they're really the traditional korean brother /sisters they never stop to fight each other in a real life they're interaction are funny . and Suhyun is just so cute YG recruit them after an audition on KPOP star saison 2 where JYP ,YG and Boa are Jugdes . 9 years of career and they're still on YG that make them one of the longest YG groups in activity .
I remember when Dinosaur came out, can't believe it's 6 years already! It was so unique and little bit different from their usual style and I instantly fell in love with it. Still one of my favorites.
Yes. Dinosaur is an experiment. Many people tried to convince him not to do EDM since it is a little far from their style. He did it pretty well and in good combination of EDM and acoustic.
Chanhyuks mind is a gold mine… he writes crazy light hearted songs and crazy deep heart wrenching ballads… u dont need to understand their songs to feel it
Funnily enough, your first interpretation of Dinosaur--being about adults who can't understand you--already exists! AKMU's "Melted" is another banger from them about adulthood.
Strongly recommend their song 'How can I love the heartbreak'. The melody and lyrics are so beautiful...The brother Chanhyuk is such a genius producer.
Dg not sure if you hear lee Suhyun and Sohyang cover of jessi J "flashlight" on the show begin again korea. It was most perfect beautiful harmonies ive heard @@DGReacts
Some background correction: They the whole family moved to Mongolia because their father wanted to do missionary work there. The debt collector is just one of the theory around this song and is more likely a rumor.
ReBye & How People Move(i challenge anyone not to wanna move to that one it's impossible) aswell as Dinosaur are my fave songs of theirs... Suhyuns vocals are (like you said at the end about her) quite literally a ray of sunshine
About damn time! ;) Their early childhood has always explained to me why they're not at all concerned about being more popular - all they want is to be able to make the music they want when they want to make it. They have a relatively small, but very loyal, fanbase and they have a good life, and they don't want, or need anything else. If you want to get into them more, two of their early (and just fun) songs are "Re-bye" and "How People Move", but you'd need to find a video with subs added, or find the lyrics, since early in their career they didn't have them. Then, if you really want to be blown away, I'd recommend "Hey Kid Close Your Eyes" and "The Happening". A lot of people will recommend Nakka, but that's because IU is in it, but it's - to me - not one of their most interesting songs, still great, though. Nice to see you get to this, thanks. Also, take a break now and then - either that or learn sign language and force us all to learn it as well. I think that the break thing is the easiest choice. ;)
just to add - although they have a relatively small and loyal fanbase, they were dubbed as the "Nation's Siblings" and are immensely loved by the population of South Korea; thus their name "AKMU" (or Akdong Musician) became a staple name, something most people with large fandoms find difficult to achieve. A lot of people tend to downplay their success, hence putting it out there ^^ (also I personally recommend "Melted" - absolute art)
much like "loan sharks", 'dinosaur' is actually the term used to describe debt collectors in Korea, as far as i know. so it goes even beyond imagination or metaphors. i remember when Dinosaur came out, AKMU made it very clear that it was a song they weren't going to perform live or in TV shows because it was such a hard song to sing: for Suhyun, because of the high-pitched breathy notes throughout the chorus (the entire 'beat' of the 'ooh's in the chorus is all those pipes of hers), and for Chanhyuk because of the meaning behind the song, that brought too many emotions. one of the few instances of them performing this song is on Dingo Music, and i still can't watch that performance without crying, because you can so clearly feel the raw emotion coming from Chanhyuk. it is still such an impactful song, but knowing its meaning and the story behind it makes it all that more beautiful.
I never knew that debt collector/ Mongolia backstory. I always thought they were running away to FIND the dinosaur. Like the dinosaur was representing something good, instead of something bad. For some other AKMU content, I can recommend their episode on Knowing Bros together with Somi.
11:43 that's not the snow It's ashes which represent the era of dinosaur became extinct Which also means that the hard times akmu had to go through is over
I strongly recommend their mv for “Melted” - it was one of their debut songs but I cry no matter how many times I watch that mv. The song is very beautiful.
From the news interview, sister really wanted a cute & wholesome song like their beginning days; so, brother pulled out the remaining 'small' cuteness inside from him, which actually was a zip-file. Now we have a super cute lovely Love Lee song :D
Whenever I watch the Dinosaur MV, I start to cry at the bridge.. If you read the lyrics, you know the song is about the story of a family. That story is theirs. Their family used to be poor and face with the debt collectors. It was just an awful memory. I love that how they desire to feel free. Dinosaur's still always my fav AKMU song. *sr for my bad Eng.
Hey mate, thanks for reviewing AKMU's Killing Voice. I didn't expect it to be reviewed by somebody from the Western culture as they are not as IDOL and famous as BTS. As I'm Korean and a person who really loves AKMU's music, I'm really thankful and grateful for your video. Keep up the good work!
Basically suhyun was considering retiring but wanted to do something like their old song 200% so chanhyuk wrote a song that relates back to it for her.
