Thanks Ed, for your honesty and humbleness in admitting that you were wrong. When I watched you talking bad about the Takumi Sen 8 I thought “is he talking about the same shoe I’ve bought?”, ‘cause my impressions about the shoe were so different… I thought “maybe some people will not like this shoe as much as I did, but anyone who had the habit of running in racing flats, will be able to enjoy this new modern version of a type of shoe that in the past was used to race even the marathon distance”. And let’s admit: the shoe has a good look, is light and comfortable, something that the old racing flats in many cases have not. So, again, thank you for your honest and professional commentaries.
What I found in now 3 shoeoffs on my channel first vs NEXT% 2 then Adios Pro 2 and then the Prime X is that the Sen 8 is perfectly capable of getting up to your 5K/10K race pace and indeed there wasn't much in it between all of them - well as far as I went in each test which was up to about 5K in each shoe one after another at around 10K effort plus a shorter faster effort comparison in some of them. However I did feel that the reduced weight was cancelled by the much more "responsive" & "springy" feel of the "marathon" ones and I felt the longer I went (even in a 5K) the more I was preferring the marathon ones. Another factor is that all these shoes were really designed for elite runners. An elite marathoner is going way faster than most of us can even do one mile so stands to reason we can go well very over short distances in shoes you can race in for much longer. Another factor is just preference. I have seen many comments saying I don't like the soft high stack marathon racers. Well the Sen 8 is not as high nor is it as soft. It is rather a modern take on a racing flat. Compared to shoes I raced a marathon in just 6 years ago (Adios 1) this is both way lighter and more cushioned however. It's just compared to the current day marathon ones it "feels" like a flat.
I think people should stop wanting Al these plates in their shoes as they don't give you much Benifits carbon isn't springy.. why you think cyclists wear a padded short .. because their carbo. Bikes don't shock absorb.

Agree on the super shoes (or even next tier plated trainers like the NB TC or saucony endorphin speed) changing the way we run. While I think it there are benefits as they place more emphasis on calf strength, the feet and ankles can be left behind. I’ve been making a point to warmup in vibrams and some easy runs in altras to keep my feet “engaged”.

@@EDDBUD still unsure whether better than the Nikes for a 5k. Wore them for a parkrun and maybe not as propulsive, but I was grossly unfit so may have been a factor 😂
I' ve been loving this shoe for various speed sessions. It does alright in the Warmups and Cooldowns but really shines when you put some pressure into the forefoot. Also interested in your updated views on the Boston 10s.
Interesting, ive found some shoes work better than others for forefoot strikes. I'm always puzzled at the huge spongey heels on some that i find redundant and then a frontend that feels stiff and deadening.
I already subscribed a long time ago, otherwise I would subscribe again! Great thoughts and feedback on the shoe! It's one that I would love to get my feet in and give it a go!
Interesting, reminds me of your review of the Adios Pro v1 that you didn't like initially ;-). I really love the TS8, bouncy but not mushy at all. Actually I prefer it over the Deviate Nitro Elite and I wouldn't hesitate to run a half marathon in the TS8.
@@EDDBUD actually Ed, you warmed up a bit to the Invincibles too I remember! It’s always interesting to be following you on your running journey! My two fav shoes of 2021 finally received some kudos 😊
I see the Adidas posse finally influenced you (haha). Funny how a few runs in a shoe can change an opinion, or the weather affects the enjoyment. I’m hoping this show is a proper Nike Peg Turbo 2 replacement
Had a darn good run in the metaspeed sky today. That thing seemed to glue to my feet and disappear after a while. Had a drastic effect on my stride too, same as the sen 8.
Just taken delivery of the adios 6. Hoping to settle it in over the next few days purely inside while I decide whether I should return it or not. Going to be using it for purely racing in. Tried out a couple of carbon plated shoes a few weeks ago in a shop and didn't think I could justify paying such prices when I didn't feel like they were any different. Only been running just over a year so perhaps I'll grow into the carbon racer eventually.
