Awesome game John! Can I ask why on 12:20 Qc3 wasn't considered? I mean, if b4 then Qc6+ and you get a knight. If black plays a random move then you can play b4 and trap that bishop
If you look and the beggining black justo play really quickly and had a 3 minutes advantage. And then Jhon made good moves and he lost all his time advantage, that's why you have to think before playing, especially in Standard Chess.
Wow, John. I've been playing the French for many years, and as soon as you said that 7. Ngf3 isn't played because it essentially requires white to gambit a pawn, I thought "Nope, he's wrong" (which is not something I ever think while watching your videos). Went and checked my French Bible, John Watson's "Play the French", and, sure enough, Ngf3 is one of the main moves listed there. However, 7...Qb6 isn't mentioned in the text, which I found odd. So I checked database.chessbase.com/js/apps/database/ and, sure enough, there's Qb6 as one of the top moves. Maybe that's only become more popular in recent years, since "Play The French" was updated?
+Andrew Wagner Hey, Andrew! Yes, 7.Ngf3 is certainly possible, although I feel many players play this move without understanding the difference between placing the kingside on e2 and f3. I had a look at my database: over 20,000 games with 7.Ne2, and ~2,500 with 7.Ngf3, which is a pretty huge disparity. That's very strange that Watson would not mention 7...Qb6!
It was a great lesson. To me it seemed like black didn't understand the position and lacked a clear plan or purpose. While John improved his pieces and built up king side pressure black floundered and made simple one move threats or aimlessly shuffled his queenside. John ripped black's kingside open and put on a clinic.
+Tremendous Sax That's an accurate description of what happened. It felt like Black spent too much time on wishy-washy moves that didn't address the looming kingside threats.
+Shawn Wilson Tibor is correct: I was listening to the Jimmy Buffett song "Fins" when I made the account. Not a very deep story, hey - I'm stuck with it now ;)
The new thumbnail is great, can't wait to see the others
+AlphaStrike Thanks for your positive feedback, AlphaStrike!

Some of my favorite lines in the French are the Ne2 Tarrasch :)

Really threw this one out of the park with your attack.
