4:28 Haha! RUclips recommended this older video to me out of the blue. Watching it again, this part is STILL hilarious! "That's all it is?! Sonofa----"
megaman 2’s been available in the states numerous times since 1988 (nes, wily wars, anniversary collection, legacy collection, etc) yet somehow the manual for this product -still- lists crash man by his original Japanese name of “clash man” 😆
i should specify - it says clash man under his sprite in the manual here but literally underneath on the same flipping page he’s correctly listed as crash man. just incredible 😆
I would look for jumpers. Some old game systems sold at Cracker Barrel had more games on them just by connecting a jumper. It was the same hardware and ROM sold as different systems.
It irks me immensily that they can't stick all 6 NES Megaman games on it. And why a joystick? Surely some fake NES style pad would have been easier and cheaper to make? But some boards do have jumpers, like the board for MSI's WWE Steel Cage Challenge plug and play has Ms. Pac-Man on it, and the Ms. Pac-Man plug and play has Space Invaders on it!
Saw it during the 2017 (or 2018) holiday season in our Dollar Generals with other NES titles for $25 each, and they ALL sucked so bad that they were on clearance (for under $10) before the holiday shopping season was even over with (the cashier told me they had a lot of them were returned over QC.)
I passed on all of these when I used to live in a state where Aldi was. The joystick is crap, and button placement should be side not side and B then A.
Omg, I actually own one of these!! If you think the NES SOAC is bad. It only gets worse, Metal Man throws pixelated blocks instead of Metal Blades. I'm serious. Never picked it up after that. ._.
haha. I have one of those, but mine came in the bigger box. I never opened it and basically bought it for collecting. Especially because Mega Man 2 is the best in the series on NES
New to this channel and I dig it... but I can't be the only one that thinks you sound like Steve Brule's cousin or something right? Lol "For your health!" 👍
I totally was gonna but this the other day! But then I waited and they sold out... that’s the Aldi life, you snooze you lose! I wouldn’t want it any other way!
I have one of these, though I got mine at a local thrift store maybe three years or so ago. It was new in the box, and they were selling them for I recall $2.99 (most likely overstock from a Dollar General). The box has a window in the front so you can at least see what you are getting. Otherwise, it is identical to what you have there, right down to the chintzy manual. I tried it out once, and the plug-in was at least as cheap as one would expect. I just keep it in the box alongside of three boxed Basic Fun arcade games I got at Wally World when they were carrying them.
Bought it for my grandson but it has issues. Batteries don’t fit tight enough or something. Power flicks and game resets constantly. Kind of a bummer cause he likes to collect plug n plays….
That base design looks just like the one used in the Retro Arcade Pac-man and Retro Arcade Space Invaders Jakks TV games except those Jakks TV games had microswitched buittons and joysticks.
Oh man, Mega Man 2 is one of my all time favorite NES games, but even at $11, this is a hard pass for me haha. But kudos to you for testing it out for us!
That's an unforgivable sin IMO. The Karate Champ mini-arcade has the same problem and it messes up the game's strange button combination patterns as a result.
They should have added more Mega Man games than just putting Mega Man 2 in the machine. I feel like it should have included every Mega Man NES games in the Plug and Play System to give out more buy for Mega Man players or collectors that doesn't have any of the NES Mega Man games. I know that a lot of Plug and Play Systems included more than just one game in each system.
I've seen videos on RUclips of others that have bought this where they took it apart and took out these chip and replaced it with a Raspberry Pi with a NES emulator and have every NES game on it.
At a random discount store I picked up 2 WWF(E) Steel Cage Challenge NES PAP that's exactly the same when I opened it up. Thankfully I paid 5$ a piece. Strangely this ROM was modified because they swapped one wrestler from the original game with another. Yet it's MSI and the exactly the same casing.
