Rest In Peace Tony Thompson. Fantastic drummer 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
The best.
definitely
Bless him
Tony Thompson was a masterful drummer who helped defined the 80s sound! RIP ❤
@BlackRosary81 Facts
Robert Palmer is the only frontman for The Power Station.
Yes
Looks like he got replaced by... a lot of drugs lol.
@@peakAV Sonetime after this, at the end of the 90s.
@@therespectedlex9794 I just meant the new singer has always looked gakked out in videos I've seen. Palmer went on to something huge with Riptide, but luckily I got to see the Living In Fear tour when he reunited (without John Taylor) with the band.
@@peakAV Gakked? No shit. What does that mean?
Here's a fun fact about this episode. The Power Station got the gig to appear on the show because Don Johnson was a close friend to the singer, Palmer's replacement, Michael Des Barres. Johnson also introduced the band to the masses at 1985's Live Aid concert.
Patrick Bateman just read JT’s bio and he didn’t mention this episode. Only ref to MV was mentioning DD’s influence on rolled up jacket sleeves. (Don’t forget to return the video tapes.)
Don was also hooked up with Pamela Des Barres for awhile. Of course, she hooked up with just about everyone.
Kevin Nelson yep she was a bit of a goer that one!
Michael Des Barres was also in the “Baseballs of death” episode as the extortionist at the beginning.
Yes he did ! Excellent fact and i am from Philly and actually went to Live Aid ! Although i was there for Black Sabbath and Judas Priest ! Still a metal head to this very day ! Christ Black Sabbath went on after Joan fucking Baez ugggh !
Still makes me laugh when John Taylor says "you're right Crockett, nothing ever changes" as the band continues playing while Crockett starts a bar fight lol
Nothing better than a good ol' barroom brawl to liven things up.
Burnett was his cover.... but they used his real name
John Taylor also insults Robert Palmer AND Michael Des Barres at the same time; he says that there is no difference between the two singers style...
@@PatRicNasty Lol

You know its a Michael Mann joint when shit goes down in a club and the music is still going
Is this a feature film, or was there one by Michael Mann? I keep trying to remember a film that it reminds me of, and it ain't Thief.
@@therespectedlex9794This was from an episode of Miami Vice during it's second season (1985-86). Michael Mann did produce a Miami Vice feature film reboot with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx as Crockett and Tubbs in 2008. Good film, IMO.
@@kevinnelson66 Heard of it, but not seen it. But that was this side of 2000, I think. Thank you
October 4, 1985. The 80s reached their apex when John Taylor appeared beside Don Johnson. The heavens rent assunder, the moon turned blood red and Barbie dolls chased after Teddy Ruxpin in a feeble attempt to prevent the collapse of the universe. Yup, that's how it all went down, brother.
It would be 1986 actually.
I remember the anticipation of waiting for that episode! Die hard Miami Vice and DD fan. Two worlds beautifully meshed to make this young girl’s bliss!
@@mamakat3150 me too, me too....😍
I remember watching this episode back in the day..Miami vice was my favorite TV program 😎
Jesus Renteria I saw this at age 11 good memories
Roger B That’s awesome, I too was 19 in ‘85 and couldn’t wait for Friday night. I even had a White jacket like Sonny Crockett.
Good partner Tubbs keeping an eye on Crockett while dancing because he knows trouble is brewing. And the band just keeps playing during the brawl. No one before or since, on TV, had the swagger Don Johnson has ♥️
Looked like Michael DeBarres wanted to join in the fight. Tony Thompson was probably thinking "Crockett's at it again."
Great line dude, That lead singer was hiiiiigh ! Too bad the Robert Palmer wasnt in this scene. But how about Tubbs ---the mans was LOYAL to crockett . The fkn guy was dancing with a hot chic but kept looking to see if sonny needed his help & he jumped over shit and took 3 guys down .. That was a true bond ..a true Friendship !! love the vice...great clip ..rb
Robert Palmer has waaaaaaay more class.
Tony Thompson RIP.
Oh my god does this version totally blow! Robert Palmer is the ONLY singer for Powerstation!