Hi Edd in a total dilemma bout these!! I'm in need of a new shoes and currently looking at the Adios Pro 2 or Sen 8. Like you im looking to get under that sub 1:30hrs for the half and wonder which one of these shoes would better fit the bill?
The sen feel lighter on foot. But the extra foam from the pro 2 could be really useful depending on your build. The sen is a tighter more race flat like fit.
Good to hear that others aren't afraid to experiment with insoles..I always add a 1/2 insole(heel part) in any of my shoes that are too low drop..it makes them all faster and get me up on my toes more..example is my new alphafly's..changing the drop from 4mm to more like 7mm makes it a faster ride and much easier on your legs and hips..same with the tempo next % except I put the front 1/2 of same insole to change the drop from 10mm down to 7mm..it takes the harshness out of the forefoot and takes the pressure off my knees and hips..the 1st asics nova blast was 10mm drop and felt good for speed but it was a killer on knees and IT and calves..I also find that certain companies insoles are much better than others..some have great step in feel but a few miles later the are only keeping your socks clean or worse they get ehot on bottom of your foot..then within 40-50 mi they are useless..I have never found one(in 52yrs of running)that will hold up .. the saucony line is the best and I buy the cheapest,on sale, model to get the insoles then send the shoe itself out to the Philippines for kids with no shoes..cos even our cheap shoes are years ahead of a flip flop..even the crazy expensive aftermarket insoles are junk..I finally have come to the same conclusion as Tim Grose ..why use anything other than the best shoe..if you like the feel, ride, cushioning and speed why use a slower, stiff, heavy uncomfortable shoe for all your running? There are a couple of exceptions like the acics magic speed and the skechers razor line..hopefully there will be some more good stuff this year..
What it offers over the Next% and similar is a potential alternative for those of us who haven’t gotten along (yet?) with the stiff roll geometry & perhaps the extremely big stack height. It actually flexes. I’m waiting to see if I can find it in a store to try on (sizing questions since it’s unisex). I’m so light and have such a high cadence in any shoe that it just may be worthy for me up to HM at least. But I’d also like to compare it to the upcoming NB Pacer & who know when that comes out? What a dilemma.
Would be interested to hear how you insole experiment goes. Did half marathon distance in them recently and felt a bit of p.f. at the end. Going to try 'classic' air max tn air supports, if only to tell people of that interesting fact !!
For me this is 100% my 5km shoe of choice. Aiming for low 16 minute pace feels great in this shoe. For 10km I would choose Asics met sky over this one though.
And why not for 10k? I'm interested because Nike Vaporfly seems a panacea for all the distances and perhaps Takumi is nice since 5k to 21k. What I don't understand is why the carbon rods were not made to feel as stiff and fast on take-off as the Adios Pro. That could be the main flaw because the Lightstrike Pro and carbon Rods combination was very efficient. What I would give to see this shoe like this.
@@EDDBUD totally agree, until I'm running sub 5:30 pace then the shoe comes alive. Did some 200m reps at 4:30 pace and the shoe was awesome. Jogging around at 7 min mile pace the shoe gave me nothing
@@EDDBUD My dream and my intention was to use the Takumi in my next 10k, to see if at rates close to 3'10"/km they were as good as the Next. They should be even better, but that's where the question lies...
Great video Edd. I know the TS8 and the AAAP2 are quiet different shoes but do you think I should go for it if I have a almost new pair of AAAP2 for my speed work? Does it provide a different running experience compared to that shoe?
Used the adios pro 2 for my marathon training due to a hip issue. Thinking about purchasing these as replace the pro 2 during the training and then the pro 2 for the business end of training.... Are they a good option as the light strike really protects my hips
@@EDDBUD don't have the widest feet so they may suit. They are onsale in the US for $120 which is about €126 and have a friend heading that way for a shopping trip. €200 seems a mad price this side of the pond. The light strike is really the big sell for me but will their longevity be poor like their older brother the Adios Pro 2's
I’m glad Ed mentioned the possible health implications of using super cushioned shoes everyday. It’s something that certainly concerns me, as there are plenty studies suggesting that shoes that allow for poor running form can lead to various running injuries. Only time will tell what havoc (if any) super shoes will wreak. I do use Vaporfly for my A marathons, but I don’t use them in training.