Ah lets see.. because duplicating mono sound to come out of both the left and right speaker is better than audio only coming from one side... Just like how I use my original NES and Famicom..
I remember back in the days in this game was actually relatively new and it just came out but I remember buying Sonic and knuckles at Aldi but this was like back in 93 or whatever when it first came out but there were also selling TVs there too
I bought an earlier version of this little system back a few years ago where you can see it through the plastic. I saw this version at Aldi's too but passed. MegaMan 2 is my favorite in the series so it was appealing to me to pick up. But I don't need two versions of it.
i seen a handheld one several times, at kohl's. Looked gameboy-ish. Only played the first 3 man man titles. i don't remember clearly, i think you may have covered it before
This plug n play is by MSI entertainment Formerly Majeso Entertainment from Florida. Whereas the computer guys are just called MSI and it stands for micro star international and they're based in Taiwan so (nearly) same name but different companies
I remember back in '94 when Aldis sold copies of Sonic & Knuckles and Donkey Kong Country along the cash registers. So the fact they're selling this isn't THAT far-fetched to me.
Dude, I actually have this thing. Played for a couple of minutes and then put it away because I have the mega man legacy on xbox and works way better lol. I think I paid $15 for mine.
I still have one from the early 2000,s It was The Batman From the old cartoon series It uses the exact same amount of batteries In the same plugs. And that was the only video game for The Batman back then Curtain series. You can get a new Knobs on eBay It just on screws on the top
It's like the modern day equivalent of a tiger electronic device: packaged nice with colourful print graphics but a basic single game. What's not to like 😀 . I'd love if they did things like this for arcade games. Like a single cheap mini stick with Mega Man Power Battle
i bought a sega genesis console with a bunch of games on it from the dollar store a few years back but I ended up returnning it unfortionatly due to the controller being super cheap and the response was just completely un-playable..... to bad they didnt up the quality a bit...
I bought it on clearance at Aldi too. It’s totally worth it for $11. Love the artwork alone and it plays well on my CRT, 😂. The joystick is fine, I was able to play and beat all the levels.
It really isn’t that bad if you get used to it. I bought one for all of my friends and they enjoy it but we did get it for five bucks each so it wasn’t bad for a nice little present.
For everyone saying that they could get all the games for cheaper yeah okay digital games you don't get a physical device that needed manufacturing packing and shipping. It's only $11
Got mine today! I’d say you’re right handed therefore you’re finding the joystick difficult. Try being left handed playing with a right handed joystick!
that's still pretty neat . also this better sticks better buttons concept goes over my head. being an arcade junkie as a kid. sometimes i would meet a machines that would be a bit broken from lots of people playing it. I would play these games my quarter was already in the machine. so I learned to compensate. this might be from growing up poor. But even if a controller broken i'll still do my best to win. So I don't think I could tell if a stick on a machine is good or bad. but i still love your videos
I collect Plug N' Play games, and I bought the WWE version a few years back for $10 on whim at a BB&B while my girlfriend was looking at something,, and I felt ripped off!!
This would have to be a device emulating an NES, since the Capcom and MSI logos have nonstandard NES colors and their fades are too smooth for the NES. If it was a NES on a Chip (NoaC), those graphics would need to be part of the NES ROM, NoaCs are a heavily stripped down version of the NES architecture and thus not emulation. Ironically, the one-chip SNES, an official Nintendo product, was more of an emulation box than these bootleg machines.
Its clone hardware, for a long time there has been NES clone systems that use chips to replicate the original, but typically not perfect but usually passable. Nowadays they have been able to condense these clones to a single chip in a small formfactor. So its not using software to run the games, its behaving like its a actual NES console.