He’s ok, but I prefer Palmer... RIP
Robert Palmer died too soon! He was a fantastic singer
"you'll never noticed the difference.."
John Taylor
@@b.lukito6063 Narrator: _they noticed the difference_
It's a shame they only played live with Robert Palmer once. An appearance on Saturday Night Live. Very tough to find a clip of that performance.
Miami Vice was my favorite show back in the day. But I always wondered how such a high profile flashy under cover cop was known to everyone in Miami except the bad guys.
especially when he is driving a Ferrari Daytona as his daily thru the downtown streets and has a Scarab docked down at the marina.
cause its the 80s, obviously, bad guys are dumb
You're not supposed to notice that. lol But it was still fun!
That's T.V. for ya, still the greatest show ever on the tube!
I loved Miami Vice! I remember being a kid and seeing the Miami Vice Show with all its action-packed acting and pyrotechnics at Universal Studios. Ah memories! I love The Power Station! Great band.
🎬👏🎶
JT & DJ
the earth must have moved that night.
there should have been another for arcadia to appear on
DeBarres singing LeBon's lead just would be too crazy.
Set in a down low coffee shop.
Yeah and they could have played The Promise, and have Sting with them! 😉👌
or else they appear instead the rap group the fat boys in a scene as a street corner band
Too bad Robert Palmer is not in this...or with us at all anymore. RIP. He had style and class.
Tubbs vs 3 guys at once...
That's kinda unfair on the 3 guys.
The Power Station replaced Cary Grant with Vince Neil...
😂
not sure what i laughed at harder...Tubbs dancing or the bar patron punching the lady?
Lol Tubbs is not great, bless his heart
I laughed at both😂😂😂😂😂😂
R.I.P. Robert Palmer (yes, I know he is not featured in this video, but his replacement makes me miss RP even more)
Michael Des Barres is nice and so friendly
Macgyver's arch nemesis Murdock moonlighting as Power station's new singer. He definitely couldn't "Act" like he was singing. Good griff! 😬
Well, he did join The Power Station after Palmer left (after getting good ideas from JT, AT & NR about good music) and sung with them throughout the entire tour and Live Aid. I saw them twice on that tour. He was good.
I love John Taylor. He is so great in everything he touches. SUCCESS IS THE WORD!
I disagree with your statement. He can't act for his life but I tend to overlook his bad acting skills by looking at his beautiful picture perfect face , hair and long legs. Ahhhhh!!! **_**
@@aba1791 what the fuck
@@mikaylacvetaHe has many gifts, but acting is not one of them and I can say this because I've seen most if not all his acting gigs ( there not that many, fortunately lol). Play the f00king bass John!😆
@@aba1791 I disagree. He's a good actor.
@@pippishortstocking7913 He's a bad actor but everybody loves him
So Murdoc really did survive that little excursion to "Val Verde"... I've got to say this is maybe his best disguise!
Robert Palmer is so much cooler than that other guy, it isn't funny.
It was a shame that Robert Palmer wasn't with Power Station anymore. John and Andy Taylor (Duran Duran) were the bad boys of that group. Also respect to the late Tony Thompson and their producer Bernard (Chic) Edwards R.I.P.
I saw the power station at the cow palace
is this the coked-up lounge version of The Power Station?
Yep
Sadly yes. John looked horrible!!!😭
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed. But who wouldn’t notice. The Taylor boys are fried out of their skull.
As Andy said, they "were snorting half of Peru".
Lol
"We jest gotta noow singgerr" wow JT is so good at pretending to be intoxicated. Oh wait…
"Virgin colada" that was me many years ago LOL John, honey, stick to bass playing cuz you can't act even if your life depends on it, but you don't have to, just stand there with your 6'2'' of deliciousness and I'll be drooling all over my keyboard. Gaaaawd, you're so f***** gorgeous it hurts..
Underrated album imo. RIP to the best dressed man in rock n roll..
One of the best ever made
Shame they couldn't have Robert Palmer doing lead. Michael des Barres just isn't as good.
