Is the term 'Open FPGA' an industry term used to describe this type of emulation that anyone can use with the products they make? Or is this marketing lingo used by Analogue and trademarked to generate sales and indicate that they are the only game in town. Like Meta?
FPGA i believe stands for field programmable gate architecture and yes it's open to anyone. It's hardware emulation versus software emulation basically. Several companies are playing around with it (terraonion mega SD which emulates Sega CD at the hardware level as well as functioning as a ODE and ROM library). FPGA is kind of iffy for more complex architectures like Saturn and N64 at least last I've heard or seen.

While I never got them, the SNES and Sega Analogue consoles seem like they are the best for people with those collection of games. I got the TG16 mini and while there are good games on there, I only care for a few of them (Ys is best). I think they would make a Sega Saturn next if possible, but maybe a PSone as well. Maybe even a standalone Sega CD console.
I appreciate devices like this for what they do. I don’t like dealing with the BS that comes along with it. And I’m pretty happy with my SFC 1chip through scart on my RT5X. And I bet by the time all is said and done the analog duo thing….a core grafx and terraonion SHDS3PRO would cost as much.
I'm not understanding the upset here. I pre-ordered mine when this final run launched in October. It's now the end of February. If you didn't get yours in over the last 5 months, that's on you.
I like the original Genesis 1 and 2, cause that's what I had in the 90s, the only difference is that I now play via HDMI, 90s I used that AV cable thingy.
Emulation being a much freeing and accessible endeavour for everyone is why I really loved the idea of Analogue but never could make the decision to purchase their products. I think Emulation developers focusing on cycle accuracy of the retro console is just so much more important for the future of game preservation.
Well, I guess I'm stuck paying the stupid high price on ebay for a Mega SG now. I was trying to pay some stuff off and have some extra cash to order one. Anything comparable you could recommend? I was going to just load up an everdrive and have some fun.
Comparable and use cartridges? Not in the sense of features, but if wanting to use original controllers and cartridges why not an original system and get a scaler like an OSSC or Retrotink5X and get component cables... that will yield visual results that are comparable... but could be very costly. Another option would be a RAD2X if you can get one for retail and a original Genesis console... that combo allows you to play via HDMI without a bunch of extra cables or power supplies and could cost less than a Mega SG... There are cheaper clone consoles for the Genesis... like from Hyperkin etc... but they never seem to get the sound and visuals right. But if not worried about cartridges or everdrives could always just emulate Genesis... or go in on a MiSTer setup... MiSTer would be similar to how the Mega SG handles Genesis games anyway... but its just loading up an SD card or harddrive with that option...
Only physical cartridges I really keep in my Pocket is the GB because that green dot matrix shader is soooooo good and the Open FPGA core doesn’t have it (yet)
I'd love some Analogue consoles but man their shipping prices abroad are insane, $50 for the Analogue pocket to Ireland, where I can order about 4kg worth of goods from Zenmarket to be delivered from Japan for the same price, don't know what's going on there, maybe spending $10 on shipping and putting the rest in their pocket?
I'm not picking on anyone. Analogue NEEDS competition! If Analogue gonna phase out those consoles there NEEDS to be a competitor to keep up the demand !
Why not on try to make a one Console for everything, such like a "Mister" machine or something?, but for the classic consoles and their own physical carts. I know it's too much money for on try to make it throughout; on making gaming consoles and try to massify them, it's a very pricy endurance.
