A note about the resolution: the 720p on either the XZ2 or the S9 is both much easier to use and more satisfying than the XZ2's 1080p. While the higher res looks better, it's much harder to catch the right moment, and the resulting slow mo is quite short- it's not really worth the frustration. Notice that all of the videos in the montage at the end are in 720p. Hopefully the next generation brings a bigger RAM buffer and longer super slow mo time at the higher resolution.

To be fair, the current generation of 960fps super slow motion videos today is pretty much useless, or at least not yet suitable for everyday use. Sensors need more RAM to store more frames and record for longer, so 1TB is what we need in order to avoid filling up the memory buffer too much that it goes back to normal 60fps video recording.

If we're to look closely, the color of the tip of the top is well-differentiated from the body itself on the XZ2, while the S9+ pretty much makes that tip look the same color as the body of the top.
And we can tell that it's more natural than the S9+. The wall on the back is white on the XZ2, while it was orangish on the S9+ when there was plenty of light. Then the S9+ switched to white when it came to low light while the XZ2 retained the same white color of the wall in low light, so we can say that Sony is more natural. Should I talk about details? The sharpening on the S9+ is horrible, but you're not getting any extra detail with it.
If we compare to DSLRs, the XZ2's video is closer to what a DSLR will produce than the S9+, which, like the brains of salty Samsung fans, is artificial or fake.

Just because you get some more feature, doesn't mean it's better implemented. Sony has the option for 1080p, which is way more usable than 720p, but Sony didn't exactly implemented the same way better. Auto capture, in my experience, is unreliable. Tried it once on the S9 and it didn't even work. I'll need another chance to use it again, but so far, it hasn't been consistent. Besides, a little bit of practice and you will get the shot right on the XZ2 as well.
Is better to have the option to use 1080p than have it automatic. But automatic is easier though... Sony should change the video format in order to reduce data needed similar as Apple does that way they could achieve more somo time with 1080p with same software.
We can find apps on the Play Store that do the same thing. The same time, when we don't need it, it can be completely removed from the phone and free up some space. That's how Samsung loses. They are providing plenty of features that can basically be found in the Play Store. And no, don't tell me that it adds convenience as it is already pre-installed. Users aren't dumb and lazy enough to download an app that they need. Sony has less bloats than Samsung, so they end up having more free space in the storage than Samsung. It is also why the S9+ gets beaten in speed tests; it is running some apps in the background that aren't supposed to be, or needed to be, ran by the users.