You'll never notice the difference....except we replace a guy with an understated singing style who looked like a waiter or a stock broker with a screaming guy who looks like a younger, shirtless Jagger who looks like he has a lot of street-dealing misdemeanor charges....
First of all, the "never notice the difference" comment was supposed to be sarcasm for the reasons that you didn't need to specify. Secondly, Michael DesBarres is actually almost a full year older than Robert Palmer, not younger.
@@marywealth6475 jagger is older. Palmer always looked older anyways. U need to try reading karen.
🤣 "...younger shirtless Jagger who looks like he has a lot of street-dealing misdemeanor charges" OMG lol
And with this scene, Robert Palmer sat back and just laughed and laughed....
I think people ragging on Barres is a touch unkind. Jeez people, at least Barres has the energy and loyalty and he CAN sing. That being said, I kinda wished Macgyver would have walked in the bar and MDB pulls out an Uzi and unleashes.
People use to be single minded, especially now a days, imagine if the band evolve in something different?, They approached Mick Jagger, Billy Idol, Mars Williams, and Richard Butler (of The Psychedelic Furs), and Mick Ronson, before Robert Palmer.
Saw this episode last night on dvd. Ok, from 3:26 I was laughing all the way!!! GET IT ON, BREAK OF DAWN... GET IT ON!!! The guy was still siniging!!!!
Miami Vice my fav TV series back in the 80's every Friday Night
Miss it would love to rewatch the series again!,
Power Station could have been massive if Palmer stuck around
I just about died when I saw this back in 1985!!!!😱❤
Can't tell this difference?!?!?!?! Whats up with that John!??! Michael sounds nothin like Robert.,,,
Yea really!
The walkup soundtrack music as they walk up is Vice - Grandmaster Flash
I always felt Crockett doesn’t really engage with JT in this scene as there’s poor eye contact and clipped dialog. Maybe he didn’t know who he was in reality? I know Crockett is eyeballing criminals but it’s a bit awkward all the same.
Back in college, we would sing “Get it on, do a bong, get it on!” Wisconsin ditch weed.
Loved the ‘80’s.
wow... wish i was there....
Was Somebody LMFAO
Barry Slisk Robert Palmer had started on his own album , (Riptide) when John Taylor contacted him about writing some songs , RP had never agreed to tour etc ,when thePower Station album was done ,RPfinished Riptide
Any fight scenes in movies should consult to Jackie Chan's fight scene production team to make it looks more real, better and fantastic
Always some humour in Jackie Chan's fight scenes
We love 80s ana we love Miami Vice!!!
And the band keeps playing.....awesome
Cute John Taylor
I love Crockett and Tubbs character, but I was hoping that Tubbs would redeem his self in the fight after dancing like that.
Shooting schedule must've been a little tight leaving them no time to rehearse that fight scene
In GTA Vice City I entered nightclubs like this with a minigun
Robert Palmer WAS The Power Station imo
Robert Palmer was a great singer but this guy not.
Michael Des Barres has always been a better actor IMO, especially due to his role as Murdock in MacGyver.
Ellen van Dasler-Marsman have some sympathy he is a very good synger
@@Fizzbomb123 Take the shit out of your ears and maybe you will learn what a shit pseudo singer this asshole always was.
I loved his guest appearance on Just Shoot Me.
Michael Des Barres is a dreadful singer, at least by the standards of the original audience The Power Station had. You can blame Andy Taylor for this. In studio, The Power Station was dynamic blend of music style but for the tour Taylor, who is the mastermind of the project, want it to be hard rock, almost heavy metal. Robert Palmer then bailed as it was too loud and metalish so Taylor recruited Michael Des Barres for the tour who suited Taylor's loud, metalish style. I was a huge fan of the album but I saw the tour and it was dreadful. Fans were leaving midway through the show.
2:05 I'm definitely dancing because I feel good and totally not scoping for scumbags or wondering why my partner took off. Completely naturally feeling this, yeah.