I think the foam hides the form. Pure and simple. A firmer shoe, running at slower pace can really help to concentrate on the form and give time for the brain and rest of the body to start working together to make things a touch more efficient.
Hi, I have the adios pro 2's and also these. I went for a UK 11 in both models but found the sen 8 to be slightly bigger so I could gotten away with a UK 10.5. Because I was so excited to try them I ended up getting them dirty and can't send them back. Not good. I do really like both models though
Good video as always Edd! I myself really, really like the TS8. It's great at pace - for me 6:30 and quicker. But eager to try the Streakfly and SC Pacer! One thing on the TS8 - it needs stretchy laces!!! Switched the laces and it's now even better. At my weight I think it's a marathon contender (62kg race weight). Lovely shoe, shoddy laces - totally agree!
The weight of the runner is very important I feel to how well a shoe will perform. If I want to run a nice slow recovery or easy day I can throw on a heavier shoe and the job is done. 👍🏼
I'm sad as I may have to take the Magic Speed out of my rotation. Love the way it feels when running but theres something about the top of the heel that gives me blisters on my achilies, something no shoe I've run in has ever done (I've been very lucky and never had any foot issues). Oddly on my last run it also caused haematomas to form under two of my toes. Once I've raced my marathon in February I might see if I can get figure out why its causing issues but till then I don't think I can risk wearig it. Not sure what I'll replace it with, want a durable plated trainer for worouts an long tempos. Hoka's aren't durable enough and the magic speed isn't agreeing with me and other shoes are on the pricey side.
I’ve been thinking of getting a pair of Sen 8’s but have heard conflicting info on sizing. I have a size 9.5 US in the Adios 6 which gives me the perfect lockdown. What size would you recommend for the Sen 8’s? Thanks for the great content Edd.
How would it compare to the Puma Liberate? Both similar lightweight and Liberate is more affordable. If the rods on the Sen8 isn’t noticeable then it would be similar in 5k performance? 🤷
Did you find that the adios pro 2 promotes the foot landing/falling to the lateral side, while the sen 8 landing/falling to the medial side? Thats the case for me, and the sen 8 caused ankle pain that I have never had in any running shoe.
Hi there, what do you recommend for all versatile purpose in between the adios takumi sen 8, adios 6 and Boston 10? For 5k,10k and half marathon training and racing? I'm 66 kilograms and tend to run about 200kms per month.
@@EDDBUD thank you @eddbud. I also looked at the adizero Boston 10 as it has more lightstrike pro but the adios 6 is lighter and i have heard the adios 6 is what the Boston should have been lol. So I guess adios 6 is the winner between the Boston 10, takumi 8 and adios 6.
I saw another reviewer that showed the metrics on this shoe using some sort of a foot pod thingy and for him until he hit 6:29 per mile pace or faster the shoe was actually slower and less responsive than some others (Adios 6 etc...) so since I rarely see sub 6:29 pace any more Im passing on the Takumi but I do love they idea of it. Oh if I were younger.....
That’s a darn good question. Though the drop is lower the heel plate makes the shoe appear more of a drop than it is. Quite different upper feel and fit. Drastically different infact.
I like your sens of humour! I ll try too!!! To me they are actually changing the way we are running with pure assistance. As you said remind you AAA Battery lolll but the truth about this they are high heel shoe and do not like it . When i saw them in the market I rushed online and did get me 7 pairs of Takumi sen 7. They should have improve slightly the Takumi 7 and not fallowing new market stantard . RUN HARD NOT BATTERY OR EXTRA FOAM ....
After 100 miles in mine, it’s definitely my go to workout shoe. Light, fast, comfortable and I’ve taken it up to half marathon distance and feel great during and after the session. Definitely too expensive though. ☹️
Wonder if Seth will admit he's wrong? Have you seen his comments section for his review? The guys getting a lot of stick for his review. Rightly so in my opinion you can't call a 177 gram shoe heavy then not get pulled up on it.