Coming here after watching ONEWE reaction videos. Amazing reaction video here too, love both songs, superb vocals! Interesting insights into Dinosaur as well~
Although AKMU's "Dinosaur" may look like a cute and lighthearted song, it actually has a pretty heavy and deep story and message. AKMU is really good at telling stories with their music in a fun and quirky way that makes them extremely fun to watch and listen to, but when you look deeper, you will discover their songs often have a much bigger meaning or message. AKMU (pronounced like ack-moo -- like back without the b and moo like a cow), which is short for Akdong -- meaning siblings in Korean -- Musician are a brother/sister duo that write and compose all their own music. The older brother, Lee Chanhyuk, is the songwriter and composer, who you will often see and hear play the guitar in their songs, and his sister, Lee Suhyun, is the one who is the main vocal. All their songs are inspired by real life experiences and are almost all 100% created by them. That's why, if you get to know AKMU, you will discover their sound and style really is unique because they are different than the typical Kpop artists. (I kind of think of their music style as folk-pop.) Growing up Suhyun's and Chanhyuk's family was really poor and they were even homeless for a short time. (Their parents were missionaries and they lived in Mongolia for several years.) "Dinosaur" is based on their childhood and it's about how they have learned to overcome the pain and hardship of the things they went through growing up. The song is inspired by the nightmares Chanhyuk used to have as a child, which included dinosaurs. The "dinosaurs" represent the real debt collectors, who they were constantly afraid of, who would threaten them by smashing their things and destroying their home while demanding payment, etc. However, after discovering the "Loch Ness Monster" and realizing that those "dinosaurs" aren't as scary as they seem, they are able to conquer their fear and we see them living a more carefree life. When you see them scream at the world it is supposed to show how they are now taking control of the situation and they are no longer going to live in fear. AKMU got their start on season 2 of the Korean singing competition program Kpop Star, which is a little like American Idol for kids who want to become Kpop trainees. The founder of YG Entertaiment, the founder of JYP Entertainment and highly respected solo artist BoA from SM Entertainment were the judges on the show. Even as teenagers AKMU impressed everyone with their original songs and remix Kpop covers, eventually winning on Kpop Star and signing with YG Entertaiment. Suhyun was only about 14 and Chanhyuk was 16 at the time. They debuted in 2014, so they have been in the industry for about 9 years now and they are still only in their mid-20s. Now as famous singer/songwriters, they are supporting their family. After growing up poor, they no longer have to worry about money. Not only are they making money as Kpop idols, but as the one that writes almost all their songs, Chanhyuk also makes money from their song royalties. Plus, he writes and composes songs for other artists. If you like Suhyun's voice, if you haven't yet, you should check out some of her live performances on the Korean reality show Sea of Hope and another Korean TV program called Begin Again. Sea of Hope, which aired in 2021, was a show -- that also includes Onew from SHINee and several other well-known Kpop artists, actors and comedians -- that teamed up to run an outdoor beach bar. And because the cast of the show are all outstanding singers, they do live acoustic performances of songs for the entertainment at the bar. Some of the songs are songs they have rehearsed together earlier in the day, others are songs that the customers/audience request on the spot, and some are just songs the cast decide to sing spur of the moment. The cast of the show also have the job of being waiters and bartenders, who serve drinks and bring the audience food. The cast comes up with the menu and cooks the food on the show as well. The TV show that Suhyun participated in for 3 years prior to Sea of Hope was Begin Again, which featured singer/songwriter Kpop artists who teamed up to form a group and they spent several weeks busking all over Europe. In Begin Again, not only does the group sing the songs live, but several of the members are also musicians, so they perform the music live as well. In Begin Again you will see Suhyun perform with Henry -- who is considered a music genius that can play almost any instrument, and is known for his songwriting/composing and producing skills -- from SM's legendary group Super Junior, and several other famous Kpop solo musicians and singers as members of a group called The Family Band. This group was so popular that The Family Band actually did 2 seasons of the show. And the best part is, they busked on the streets all across Ireland, England, Switzerland, Portugal and Hungary, etc., so the people they performed for don't speak Korean, but they always fall in love with The Family Band's performances. And Suhyun and Henry also participated in a third season when they traveled around Korea to perform with some of their Family Band members, as well as other well-known Kpop musicians and artists. This show showcases real life busking performances with some of the best musicians and singers in the Kpop industry.
Chanhyuk’s family went to Mongolia for his dad’s missionary work, not beacause they were poor. I just want to help DG Reacts understands more clear about their lives in Mongolia.

They literally sang from AN ACTUAL BOOK LIKE WORDS FROM A BOOK
@justanotherlostperson3902 ikr! That was my fav part in that episode. And each one of those impromptu songs sounded amazing!
That episode proves their musical intelligence and their bloodline as siblings
The debt collector story was just a theory that was debunked by akmu themselves
In another translation of the lyrics it wasn't a mouse that made a hole under the door but a rat, which makes the start of the song somewhat darker.
