Around now is probably a decent time to buy physical PSP games if you want to own and play on original hardware. Decent prices on most things right now, but it's old enough that prices could start going up in a few years.
No lie, i really love Rengoku 1 and 2. I know a lot of people hate it, but it was a lot of fun mixing weapons and just killing things aimlessly. PSP2Infinite is probably my favorite action rpg on the psp though. Fixed the major issues with PSP2 and made Forces usable.
LOVE LOVE LOVED Rengoku II: Stairway to HEAVEN! I would spend hours grinding away on each floor and mixing weapons and armor that suited my gameplay style. Such an underrated game.
Mad I forgot about them at first, but the remasters of Star Ocean 1 and 2 on the psp are pure gold. I was associating them with the original consoles in my head at first.
I don't know if it came first, but I've come to think of Monster Hunter as being its own genre, like shooters, RPGs, etc. You have a large map, that you can freely access, but it's separated into smaller load zones. You venture out from a hub, kill creatures, harvest their remains for resources that can be used to craft new weapons, while also looking for useful items in the maps. Change the details a little and this description fits Monster Hunter, God Eater, Bounty Hounds and about a dozen other PSP games. Any time I se a PSP game with the mini-map separated into load zones, I think "Oh look, it's another 'Monster Hunter" game."
@Hudson yeah It A Good Game But Is Pretty dated Now and it shows ...game extremely difficult Also ... Lmao I really feel like a measly Human Going On a Hunt ...I'm not playing On Psp Tho I'm Playing this On My Vita
God Eater Burst was one of the biggest pleasant surprises I found for the PSP, though I didn't play it until I had a Vita. It was my first MonHun style game and I found it's greater focus on story & less reliance on team multiplayer made it much more accessible to start with. I played through the whole game solo in Burst and had a blast playing through the game again with friends when it was re-released as God Eater Resurrection!! but on the other side of the spectrum was the 3rd Birthday. I am a big Parasite Eve fan and I hated the 3rd birthday. It had some good ideas and when things come together it can really feel exhilarating but the bulk of the game, particularly the 2nd half is marred with insane difficulty spikes & terrible checkpoint spacing which meant that you easily found yourself in situations where it was impossible to progress. If you didn't have a decent manual save file earlier on then you were basically screwed I forked out for the special edition when the game first game out and the UMD is now just sitting there, gathering dust...
I imported Radiant Mythology from Japan back when it was new and I was quite surprised that it came out in English some time after. I enjoyed being able to make my own character and I liked the improvements that the sequels made. I've only played the demo of Half-Minute Hero, but I like the fast pace of it. Ys Seven I enjoyed as well, and it's the first one in the series that I finished. I liked the gameplay and music a lot. Crisis Core I LOVED a lot! I generally don't like Final Fantasy that much, but this one drew me in. I've also played some of Phantasy Star Portable 2, at least a demo of it, but it was very fun! I liked how I made my character looked, though I haven't played much besides the demo and I still need to finish the first game. I didn't really like how you could only import your character's name from the first game or something like that. I also want to note that the game did come out in English, at least in North America. Though I think they did an updated version that was Japan only. Was that the version you were referring to when you said it was finally coming out completely in English? Birth by Sleep is also my favorite Kingdom Hearts game lol! I liked the story and being able to play as multiple characters.
As you mentioned PSP2 came out both in NA and Europe, but the expansion: "Infinity" only came out in japan, since some years ago that PSP2i is fully translated to english, and completely playable along with it's extra missions and other DLC's that came out for it. I would recommend playing directly the extended version Infinity instead of the original PSP2, as it includes balancing changes and improves certain aspects of the original and overall it's a way better experience, plus there is more game to play.
Tales of the World was only my second Tales game after Abyss. But it was so fun. I loved having my own character and meeting all different types of Tales characters. Playing that game made me more interested to play the other Tales games because I loved meeting those characters so much.
The 3rd Birthday was one of my favorite PSP games, so I’m glad to see it mentioned here! I know the story was meh, compared to the original PE games, but the gameplay and soundtrack were superb. Half-Minute Hero was another awesome game that needs to come back lol. Excellent list as always man! Extra points for using the Days Dawn track for Phantasy Star section 👍.
PE3 ending was trash 🗑 but gameplay is quite good and its for psp games ,they really done great job . Some case repeatedly gameplay , but theres still case of questionable changing certain og npc into a pervert and mc cloth keeps on stripping naked(it get worse when reaching harder place) And it doesnt appeal to casual "fan". The ending makes all the fans very dispointed. It only apeal to new people/gamers into the series. Definitely not the fans. But in developer defense the Parasite Eve novels does actually ended perfect in PE1 . I heard afterwards a different author or something continues the novel (created Parasite Eve2 n 3) which give slightly different story then original. The worse developer did is the strip naked mechanic n approving thinking the ending is good idea.
No joke, I spent an entire summer playing Tales of the world and put about 600 hours into leveling all the classes. Also Gurumin has no right to slap as hard as it does. PSP really had some hidden gems
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite were pleasant surprise after getting my hands on new PSP... gameplay loop was cool, then got stuck while trying to get to higher tier content, didn't grind enough I guess?
Parabéns pelos vídeos são muito bons ,sou brasileiro e amo o seu canal conheci vários jogos desconhecidos por sua causa muito obrigado pelos vídeos seu canal é sensacional
I have played all of the games featured in this video at least once. Some more like God Eater and Monster Hunter. The psp had so many good games i still keep playing today
Maybe it's because I'm not a huge Parasite Eve fan or played the first 2 games for that matter, but I had a lot of fun with The 3rd Birthday and for a psp game the graphics were absoluty stunning.
It was also perfect for racing games, of which it has a plethora of those titles. Wipeout, Split Second etc. It also plays ps1 racing titles quite well so far !
I wouldn't say it was perfect for action RPGs because lack of second analog stick. Excluding the Ys games which are fixed camera angles many of these games play better on other systems because of second analog stick. I bet in a few decades people in Japan are going to have an outbreak of Monster Hunter induced carpal tunnel. From Freedom to Generations some people were using "the claw" for a decade.
I'm pretty sure I filled up my PSP memory card and it's screen has begun to warp a little, but if I ever sort out the memory issue, it'd be great to know of more awesome games to consider acquiring for the gem of a handheld. 4:23 - I've always wondered how the half-minute gimmick worked but you're not truly having to complete the game in half a minute, as shown here with your hero restoring the timer. It seems villages and the menu screen also pause time. 5:21 - Oooh, I remember seeing Gurumin before. I believe it was supposed to get a 3DS port at some point but I don't think it ever did. This I recall interesting me when I heard about it. 5:57 - Do love when the equipment has a visual effect and it's neat to see the hat changes. A drill is often a fun weapon of choice. 11:00 - I've heard 3rd Birthday wasn't well received due to the huge departure it had from the previous two entries of it's series, but as a standalone game I like what I see. I believe it has a pretty armour break mechanic and I do like damaged clothes being a means to showcase health and damage. 15:46 - I wasn't expecting a game I own to be on this list but I do indeed own Birth By Sleep. One of my top three favourite PSP games and my favourite entry in the Kingdom Hearts series. I do love when games have multiple character routes, so you can see the story from different perspectives (Sonic Adventure still remains one of my favourite stories in gaming as a result).
God Eater was pretty much my introduction to the 'Monster hunter' type games, as there's really not alot of these type of games at all, its literally just this and MH itself that im aware of lmao
Gurumin is new to me. Not a big fan of action RPG's, but with dual analog controls I might give Crisis Core a 2nd shot as the switch remake. I do like thr Tales series, but there are better Tales games.
Infinity is Portable 2 Plus a large expansion, more content, A new race to play, more abilities, a rebirth/higher leveling system similar to an online competitive prestige-ing system, and a whole second storyline. But you can play ALL portable 2 content in Infinity so if you're coming in and want the most game, its fine to start with Infinity. If you prefer some english dialogue in cutscenes and aren't looking for a game that goes on for probably a thousand hours, then Portable 2 is just fine also.
Monster hunter 3rd is the best of all! Best graphics of psp and the best of all series (imo), sadly it wasnt release in the western so you need a fun made englosh patch (with hd enhancement for better ui with smaller map please). I just discovered how to connect pc and smartphone to play it multiplayer with my 12yo brother and we have a blast playing together.
Another fantastic upload mate 🙂 nice list of games that are 'new to me'. Only 1 I have from the list is - The 3rd Birthday, such a cool game. I can't wait to try the other ones out.
Also phantasy star 2 had a japanese improved version called infinity, its the same game with a lot more content including new races and infinite levels (hence the name) and of course my favorite, original japanese voice acting.
I gotta say i own most of these games all 3 Ys games on PSP and love how the spine of the boxes form the series title, and the plots were incredible 3rd birthday was enjoyable especially the unlockables. PSP2 was interesting but lots of hackers online who could hack levels playing solo is not easy on God either burst also pick your voice wisely, I also had trouble finding people to play with, though, on the upside, the second game of the series is more single player based and as for monster hunter know it’s not for everybody
Love your videos Keep up the good work Did you know that kamiwaza the way of Thief was a Japanese PS2 exclusive game But now it has been remastered for PS4 west It would be nice if you could make a list of underrated games and remastered games.