Luv the song and I met Don Johnson at a club years ago he was so Kool true story ❤️
3:26 what the hell did Tubbs just do? 😂
Tyrone Phillips 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 3:28 for me
The fight seen was hilarious. Thinking that it was probably not choreographed by Chuck Norris.
I liked the scene @3:25 where the guy lifts himself up over the barrier just as Crockett swings at him ;)
😂😂😂
I grew up in Miami during these times. it was out of control. LOL
how many drugs were needed for these scenes?
Damn this makes me miss being a teen in the 80s. DJ got me on to Lucky Strikes & flashy clothes.
John looked hot as he always did…..he also looks like he threw down one too many …smashed!! Lol!
Sharon Curtis I believe he states in his book he was completely shit faced filming this
😂😂😂
M Hits typical Brit
The band should be named "Powder Station "

The nemesis of Angus Mcgyver!! haha crazy guy..
Man, I hate that this has happened, but I’ve just had two glarin’ errors in this scene jump out at me:
1. The bartender says it’s a shame what happened to Rainey and Davenport; Sonny gives the group his condolences regarding Rainey and Lockhart.
2. Who in the hell is singin’ backup for Mike DesBarres during the song? Far as I can see, he’s literally the only one singin’, but you can literally hear a second voice along with his on the chorus, unless the drummer has a mic I can’t see...?
Taylor has done about 6 lines of beak to loosen him up for this scene. Clearly
THE BLACK BOUNCER HOLDING SONNY AND TUBBS IS A BODYBUILDER NPC CHAMPION MR FLORIDA 1978.
John is wonderful. He's possibly the hottest person on Earth. I love him
Definitivo... John con su belleza engalanó la serie, dando sus primeros pasos como actor en ese episodio... Divino!!!
Michael Des Barres manages to make this great song totally unrecognisable, it is shite! Marc Bolan and Robert Palmer must be turning in their graves...
4:10 gold
Cool scene, but it was not the same without Robert Palmer, RIP
I Love This Show I Think Crockett Is Hot.........

Why would the power station be playing in a bar.....???
I love when both dudes go down at once after being hit 😂
I can't for the life of me figure out what happened to that Pina Colada Tubbs left on the bar...
Wow! That girl is Jon Roberts girlfriend. Jon was one of the ‘cocaine cowboys’ along with Mickey Monday that worked with the godmother to import billions worth of cocaine in the 80’s.
John Taylor from Duran Duran
Gotta admire the guy who punches the gal in the face. Back in the ‘80’s, women could take more than today...heavy sigh, here.
Huh?
the girl in white dress at bar was john roberts girlfriend(cocaine cowboys)
Miami Vice - The Power Station. Sonny Crockett. Just plain could not leave those thugs alone. The guitarist is right. Crockett, nothing ever changes. Just had to show your A.
The "guitarrist" is not really, is the bassist JOHN TAYLOR, the hottest man on the face of the earth back in the 80's
Power station(Robert Palmer)was a break away group from Duran-Duran. Simon Le Bon the original lead singer with Duran-Duran started who later started Arcadia. They later regrouped a decade later
I can recall this episode agree the singer was bad. Robert Palmer did a lot better of a voice. JT rocked.
0:32 That's Jon Roberts' GF, Toni Mooney and her 5 minutes of fame. The other 5 minutes was when she appeared in "Cocaine Cowboys".
I love John immensely but he looked completely trashed in this!!😭
I thought I had seen everything John Taylor had ever done!! I'm shocked!! 😳

He had left the band before this. Michael Des Barres took over as lead singer.
@@alucard624 oh crap, I didnt like Michael De Barrs...forgot about his ass. Lol
@@mastiffpeople4868 I was never a big fan of his singing. However, he was awesome as Murdoc on MacGyver.
Robert had just started recording the album Riptide and was unavailable to tour with The Power Station. Could have seen Robert dropping the mic and throwing down alongside Crockett and Tubbs.
John Taylor was stoned/drunk out of his mind in that scene.... he was a sloppy mess, even couldnt even fake play the bass at the beginning. Thankfully he has cleaned himself up since those 80s coke days he was notorious for.
