    Thanks! Was doing my 2002 Explorer Sport (same motor) and when I realized I wasn't going to be able to get past that fuel line, I Googled it and found your video. You specifically addressed that issue. The job is now done and my oil leak is fixed, thanks in part to your video.

    Five years later and people like me are still learning tips and tricks. Thanks from a bloke in Australia who is replacing a bunch of stuff on one of these engines that lives in an 05 Ford Courier (Mazda Bravo?). We imported them from South Africa apparently. It's a hi-lift 4x2 crew cab with an aluminium tray. I'm replacing the thermostat housing with an aluminium one, putting in a new water pump, and replacing all the seals other than the head gaskets. The valve cover seals on mine were really brittle when I removed them. I'm assuming original parts.

    What about the coolant lines that are attached to the back of the valve cover by the firewall. Looks like urs was broke off. That could of been part of the slight oil leak. The bigger tube is part of the pcv system I believe. What you do is pull the thick hose off CAREFULLY (it can break right out of the valve cover)... then carefully twist the plastic pipe coming out of the valve cover counter clockwidlse. It twists right out. Coolant lines stay attached to it. Seen it in another video. Thanks for rthe great video though!!! Helped me a good bit!!

    There are six bolts per valve cover and some of them are longer than others. Does it matter if they are not located the same? I mixed my bolts up when removing and dont know where the long ones go versus the short ones. Anyone know where they go? Also, a trick i just learned to remove egr nuts is to use a pneumatic chisel/hammer to hit the side of the nut that loosens it. Works in 10 seconds.

      @rustyshackleford1656 7 лет назад +1

      1crazynordlander trust me the 5.4 was far from the best thing ford ever made that thing was known for spark plug holes getting stripped out and head gasket problems it was only decent after they fixed its flaws years later

    • @MikeSully01
      @MikeSully01 6 лет назад

      I've heard horror stories about the 5.4, but most of the time it comes down to how they're taken care of. My grandfather had one in his f150 that lasted forever with no major issues. The 4.0 in my ranger has 207,000 on it, and it's still running strong, never rebuilt, and the original transmissionwhich has also never been rebuilt, although I think the transmission is getting close to needing some work. I would absolutely buy another 4.0.

    • @matt-jv8gh
      @matt-jv8gh 6 лет назад

      the auto transmissions in the rangers have a pretty common problem with a servo pin wearing out the case of the transmission, i lost reverse in my ranger at about 215k due to that issue. going with a 302 swap in the winter though, as good as the 4.0 is it's just too underpowered for my taste

      @@mikeisaac3826 thank you for clearing that up. I never use sealer on a rubber gasket, but always wondered about the valve covers.

      @@mikeisaac3826 it depends on application you are talking about many manufacturers require you use RTV for a valve cover gasket and I met many technicians in the field that use it just to hold the gasket in place so it doesn't fall out of its perch at the same time you don't want to use too much just enough to hold a gasket in place so it doesn't fall out of alignment while installing valve cover also like on Honda on each side of the cams you're supposed to put a drop on each side every application is different

    I have a 2006 xlt ranger 4.0L. The drivers side valve cover cracked in the front where it curves from top down . But it’s just on the curve part. I noticed in your vid, that in same place as the “timing chain” ? Above that is where crack is. It sounds like rapping real loud, but engine is smooth when running, what would cause it to crack, could something have come loose or something. I get depressed when my horse is sick!!!

    • @motoforlyfe