PSP has both God Eater and God Eater 2 and over the clouds and rest of the music are such bangers , Techno mixed with dubstep for a OP song is just chef's kiss. Parasite Eve : the 3rd birthday is also good and enjoyed the story quite a bit as well (yea know how its weird take), dunno if that is a RPG or a roguelike Think u forgot *Sword Art online : infinity moment* which had 30 floors of Aincard and even had a last hit system from the books that I had to quick save before boss died so I could get that prize else some other npc could get that as well which was a mech in that game 😅
I always see 3rd Birthday getting absolutely shit on by Parasite Eve fans so I'm rather surprised to see it on this list. Nevertheless I'm intrigued by what I see, it looks like a solid action game, and I trust your openminded judgment 🙂
FINAL FANTASY: CRISIS CORE. It ain't a master piece per se, and it feels like the beginning of walking halls.. and baby project for FF-XV battle system... BUT it's got something on it's story and overall difficulty that is JUST RIGHT. -I'd play it again; it's one of those games I ended buying at least 2 of 😂
I must strongly disagree with 3rd Birthday, though for people that have no clue about the Parasite Eve franchise will find a competent shooter with great graphics, but that wasn't enough to turn me off the story and resulted in a massive letdown. The franchise deserves better.
Which PSP RPG was your favourite?
Sword Art Online Infinity Moment! Yay!! 🎉🎉🎉
MHFU for sure. Also, what's the intro song TVGS?
@@snake1029 Great choice!
GEB easy!
Phantasy Star Portable 2 is also one of my favorites!

