  • Up for sale on eBay as of 1-7-17 is a HP David SLS-3 3D scanning system. Unlike other sellers who copy and paste photos from the internet. I wanted to show the actual scanner that I am selling in action. This is more of a demonstration video than anything. Certainly not a professional instructional video that’s for sure. I just wanted to show it working and how easy it is to use. I will post below when it sells.
I can be emailed at joekind@comcast.net if you are interested. Thanks for watching!

This David scanner SLS-3d scanner package I am demonstrating here has sold. But I will leave the two videos on this scanner package posted as there might be some information in them that might help someone. Right now I am using my own structured light 3d scanner setup running David v4 software and I like it a lot. Being able to change lenses on the camera (it uses C mount lenses) makes it really a great setup over scanners that have the projector and cameras mounted in a box and you are stuck with the focal range and focus that they give you. This setup frees you from those restrictions.

I just got this scanner but with the optional second cam and it is a remarkable piece of hardware. bit of a steep learning curve as there is no one good place to find answers or a comprehensive guide and real tutorial anywhere that I could find. If you see this comment please let me know if there is such information available and thank you for leaving this video up. I did get a few pointers out of it.

As you might already know, David scanners was purchased a couple years back by HP the computer company. The one bad thing that happened is that the original David Laser Scanner website/forum was taken down. It was a huge wealth of information. You could usually find several people chatting about something you were trying to figure out. Hewlett Packard, HP does have web forum that does contain a lot of information, just not as much info as the old David forum that went back many years.
Just this past year I ended up purchasing the SLS-2 version on eBay as the price was too good to resist. I mainly wanted it for the V-5 software. I had V-4 with my own camera/projector setup, but that does not allow the use of two cameras. I also picked up a couple of high end industrial cameras over the summer on eBay at super low prices so I want to play with those over this winter.
Best thing I can tell you is to do a bunch of internet searching. Check out the HP forum and search this site for either David or HP 3D scanning videos. I think I have watched all of them at least 3 times. If you really get stuck on something then drop me another message.
      Stay safe, Bill

The software link is now on the HP web site If you do a web search for the HP v5 3D scanning software. Sorry I don’t have the link right now. If I get a chance today I will take a look for it and post it here.

    What is this software?

一一blackmask SINC This is David V5 software. HP (the computer company) bought out the David laser scanner company to use their software in the new HP Sprout pro computers that can do 3d scanning. I am mentioning this because you will see this same software now branded as HP V5 scanning software. I put together my own scanning setup using David V4 software and could not figure out how to get it to work. Long story short, I figured it all out after buying the David SLS-3 shown in this video and I ended up selling the SLS-3 setup shown in this video. Coming from someone who has used both v4 and V5 versions of this software, I never really ever noticed a big difference between the two and am currently using v4. Only major difference is that V5 allows you to use 2 cameras in your scanner setup and V4 only allows the use of one camera. My one camera setup works well enough for me. It produces some very detailed scans.