"That's all it is?! Sonofa----"
worst case scenario? you have a machine that plays MegaMan 2
Any console that takes batteries is a home run in my opinion. No electricity! Especially here in SoCal.
How do you power the TV itself?
Also SoCal is just another name for California. I know for a fact we have electricity in the USA.

I found this at my ALDIs and I was going to buy, but when I noticed it was only for 1 game and not the collection I passed.
Yup.
Was this the only game they had at Aldi? because I know MSI also made plug and plays featuring Double Dragon, Ms. Pac-Man, and Space Invaders
I passed on all of these when I used to live in a state where Aldi was.
The joystick is crap, and button placement should be side not side and B then A.
@@marccaselle8108 Even Nintendo hasn't figured this out with their first party games on NSO 🤣
Omg, I actually own one of these!!
If you think the NES SOAC is bad. It only gets worse, Metal Man throws pixelated blocks instead of Metal Blades.
I'm serious. Never picked it up after that. ._.
Fun Fact: Aldi is a super high scale grocery store chain in Europe (which is kinda the opposite here in the USA)
*If it’s Mono, it must be the NES Rom*
I'm a simple man: anytime I see NES or Mega Man I automatically like.
NES had mono audio. Would have been cheap to split the same mono signal on two RCA plugs just so people get less confused ...
I passed on this at Aldi when it was $25 (on sale) and was relieved after googling it (since there wasn’t anything on the box).
Put a Raspberry Pi Pico in it with sanwa stick and buttons! 😮
They didn't even included the famous intro with the camera panning up from the skyscraper, that makes it even more a ripped off
I can't blame you on the purchase. 12 bucks and the retro mega man packaging, if nothing else it looks neat on a shelf as a nice conversation piece
I totally was gonna but this the other day! But then I waited and they sold out... that’s the Aldi life, you snooze you lose! I wouldn’t want it any other way!
What kills it for me it's that it's just batteries no AC Adapter option I hate that. Good review and cool video Ron!
Considering it's 3 AA batteries (4.5v), you can probably solder a 5v cell phone charger with the USB chopped off to the battery terminals.

I have the same thing at walmart years ago. The packaging was better bc it had a window.
Yeah! I have the same one :)
Mega Man 2 is my all-time favorite sequel in the series !
Next time i'm at Aldis i'll buy it !
This looks like the one I heard had a reen rating and other crap cuz it's not a very good NES on a chip.
"He went to NES Clone school in China" - I lolled, there may just actually be such a place judging from the amount of clones. I'll steal this quote...
Here comes the new Rockman/Megaman 2 Aldi emulator speedrun category
Oh no! Mlp broke the seal! It would have been worth gazilians to collectors.
That base design looks just like the one used in the Retro Arcade Pac-man and Retro Arcade Space Invaders Jakks TV games except those Jakks TV games had microswitched buittons and joysticks.

I know I have always wanted to play Mega Man 2 with a manual car transmission knob.
The only thing I really didn't like was the buttons are mapped backwards
That's an unforgivable sin IMO. The Karate Champ mini-arcade has the same problem and it messes up the game's strange button combination patterns as a result.

What's better 1988 game, smb3 or megaman2
2:25 Why would you need stereo sound when the NES was in mono?
Ah lets see.. because duplicating mono sound to come out of both the left and right speaker is better than audio only coming from one side... Just like how I use my original NES and Famicom..
I wish they sell them at my ALDI store 🙏🏽this machine would look great in anyone's collection 🙏🏽
I don't know what's better, that Dr Wily's first name was Theoailr, or that mega man builds up weapons as yo.
I eye this up every time I go down that Aldi Aisle and have been hoping you would buy it so I didn’t have too!
I remember back in the days in this game was actually relatively new and it just came out but I remember buying Sonic and knuckles at Aldi but this was like back in 93 or whatever when it first came out but there were also selling TVs there too
Its a repack from those units that were put out like 6 years ago for impulse xmas purchases.

Depending on parts and how pretty the case is in real life, be even cooler to just make it into a Mega Advantage.
I was thinking the same thing. Looks pretty cool, but that stick looks pretty wack. Looks too small to swap in a better one.
Were you thinking about putting the console game board into a nes advantage? I see that as very possible.
MSI? Don't they make motherboards for PC?
This plug n play is by MSI entertainment Formerly Majeso Entertainment from Florida. Whereas the computer guys are just called MSI and it stands for micro star international and they're based in Taiwan so (nearly) same name but different companies
It's fun to watch you having such a good time with this stuff.
I swear I seen that exact one except there was 3 Megaman games on it and it was like $5 ,but that was Pre 2020, maybe 2015 or 2017.
Aldi. Can you still rent a grocery cart for a quarter? :D
yep you have to have a quarter if you want a cart. you also have to pay for bags for your groceries or you can grab a box they arent using for free.
I would not want to play Mega Man 2 with that stick.
Literal landfill material. Even for free it'd be a waste when it's so low quality that it's only purpose is to take up space.
Cool, thanks for sharing, I almost bought one. My local Aldi has them clearance marked for $6 . Maybe if it was a different game.
I remember back in '94 when Aldis sold copies of Sonic & Knuckles and Donkey Kong Country along the cash registers. So the fact they're selling this isn't THAT far-fetched to me.
For a cool and neat looking retro device I kinda like it. Really like the box too
This would be a really fun project to cram into an nes controller
This box is the original Famicom box from Japan for Rockmam 2
Reminds me of those 'Jank's Pacific plug n plays from back in the early 2000's ... non microswitch cheap ass membrane sticks 🤣
Dude, I actually have this thing. Played for a couple of minutes and then put it away because I have the mega man legacy on xbox and works way better lol. I think I paid $15 for mine.