02:05 Tales of the World Radiant Muthology
03:42 Half Minute Hero
05:17 Gurumin
06:40 Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
08:21 YS Seven
10:02 The 3RD Birthday
11:47 Crisis Core
13:39 Phantasy Stat Portable 2
15:21 Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Saves me the 18 minutes, thanks a lot
Half Minute Hero is hilarious! I remember oneshotting a boss with a fly swatter, simply because the boss happened to be a literal fly monster. 😂😂
Haha such a quirky game!
It's on steam I've played both and whenever I can't find a game to play I play it.
omg, that so damn funny and where stressing to kill it beacause of the timer?
Around now is probably a decent time to buy physical PSP games if you want to own and play on original hardware. Decent prices on most things right now, but it's old enough that prices could start going up in a few years.
I still own My PSP!! Its a Pearl White PSP 3000 model !!
Loved the White PSP, it looked so cool!
Nice! I have a black 2000!
Still works? U can still find parts and acc for it?
Have a PSP slim 3000 series but battery and charger are kinda gone so it's just around.
I enjoyed my time with Rengoku, covered them in a video before and it was great fun!
LOVE LOVE LOVED Rengoku II: Stairway to HEAVEN! I would spend hours grinding away on each floor and mixing weapons and armor that suited my gameplay style. Such an underrated game.