For Super Nintendo since I sorta missed out on a Super NT , I use a Classic 2 Magic cart dumper and either play my carts off of my snes classic edition or hook it up with my carts to my Mac or pc and selecting desired emulator
Good video... As always. Thumbs up. You are right that everybody is looking for something but why some people who are buying Analogue cart only products they are screaming for ROM support straight away? Buy MisTer instead and you are ok with much more advanced features than any Analogue machine except for loading real cartridges. Analogue pocket is in a different league. It's portable and this is where Mister or or any other Analogue product can't deliver. You suddenly have FPGA SNES, NES, Genesis etc on the go! Via dock you can play all this stuff on your TV! With the development speed of AP is catching up with MisTer but still trails behind and probably will never deliver some MisTer features because of the hardware limitations. I have both MisTer and AP with dock. To be honest my AP dock is for fun only because I am a gadget fun and like it to have. I always play on a big TV on MisTer for now. I also have a bunch of the original consoles and OSSC to hook them on the TV but to be honest MisTer is now my 1st choice. But on the go - AP can't be beaten at the moment and does not have any competition at the moment. Having original carts GBA carts (I have a lot!) or Easy Flash Omega delivers everything you need. Game Gear - 2 of them died in my hands and I dont really want to invest in recap and new screen etc but my huge collection of the carts is still playable on AP with an adaptor! Plus full collection of ROMs on the everdrive.... Their next product is questionable. The good games collection is questionable. Having original CDs for CD games is a no go for most. AP can play ROMs now pretty well and there is MisTer which can play much more via FPGA.... I skip it and not because of the price but because I can do what I want via FPGA right now plus what Analogue is promising in the next console release...
I had already bought a few Super Nts and Mega Sgs from the last time they were in stock. (No, I don't resell them) I can't have any bad feelings toward Analogue for discontinuing their products. They did make it public that they were discontinuing both of these consoles a couple of months ago. Both consoles stayed in stock for SEVERAL months after the last run so people were not rushing to get one. I was in the want for an Nt Mini Noir when they did the "For Reals" last batch, I ended up getting a total of 4 of them and they stayed in stock over two weeks after. I want to see the Duo come to light. I will feel a LOT better once Analogue has my money, at least I'll know I will eventually get one (or two).
I placed an order just to have back ups & fomo, but I checked in several times later on and they were up for sale for the longest time. I think everyone had a chance if you really wanted one.
I want an Analogue Duo as well despite having zero TG16/CD games but when the console was announced Everdrive said that the next Turbo Everdrive was going to be able to play CD games. Some people have speculated that the discontinuation of the SuperNT and MegaSG was a sign that they're going to come out with a multiconsole like the Retron5 or their own Polymega. No evidence but just speculation
I bought the Mega SG and 2 Super NT’s. They’re still sitting in my closet boxed up where they’ve been for nearly two years…. Some days I’ll use them I guess.
I'm hoping they do something that's a hybrid of the NES, Famicom, SNES/SFC, and Genesis/Mega Drive to try to hit as many as they can with one system. I'd also suggest seeing if they can hit PS1 and N64 emulation.
Based on how they price their stuff, such a combo would probably cost north of $1k. That alone is a strong reason for them to not do it, but would you buy it if they did?
@@qactustick I doubt it would be that price as the chip is supposed to emulate the hardware. Now if this were to emulate the PS2, Gamecube, Wii, DS, 3DS Wii U, you could make a case for the that price point as it would need a more powerful fpga, but I don't think it would need more.
@@Ness_and_Sonic It's not going to be priced at a bargain was basically my point. These are boutique devices with premium prices, partly because they also can't be produced at the same scale as the larger console manufacturers. This is a pretty niche market.
@@qactustick I can get that they're not going to be cheap, but I believe it's because of the FPGA. However, you only need one FPA for many systems, as the pocket showed. So if they hit many of them with one device, they can make it seem like a bargain.
@@leatherhidegaming that would have been dope! I bought the Super NT with the expectation that it would eventually be jailbroken and we could play other cores, like all other Analogue systems… but my luck has it the Super NT is the only one without additional cores capability 🤦🏻♂️

Hi buddy I think personally a n64 will be comeing out next from analogue also I am shocked hyperkin has not come out with a n64 hopefully because I have lots of carts
Analogue knows exactly what it is doing, encouraging those purists obsessed with playing on the original hardware and I understand that when it is the original hardware but not with these products that have a price to think about and even worse such a limited run. The future is Mister but the transition will be quite difficult for these purists.
It's still more than likely supply chain issues. They want to focus all of their production capacity on the pocket. That being said I still agree with you.
@@dannyconnell8827 I was going to mention that but they were doing similar stuff before the supply chain issues and those issues don't mean you have to stop making the products.
