that you go where you want if you set up your jumps properly beforehand.
I love all the little touches they did to the levels. I see a lot don't like the additional skylights, but eh I like it and the original did have some of them.
Yes I would have loved if they used the new character models in the FMVs 😭💔 it’s so difficult to remember to leave the analogue stick alone 😅 I totally agree! The game was built for tank controls and I feel like they just work better. But I’m sure the modern ones are good too once you get the hang of them. I just don’t have the patience to learn 😅 I want to play the game and see everything asap 😍 I love all the additions too and I love the skylights and the lighting beams coming in 😍it’s gorgeous and also explains why these places aren’t pitch black 😂
Hey fellow Tomb Raider fans question, which console is better for the Tomb Raider Remaster PS4 or PS5. I'm currently saving up to purchase one of the consoles so I can get the Tomb Raider remaster.
I’ve only played it on Steam on PC, so hopefully another fan will comment to advise you ☺️
You may already know this because I don't know how much you've played by now, but unfortunately it's currently impossible to get the achievement "Tomb Cleaner", the one for getting all pickups in the game. The reason why is because in the level "Atlantis", there's a pickup of uzi clips that is impossible to get because it's hidden inside a wall. But unfortunately the game still counts it as one of the pickups. So when you finish the game you'll be down one pickup. I really hope Aspyr fixes this in an update soon.

For the first time it occurs to me to wonder how Natla knows where Larson is standing relative to the laptop, so she can turn to 'face' him when she tells him to "Seal it" in the cutscene.

Having played just a few levels I can say with confidence that two things have not changed… 1. This game still raises my anxiety and scares the sh** out of me… 2. The level skip and weapons cheats still work! 😁 … don’t judge me…

Hi Suzanne, love the Tomb Raider content. This new version looks great! I have fond memories of the original on the PlayStation. Remember going out in the snow to buy a copy. Loved the fact that I could pop the disc into the CD player and listen to the music and effects!

No problem! 😉 It doesn't work on every game as they changed the audio format in later discs. I used to love listening to the Wipeout 2097 and Ridge Racer soundtracks on the stereo back then! Normally, Track 1 is a horrible screechy data noise, so make sure you turn down your volume before you skip to the next track to save getting deafened...haha
There is a code to unlock all the weapons. Did they incorporate it into the remaster?
I have heard from others that all the codes still work ☺️

For me it's like my 90's brain back in the day sorta saw these games exactly like this. Cuz like every game looked simple so you sorta "filled in the gaps". I'm probably explaining this really poorly but like, yeah, I get what you mean :D.
I totally get what you mean! Tomb Raider was sensational when it was first released! We’d never seen graphics this good, so absolutely this is what the game looked like in our heads 😍 This remaster just fits so well, it’s beautiful 🥰

This is how we all felt the game looked like and it was ground breaking graphics then. I always preferred the Saturn version for its bloom and saturation levels which made the environments look much more realistic compared to the totally washed out look that the PS1 version had, but... this is... it gives the tombs that realistic look the Saturn version aimed for, combined with modern graphics, the animated water and more.
I remember when this first came out we’d never seen anything like it! It was an absolute sensation and I couldn’t believe how real it looked! It’s amazing to see how far everything has come! ☺️ I never had the Saturn version but I know exactly what you mean about the “washed out” look on PlayStation! This remaster is so beautifully done. Everything is stunning while remaining true to the original 🥰
I think too Core Design at the time wanted THIS graphic result but unfortunatly PS1 engine was not so powerfull 🙄hearing those outstanding soundtracks with the new graphic is something magic, it look almost like a playable movie, it's just so perfect, the incredible lights effect, the new atmosphere, they made a real good job GG
I totally agree, what makes this remaster so amazing is that I feel like if Core had the ability at the time, they would have made it look like this. It feels very true to the original 😍 The music with these visuals is almost a spiritual experience 😅
It is dark in a lot of places with the remaster vs the original...............Need an in game brightness adjustment...

Hi, I use to say to my brother one day we will have game graphics like the FMV graphics. And look where we are now. Games that are looking nearly real and there is no difference to the FMV sequence. Wow.
I think I know what you mean - you basically see it as you always have seen this game - the "soul" of the game is still one and the same, so you are impressed by this new graphics but not surprised, which is the best effect a remaster could have in my opinion. I am getting soon to replay the game and I'll try to go for all the achievements (I really love to torture myself, don't I):D:D

5:26 You got Lara to climb up that edge, how come I can't do it??
It’s a sneaky one. You have to stand against the wall and then press forward and action for her to grab it. If you press jump and action she don’t for some reason 🤔

6:54 games would have been so much easier back in the day if we could decipher what the 60 pixels we were given were supposed to be 😂
I really love all the little details that are more than just textures. Really goes a long way to improve the sights. I couldn't help but notice how some additions also seemed to be taking cues from Anniversary, particularly some of the holes in the roofs, which makes a lot of sense. One thing I wish they added is a small piece of level-end music since TR2 and TR3 has them, and hearing those always made me feel so accomplished and that it was time to take a nice rest. I know there is at least one unused soundtrack from TR1 that could have been used for that purpose, but oh well.