New upload, What a great way to start the week.
Hope you enjoy it!
3rd birthday looks like they took the general idea of parasite eve and upgraded it. awesome.
Just play Yakuza 1 and 2 on my phone man is such a badass game best psp game I ever play so far
Still own a modded PSP Go and it’s a lovely handheld for sure!
I loved the form factor if the PSP Go, was such a great little device!

YS Seven was my first JRPG as a teen and the game that made me love the genre.
I don't think Monster Hunter type games should really count, aside from equipment you don't actually have many RPG elements.
One the best handheld of all time!
I’ll second that! Still play it to this day!

That 3rd birthday game looks stunning for PSP. I HAVE to check that game out
God eater burst absolutely rocks! Especially loved the final hannibal fight and the lead up to it
Such a solid game!
I played God Eater Burst very recently, it was in march i think and MAN that game is so good

Dauntless, Toukiden/Wild Hearts, Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, Ragnarok Odyssey, Asterigos.

Damn it. The moment the music kicked in, I had to shout: "SKYE, TAKE FLIGHT!" xD
I'm surprised you didn't also mention Ys oath in Felghana. I enjoy it more than ys 7
Wow amazing video man… thanks!! 🙏🏼
What's the difference between the "Phantasy Star Portable 2" and the "Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity"?
Infinity is Portable 2 Plus a large expansion, more content, A new race to play, more abilities, a rebirth/higher leveling system similar to an online competitive prestige-ing system, and a whole second storyline. But you can play ALL portable 2 content in Infinity so if you're coming in and want the most game, its fine to start with Infinity. Nayuta is a great action rpg... I m playing it on ps4 and it s really funny... Never played at time on my psp because was only in Japanese.
Also phantasy star 2 had a japanese improved version called infinity, its the same game with a lot more content including new races and infinite levels (hence the name) and of course my favorite, original japanese voice acting.
I gotta say i own most of these games
all 3 Ys games on PSP and love how the spine of the boxes form the series title, and the plots were incredible
3rd birthday was enjoyable especially the unlockables.
PSP2 was interesting but lots of hackers online who could hack levels
playing solo is not easy on God either burst also pick your voice wisely, I also had trouble finding people to play with, though, on the upside, the second game of the series is more single player based and as for monster hunter know it’s not for everybody
Just played Ys 7. Slow at first but turned out to be a top 3 Ys game, up to that point.
From what game is the soundtrack at 15:20? It is very familiar but i cant put a finger on it...
Ooh Grandia 2 music ❤
Why does God Eater have Grandia 2s sound track?
Love your videos
Keep up the good work
Did you know that kamiwaza the way of Thief was a Japanese PS2 exclusive game
But now it has been remastered for PS4 west
It would be nice if you could make a list of underrated games and remastered games.
Thanks Abdullah! Sure that sounds like a great video idea.
Kofxiii ost! Big up!
I look back and wish I had a PSP the hardware was ahead of it's time. This list has some games that I would like to play.
I am curious how you got HD game footage as the games seem to be running at a higher resolution then on the hardware
PPSSPP has a native upscaler that works fairly well depending on your hardware. Highly recommend.
Waiting your video for the best fighting game on PSP.
My favorite RPG on PSP is definitely Crisis Core, but The 3rd Birthday, Persona 3 Portable, and Fate/Extra are definitely close behind.
Great suggestions!

Parasite Eve : the 3rd birthday is also good and enjoyed the story quite a bit as well (yea know how its weird take), dunno if that is a RPG or a roguelike

Black Rock Shooter,Hexy Force(any good)

Tokobots for part2!

Tales radiant mythology was so underwhelming as a cross over. Had they implemented the story and unique characters better it be such a classic.
FINAL FANTASY: CRISIS CORE.