My guess is they'll make a SNES console that can accept a slew of cartridge adapters. Or maybe they'll start on more CD stuff like the Sega CD + a Saturn + Dreamcast??
I don't get why Analogue isn't putting wifi/ethernet into these consoles and then creating a store for buying ROMs/Cores. This is what I thought they were going to start doing with the Pocket, but they don't seem to be adding the necessary hardware.
I wasn't as interested in the Sega Megadrive/Genesis replacement because Emulation does a pretty good job. Having the Super NT is cool but its more of just a Super Mario RPG and the few games where I want a bit more accuracy console. I don't think it was worth the price after being a long time user, I still much prefer emulation. If there was an FPGA Nintendo 64 Replacement, I'd get that and for the Dreamcast as well. Emulation is functional for just about everything else.
They were available for a long time so if someone didn't get one that's on them not the company that made them. I got both their Snes and Genesis clone consoles years ago and I'm still waiting on their Turbografx 16/CD console.
I’m guessing they will release NES, SNES and Genesis consoles again, but with the Pocket OS (memories, usb controller mapping, etc.) and/or different form factor, or something along those lines.
you've been on reddit too much my man. 90% of their base has large tree stumps up their asses. And I'd say about 70% on here reside in that very same forest.
I have 3 Sega Genesis consoles I got a Sega Genesis version 1.5, 2 and 3 versions and also emulate. The Sega Genesis 1.5 is what I call the first revision of the Sega Genesis model 1.
After the Duo Analogue will relaunch their CMVS as a cheaper plastic console and it will accept Neo Geo AES and MVS carts and 8bitdo will launch AES style Bluetooth joystick controllers to go with it
Pure speculation, but I think they leverage their OpenFPGA platform and release a MiSTer-like device. Almost like Pocket dock mode, but JUST the base with a controller + sd card slot. Maybe even more powerful to support disc games? up to 3do, Saturn, etc?
@GetDown exactly. Throw in a cd-to-fpga type functionality, usb connected cart readers, get over the hardware limitations that MiSTer has and you have a dream setup. Throw in 8bitdo controllers for each "system" and I think that would blow away Polymega. Only problem is we wouldnt get it until 2030.
I want Mister because I want to play on component cables via my Sony Trinitron. I have drooled over Analogue products in the past. I want the pocket so I can drag and drop my save files from my flashcarts.

@@ivey77426 yes 16 bit is easy to emulate but for accuracy fpga cannot be beat.i have tried so many different ways so know this from experience.yes agree they could make a unit that plays everything but then for them that wouldnt be a good buisness move
MLP made a bowfinger reference. how cool.
Chubby Rain. Bowfinger 😂
Actually, my mum's vibe only runs Doom at about 12fps. It's not powerful enough to run PS1 games
Only physical cartridges I really keep in my Pocket is the GB because that green dot matrix shader is soooooo good and the Open FPGA core doesn’t have it (yet)
Already have the Super NT and Mega SG. Fingers crossed for a cheaper NES version.
Dude Oakdale is cold as windy today.
I miss Durango, Mexico
I'd love some Analogue consoles but man their shipping prices abroad are insane, $50 for the Analogue pocket to Ireland, where I can order about 4kg worth of goods from Zenmarket to be delivered from Japan for the same price, don't know what's going on there, maybe spending $10 on shipping and putting the rest in their pocket?
I'm not picking on anyone. Analogue NEEDS competition! If Analogue gonna phase out those consoles there NEEDS to be a competitor to keep up the demand !
They need to do new systems that no one else has done like Atari Jaguar or N64.
Why not on try to make a one Console for everything, such like a "Mister" machine or something?, but for the classic consoles and their own physical carts. I know it's too much money for on try to make it throughout; on making gaming consoles and try to massify them, it's a very pricy endurance.
Ron’s moms VIBE is on FIRE today with his BIG BOY rage! NICE! HA! retro choice and freedom to have gaming fun per MLP!
I settled on this being the best clone. Out of my price range but I might have bought one. What's as good as this one?