I bought two of these also at my Aldi. They were less than $6 at mine.
I didn’t even know there still were officially licensed Plug-N-Play’s in 2023, is this the successor to the Ms Pac-Man? 💀💀💀
Aldi's got some super random stuff. I used to work at their warehouse
Not bad considering how much an original cartridge may cost.
It's better if this plug and play console had all six Megaman games with NES style button layout instead of the arcade ones.
Need high res pics of the main board
It would be cool if they did this for each of the other Mega Man games too.
Hey, megaman is still cool. I like these lil handhelds - almost like game room decor / swag
It's like the modern day equivalent of a tiger electronic device: packaged nice with colourful print graphics but a basic single game. What's not to like 😀 . I'd love if they did things like this for arcade games. Like a single cheap mini stick with Mega Man Power Battle
More likely Jakks Pacific than tiger electronics.
Hey MLP. I remember these type of toys back in the days. Pacman , galaga and the sort.
You tubers buy them so they can add it the visible background gaming merch shelf
i bought a sega genesis console with a bunch of games on it from the dollar store a few years back but I ended up returnning it unfortionatly due to the controller being super cheap and the response was just completely un-playable..... to bad they didnt up the quality a bit...
Surely this comment is a joke? Up the quality a bit? from the dollar store? What quality are you expecting from a dollar store lolz.
@@Lookoutmedia353 the quality of the sega brand...
looks ok for putting a rasberry pi in ud pay 11 dollars for the box alone without the controlls, so yea worth that just in parts
I'm not sure what you mean by NES on a chip. I thought that's what emulation was.
I bought it on clearance at Aldi too. It’s totally worth it for $11. Love the artwork alone and it plays well on my CRT, 😂. The joystick is fine, I was able to play and beat all the levels.
If I got this it just be to stick in a shelf next to a Donkey Kong and Mrs. Pacman 😄 a little decor 👌
It really isn’t that bad if you get used to it. I bought one for all of my friends and they enjoy it but we did get it for five bucks each so it wasn’t bad for a nice little present.
I got mine here in oz for $2 at K Mart I got 2 x Megaman and a galaxian for $6
I have this, got it a few years ago from Walmart. Actually beat the game in this.
This looks super sweet
“The stick, it gets stuck” well, it is called a stick….
Have that mega man plug in from a CVS a couple years back. It's absolutely horrible 👀😅
It atleast looks cool to display on a shelf
For everyone saying that they could get all the games for cheaper yeah okay digital games you don't get a physical device that needed manufacturing packing and shipping. It's only $11
The box is probably the best thing about it.
Got mine today!
I’d say you’re right handed therefore you’re finding the joystick difficult. Try being left handed playing with a right handed joystick!
I gotta say, playing Mega Man 2 with a joystick seems awful 😅
that's still pretty neat .

Probably the worst way to play MegaMan 2 lmao
I think it's pretty dope. Love me some megaman. Remember playing this when I was a kid.
I collect Plug N' Play games, and I bought the WWE version a few years back for $10 on whim at a BB&B while my girlfriend was looking at something,, and I felt ripped off!!
They also had Ms Pac Man and Space Invaders too
I found one of those that has Gauntlet and 2 other games at a good will for $1
I know mm2 box art is cool as all hell but don't let it fool you if you it in some retail store.
For $11 that's sweet
I've got one of these and I've never even unboxed it.