Hey Roy. I hadn’t seen much about this. I rarely get to watch other videos these days. Time seems to get away from me! I certainly wouldn’t call a shoe of 177g heavy at all. If you consider the lightest in my collection is the run fast pro which is 128g. 177g is very light. It’s a pricey shoe but I like it. Just not at £170! 👍🏼
@@EDDBUD yeah a lot of people called him out on it. He also included other shoes to buy instead of it and all of them was heavier! Your pal Tim grose gave them most constructive criticism of him. Your Chanel was mentioned in a few peoples comments as an alternative to Seth theese days👍

Hang on....1997, best year for music!! 🤔🤣🤥🤥....It WAS a cracking pivotal paradigm shift of a year though! ...................... Previously I've never found an Adidas shoe that my feet loved before, but the Takumi Sen 8 just works for me, as a mid to forefoot striker, It feels more stable under foot especially with sudden changes in surface conditions such as road cambers and non smooth roads/paths. The Puma DNE is nimble and squishier and the Nike N%2 more propelling, but for me feels more unstable at pace if underfoot conditions suddenly change and makes me feel I have to run in a certain way (not completely unnatural ...but different) to make it work and I have to hold that foot strike.......... I think it's more versatile at different paces and foot strike options than the NN%2 Not quite as much as the PDNE, but more responsive to changes in pace....Love them!...BUT THOSE EYELETS!.........Anyway back to 1997!!.................
My musical talk was a little tongue in check ( some absolute dross round then too ) I remember feeling like i was going to collapse with the next% 2 on cobble stones. UK races are full of surprises!
Physics is physics though. The faster you go the more force you apply to the shoe. Sometimes the pace may be 90% for somebody, but it doesn't do anything for the shoe if it is too rigid, plated, too techy etc. Some shoes are indeed geared toward the pros - they could be, potentially, maybe not this one - just a comment folks! Peace!
I would like to try these…but the price is very high for such a niche shoe imo. I rather just spend the extra and get something crazy like the prime x 😈.
For me I regret buying a lot of the shoes ive bought. You really only need a good daily shoe that you can do imo both long runs and tempos training in. Then just need a shoe for racing and intervals. Really dont need any more than two shoes.
It's my new favorite. I would love to use it in a marathon (the squish is unbelievable), but it's a little unstable at times. Still an amazing shoe which makes the long runs feel effortless.
I think it's a little bit strange to give shoes points after if it's a good training shoe for a half marathon when the shoe is designed for a 5K / 10K race. And I don't think there is anything wrong with a shoe designed for a specific run. It doesn't make them less valuable. Well, not to me. I'm not going to run 100 5k races in a race shoe. But I might use it a few years as my short race shoe and then retire it to be my fast parkrun shoe! And I think I disagree a little on the drop. Is higher better? And is a high drop an aggressive drop? And what is a good drop for a 5K race? One could argue that you don't need such a high drop for a shorter race. If you do an all out sprint on the 400 meter you will most likely not use your heels. It's too slow! Some people think landing on heel is wrong. But we are all different. I'm a mid striker myself and I have had very good use of zero drop and low drop shoes. I have also run in high drop shoes. But I don't think I would wear those in a race. But many mid foot strikers will after a long run get tired and start to heel land. So perhaps a higher drop is OK for a marathon shoe. I know it was a long ramble and you don't need to give a detailed answer on all my points. But if you need some ideas for new content you could perhaps make an episode about the drop of running shoes. I encourage people to experiment a little and try out different kinds of shoes!
You’ve got stop covering AC/DC, it’s hell on the voice! 🤘. When are people going to get it that a higher pace (such as a 5k) is not a static number and is different for everyone. It’s an effort thing not a specific split thing.
