  • A tutorial on knots that I use for bushcraft. I am not an expert really, I just use these knots a lot and this is my way of doing things.
Do not use these knots for climbing or any other dangerous activities!
    Following knots are covered:
    - Clove hitch with slipped overhand knot (mastwurf mit slipstek)
    -Trucker's hitch (spanner mit slipstek)
    -Tautline hitch (stopper stek)
    -Bowline (palstek)
    -Butterfly (schmetterlingsknoten)
    -Sheet bend (schotstek)
    -Highwayman's Hitch / Falconer's Knot (anbindeknoten)

The first knot you use to attaché ridge line, I think you call it a version of a Siberian hitch...this is the best know t for this use I’ve ever come across!
    Used it for years backpacking.
It is so fast and simple, cinches, holds ( I use a long tail so won’t come undone) and you can use the extra security of running the tail through it feelreally the need.
    Finally, it is quick release.
Trucker hitch is my fav knot to tie, but this Siberian hitch is so simple but works so well.
    Thank you.
I learned this from you in 2012 and used it for every ridgeline I’ve tied since. Never once issue.

The Sheet Bend is also good for joining 2 or 3 smaller ropes to one bigger one (or even the same size). Just bunch all three together and tie as for one smaller rope. Try it - its pretty cool!

0:57 I have looked into this Anbinderknoten and what I have discovered is that it is called a node-knot or binding knot.
The node is basically the 'binder' part of the knot (anBINDERknoten). The binder in this knot is the part that is quick release, it helps to securely bind the knot around the pole or bar you're hitching to. In America this knot is often referred to as the HORSE KNOT as it is a quick way of securing a horse to a fixed point with the ability to be released quickly.

Thanks for your Video! I learned the butterfly knot here!
But an information to the bowline (Palstek): the little end should always be on the outer side. It is a sailor knot to secure a ship f.e. and if the little end is comming between the line and the tree (Poller) you can not remove the knot. So the rule is: keep the little end short and outside.

  • @kingdesofmuff
    @kingdesofmuff 12 лет назад

The first knot is very similar to the Highwayman's hitch (apparently used to tie horses reigns to a halting post, working such that if the horse tries to pull away the knot only tightens)

Excellent job there mate. Really helpful thanks!
The knot at 6:16 is a rolling hitch (with one extra turn on the first part of the hitch).
Excellent demo on tying the bowline. I have been using that knot for nearly 40 years now, but have never seen it tied as you did it. Well done indeed!
With the sheet bend, if you find you are having any difficulties with it slipping free (not all "ropes" are good ropes with "grip" o them. Some re very slippery ropes and tie extremely poorly), then simply run that thinner line around the loop again and feed it back under the tension holding part which locks the knot. Simply put, you go round twice, instead of once before pulling the lines tight.

@SwissGearLabs The anbindeknoten and the stopper stek (w/quick release) are two knots I'm going to start using. Instead of your Butterfly knot I use a Pursik knot for many different things. See my "Tarp Setup" video @ 1:07. Although for a damaged rope the Butterfly knot would be great to use. The Bowline and the Sheet Bend are two good knots to know also. I've put your video in my "Knots & Rope" playlist along with other good videos about this subject. Take Care :-))