For Super Nintendo since I sorta missed out on a Super NT , I use a Classic 2 Magic cart dumper and either play my carts off of my snes classic edition or hook it up with my carts to my Mac or pc and selecting desired emulator
Just came back from socal back to vegas. Definitely snowing in socal! Snowing here in vegas now too.
But neat! Didnt know you were in socal.
I almost bought a product from them but thankfully went the MISTer path instead and have avoided all their BS.
I had already bought a few Super Nts and Mega Sgs from the last time they were in stock. (No, I don't resell them)
I can't have any bad feelings toward Analogue for discontinuing their products.
They were there 2 days ago....
and in november 2022 until 2 days ago
I placed an order just to have back ups & fomo, but I checked in several times later on and they were up for sale for the longest time. I think everyone had a chance if you really wanted one.
yeah i remember it being super easy to get.. i really didnt want one, having an fpga meistr 😂
Video really did begin with a discussion about the weather.
I wonder why they couldn't put a 32X core on the Mega SG?
Been waiting for a cheaper NTmini for years. It makes sense to eventually do this, it’s easy money for them.
I wish they would just release a NES cart adapter for the Super Nt but that won't happen anymore.
I said screw it few years ago and got a RetroUSB fpga NES. It's fantastic.
@@TheAlphaOmegaX3 good for you, I’ve looked into it recently, they are on back order, would be a long wait, but definitely worth it I imagine 🍻
@@leatherhidegaming that would have been dope! I bought the Super NT with the expectation that it would eventually be jailbroken and we could play other cores, like all other Analogue systems… but my luck has it the Super NT is the only one without additional cores capability 🤦🏻♂️
@@tonyrosario1940 Yeah I got tired of waiting lol. It was either the RetroUSB or mod my original hardware.
Some gamers can't afford certain platforms or can no longer afford them. Some lived in their house and now due to life's circumstances now live in an apartment which is much smaller and don't have room for big collections anymore.
Amazing channel, keep up the good work💪
Hi buddy I think personally a n64 will be comeing out next from analogue also I am shocked hyperkin has not come out with a n64 hopefully because I have lots of carts
I know they showed off a prototype N64 clone ages ago
@@ThatSneakman I did not know that so is it analogue or hyperkin showed it off thanks my brother
Ehhh, all these consoles were available for years.
Chances are, most folks who really wanted one have one by now.
Analogue knows exactly what it is doing, encouraging those purists obsessed with playing on the original hardware and I understand that when it is the original hardware but not with these products that have a price to think about and even worse such a limited run.
The future is Mister but the transition will be quite difficult for these purists.
the weather out in Central Valley is weird!!!
I'd preorder an Analogue N64 right now.
I really wanted one. For the last few years. But they always went straight to the scalpers.
Apparently an Analogue N64 is next up called the Analogue 3D. Releasing in 2024.
Analogue doesn't want money? Just make them in batches. People still want these things. All this does is make people weary of your business practices.
Reature Fich. haha. love the video!
I don't get why Analogue isn't putting wifi/ethernet into these consoles and then creating a store for buying ROMs/Cores. This is what I thought they were going to start doing with the Pocket, but they don't seem to be adding the necessary hardware.
Exactly what ROMS do you think they would be able to sell?
I got the GB operator instead of the analouge pocket. So much bettter plus only $50. Epilogue is coming out with a SNES opereator soon.
whoops, guess i should have pulled that trigger a couple weeks ago when i was still on the fence. glad i got my mega sg preorder in :/
What's next? You buy a dirty console from DK Oldies!
Saturn is not so hot on emulators. Though is got better in last years
@@saddlesore_adventures The saturn too would be good. Didn't the saturn have some Capacitor defect that ruined a lot of them?
I really want a Sega Saturn from Analogue. Further in the future I would want an n64 and Dreamcast. Basically any system that isn’t natively HD
Your mum's vibe! Classic!😂
theres a snes core for the analogue pocket. it docks to tv.
Can't someone just put a FPGA inside the Retron 5 and call it a day?
I think the Analogue Duo will finally have a FREE FPGA
Meh... I just built a MiSTer. Same thing, plus it can be customised to my liking
I love my analogue consoles. My older brother got me hooked on them.