It’s just gorgeous! You can tell the love and thought that was put into this 😍 Oh yes you’re right! The holes in the roof are very Anniversary, I thought they were excellent touches. It really makes you feel like you’re in a tomb to see that small bit of distant daylight streaming in 😍 I totally agree! Level end music for the first one would be great, the silence is a bit anti climactic 😂 Hope you are enjoying playing the remasters 😍❤️
Oh my God... THIS REMASTERED TR 1 IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!! I am absolutely stunned by every single detail and graphics 🤩😍 The snow flakes!!! The vegetation and light rays in the dark areas of the caves are excellent. 8:50 look at that!!! I'm breathless.

One thing that will always stay with me from these games is the atmosphere and sound design. So many games these days just dont have very memorable atmospheres but i will never forget the sounds from these caves. They are so well done and so eerie. Amazing game.
You are so right @JungleHunter13 ... back in the day I played on a PC with EAX 360 sound effects from 6.1 speakers ... the audio was wow ... I don't know if that is retained.
I totally agree! As soon as I hear music or sounds from Tomb Raider I am transported to that time and place. Tomb Raider has some of the best atmosphere I have ever seen and heard in a game 😍

@suzannetheraider -Thanks! Last played these on Saturn and Playstation. Honestly, I'm enjoying this more than many newer AAA handholding games. If they patch-out her breathing ponytail will be perfect.

Totally with you on the graphics - basically, this is how I imagine the game in my head. Playing the original always came with a bit of an "oh, right, it looked like this..." feeling. Although I still have a fondness for the '90s pixelated look.
Yes this is for sure how Core wanted the game to look! If they had had this technology at the time, I can tell this is what everything would have looked like and that’s what makes the remaster so amazing 😍 But ye the pixilated version will always be so nostalgic 🥰

I couldnt wait for your reaction to this! They did such a great job modernizing it ! I love that the joysticks dont work because PS1 didnt have it on their controllers at the time- keeping it nostalgic ! cant wait to see more of this game and the cutscenes as well !

I'm actually trying to play at the same pace as you upload a new walk trough video 🤣 . Her braids weird look is not a glitch, its that Aspyr used 2d textures to simulate the braids moving, that's why you see her braids like if they were pulsating or breathing with Lara.
I didn't want to make this comment long, but if you are on PC, you can right click the exe file of Tomb123.exe or whatever it's called on your version of the game, and go to "Properties>Compatibility> Set Compatibility mode to Windows 8, then click on "high DPI settings", then go to "High DPI Scaling Override" and set it to System (Enhanced). Those settings made the game look better in terms of Framerate and loading times shorter. Hope this helps to anyone that reads as well.

@@suzannetheraider I forgot to mention that the method I explained with the ese file for Tomb Raider worked for me personally, but it might not work for everyone as they might have different versions of the game or hardware, just try it out and maybe it will work awesomely, maybe it wont 👀.
The braids definitely glitch out, they go too thin here or there it's not a big deal but hopefully they can polish it a bit.

The graphics are fantastic and Aspyr have done a great job in integrating motions into the environment, such as falling snowflakes and rustling ivy.

Suzanne, when I was younger and I played Tomb Raider and whenever there was a part where the bear was. I would do my best to get on the ledge or something and take it out from a safe distance of a ledge before going down there. Sometimes standing on a ledge when you know where certain animals are located is your best friend when you want to get a easy kill.

It wasn't malicious. They own the copyright for the Red Cross logo. Further to that, it also has Geneva Convention implications because the logo is a nationally recognized symbol. To protect it, they asked video games not to use it and, despite the overreaction that's become synonymous with gaming media, game writers just swapped over to comething else.

Your lucky getting a game remaster that you liked from the original. I like doom classic games and doom n64 version and the remaster for that game was just awful done by night dive studies' no where near the standard to what this new tomb raider original remaster is and i hated the new doom2016 and eternal as that wasn't classic doom style visually they look good but wasn't in the style of what the classic was.

I'm still waiting for a remaster for Knightmare for the Atari ST/Amiga 😆.
I sadly did not have time to play the remaster in February but luckily March awarded me more free time☺ I now have completed Tomb Raider 1, Tomb Raider 2, and Unfinished Business with all achievements😍 (yes also Pistols Only, Speedrun, and NewGame+💪(*)) and it was so much fun to (re)discover everything! I had forgotten so many cool details inside all these levels (even though I've seen them many times (the past few years) in Let's Play's and Speedruns - actually playing them for yourself is quite different) and of course the fact that it's remastered yielded additional (viewing) pleasure (everything is so beautiful now!😍) I'm looking forward to watching your playthrough Suzanne!🥰
(*) For TR1 and TR2 I did 3 playthroughs:
1. All Secrets/Pickups/Kills (not all kills in TR2), No Meds, Pistols Only, getting as many 'regular' achievements as possible, and with unlimited saving/loading;
2. Speedrun (& save less than 86 times in TR1);
3. NewGame+
The link I posted a little earlier today was for a short 'Cinematic' playthrough of The Cave @TheGameBreakersUK created ... it's fantastic 😲 ... btw YT gobbles written comments that include links 😮💨.
