I have to disagree with you. I'm a biker of over 40 years, and I have owned a lot of 1000cc + bikes. When I bought my Z4 5yrs ago, I only wanted the 3litre. I have always had bigger engined cars because I like the relaxed and effortless way they perform. There is far more to it than numbers on a piece of paper, and believe me, it does feel quick when your ar*e is just inches off the ground. As for fuel economy, well, it's better than you think. Mine, an auto, averages 28/29mpg doing local runs and on the motorway at legal speeds, it's 35+. Insurance is silly cheap it's only really the road tax that is expensive, around £360 last time. And then there is the soundtrack of the glorious straight six. Simply wonderful, it sounds like a proper sports car. I challenge you to test drive a 3 litre and then still say you made the right choice.

I bet cruising in the 3 litre is awesome. Good mpg you're getting too.
As an experienced biker though you'll have a better appreciation of the road than most so you'll get good car performance.
As the dad of a 21yo who thinks 2hp is a gain worth spending money on in his car, because his mates all think the same, would get a lot from this vid, especially with the price of everything at the mo.

@Smokey Gunn we were all 21 once, and to be honest, riding a motorbike and driving a sports car still you think you are, until you look in the mirror! 😂

I need to drive my 2.5 harder I think 😂 I average 31.7mpg constantly on my 20 mile work commute, and the sound from the straight 6 is amazing.

I've just bought a 2006, 3.0si E86 coupe 6 speed manual with the N52 engine, To me if you want to splash out on a Z4 just get a 6 cylinder, The engine sound and power/Torque is just awesome! A weedy 4 cylinder in a Z4 IMO just doesn't cut it!

I think the 4 cylinders were meant for the ladies. They wouldn't care anyway. If I would have to trade my 3.0L for a 2.0, I'd rather not have it at all.

And compared to my stage 1 tune 428i coupe. My 428i felt more responsive and don’t think to the wheel numbers the extra cash wouldn’t be worth it. And I can’t beat the gas mileage from my n26

I agree with you, need to be honest to yourself and what you want your car to do. Nothing not to love about your Z4. My Challenger is fast but traction is a big problem trying to launch decent 0-60 times. But I bought it as a time machine, makes me feel like high school again. I love my cruiser but it is painfully slow, only 1500cc Suzuki. Great video.

I bought a 2ltr 6spd 2005, 120k miles, a few weeks back. Remapped to 175bhp. I'm getting 40mpg Average (Motorway usage at around 70-80mph as per speedo, and town driving). Getting 45-50mpg on A roads.
Can't be happier with the car. Its in perfect body condition, roof etc. Only a small oil leak from rocker cover gasket. Best £1600, I ever spent.
Absolutely love the car. And I've had around 130 cars so far in my life. And about 20 motor cycles. Not all fast and certainly not new.
This gearbox is just so smooth. You can't hear the engine, only a slight barbble from the exhaust, certainly not intrusive. But my god do they stick to the road.
Not gad the 3ltr version of this car, so I can't comment on what I've nit had. But this cars stats, fuel economy, easier maintenance, I also prefer manuals and ofcourse the price. That's what drew me to this car. Not regretting it.

Unfortunately i have to disagree, a lot of people buy these as second cars so naturally you want something fun that has some decent pace to it, you're also forgetting about torque and how this increases through the engine range, i purchased a 2.5ltr e85 years ago and was utterly disappointed with the performance, just felt like it was lacking in power and torque and the whole purpose imo of a sports car is for fun factor, i now own a 3.0i z4 (again e85) and honestly its night and day difference to a 2.5 (this just put into perspective how much slower the 2.2 and 2.0 must be) the 3.0i was definitely the choice I should have gone with from the beginning.
I could only imagine how much fun the m version must be.

  • @MatSpeedle

and you can remap the 2.0 to have pretty much the same bhp as the 2.2 and it'll probably be better on the MPG still. :)

I don’t understand why when comparing the z4 engines you are bringing motorbikes into the conversation? lol I went with a 2.5l because I wanted the straight six engine and it’s not my daily driver. It’s a Sunday car for me so no way I’m concerned about fuel efficiency etc. I love the sound the engine makes. The low grumble.

Well iv owned a 3.0 z3 as my toy which I had to pay for,now selling my morgan v8 to buy something sensible which we can pay for quite simply if I say it’s only a 2.0 she will be happy but I can still get my nice 6 cylinder sound,if your going to go slow at least it can sound nice 😊

Sorry I didn't reply. 17,000 miles! That's a gem. If the rest of the vehicle was in great condition I personally would have purchased it if I found one like that. I like the 2L. Its thirsty but a great handling car. All you'll gain from a bigger engine is less money in your pocket every time you drive it

I have to disagree a lot with you. MPG is literally the worst argument for the 2.0. The Z4 is a sportscar and not an economy shitbox. Furthermore it's insanely easy to reach >30mpg with the 3.0L. The sound is way better on the 3.0 as is the feeling you get. But the most important argument is reliabiity. The 2.0 is completely unreliable while the 6 cylinders are literally bulletproof. Also if I had a 4 cylinder under that massive hood with an insanely huge gap to the front, I would be assured, that I made the wrong purchase. And the motorcycle argument is just plain rubbish. Only a minority wants to ride >100hp motorcycles which could literally kill you every second.

    • @RevZolution

Glad you've got a different opinion, however, most bikes on the road these days are over 100bhp 🙂it's all about how you control the power.