I agree Matt. 5k pace for everyone is different. For me it will hit the spot, but I can’t run at those paces all that often. I’m not getting younger. 🤣
Adidas Adizero shoes seems to need a proper break-in period before they start to shine for a lot of people. Funny how individual running shoes are. For me as a heavier runner, I have learned the hard way to stay away from those hyped-up super soft shoes that many shoe-reviwers seem to love. My best shoes are Boston 10 and Magic speed, although I'm a really very slow runner, training at Maffetone levels. (and Tempo next% feels a lot better than Alphafly, but I have stopped buying Nike. Too bad quality for the price.)
Sent mine back. I can run just as fast in the AlphaFly, or faster. Even for a 5k. Running economy is running economy, regardless of shoe weight. Plenty of studies have shown this now. The shoe companies want us to buy a shoes for every distance or workout. And my wife is done with all that. 🤣
I hear you Jim! I think if i hammered out a 5k in the alphafly it would work pretty well despite the weight difference. Nike keep on rolling with those air units, since the 70's!
After 100 miles in mine, it’s definitely my go to workout shoe. Light, fast, comfortable and I’ve taken it up to half marathon distance and feel great during and after the session. Definitely too expensive though. ☹️

I' ve been loving this shoe for various speed sessions. It does alright in the Warmups and Cooldowns but really shines when you put some pressure into the forefoot.
Also interested in your updated views on the Boston 10s.
You know I am always honest with my views. The midsole is like a worn pair of jeans now.
Interesting, ive found some shoes work better than others for forefoot strikes. I'm always puzzled at the huge spongey heels on some that i find redundant and then a frontend that feels stiff and deadening.
Considering Boston 9 can be found at 25 earth credits on some websites, these are pretty expensive... and not available in Canada anyway.
Now that is a bargain!
What's the model of the red shoe in the background on the right? Looks dope AF!
I already subscribed a long time ago, otherwise I would subscribe again! Great thoughts and feedback on the shoe! It's one that I would love to get my feet in and give it a go!
Thanks for the sub!
Very true. That shoe still gave me my fastest half marathon time!
Agree with pace comment Edd! It feels great for me anywhere between 4:45 m/km to slow Kenyan shuffles up to 6:50 m/km

That Adios 4 was a superb shoe. Craft. Should have come in a wooden case. 😊
Adios 6 is still nice though.

@@EDDBUD I do! I had my first run in mine this morning. Felt nice doing cadence drills.
Hi Edd. Did you record the opening guitar riff for your intro music?
No but its pretty much exactly what i wanted! :)
It’s a great all round shoe. Very versatile.
@@EDDBUD I'm average/slim build if that helps. I also train for ultras as well. Don't race many 5k or 10k races tbh
Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing. Have your thoughts on the adios 6 changed?
Not really, still love that shoe for its all round enjoyment, versatility and price!
I'm planning to buy it tomorrow..
There are a couple of exceptions like the acics magic speed and the skechers razor line..hopefully there will be some more good stuff this year..
well done with the throat issue, as I said via strava .. honey and lemon (or the old warm water and salt)
It’s not too bad today. I do appreciate the suggestion 👍🏼🐝
I love these shoes. They nailed it. I am a tall guy. 6.3. Super happy
I have warmed up to them over time.
Good morning! Shim the 42 usually and in the nike runninh shoes the right number is the 43. In takumi sen the 42 serves?
It’s narrow so perhaps go up a half size 👍🏼
Would be interested to hear how you insole experiment goes. Did half marathon distance in them recently and felt a bit of p.f. at the end. Going to try 'classic' air max tn air supports, if only to tell people of that interesting fact !!
Sounds interesting! I remember those stick in arch supports. Infact i think theres some in my air max 3's from last year.
Will always tune in for a guy actually admitting he was wrong!! 😂😂
I do it most days Bev :)
The rods feel quite absent to me in the sen8.
@@EDDBUD It's a real shame because at that height it would have been a light and agile metaspeed sky.
More more heft to the AP2. More rigidity. I don’t see why they won’t work for speed. 👍🏼
@@EDDBUD thanks Edd 🙌🏻! I guess I'll save my pennies for another shoe then 👌🏻
Used the adios pro 2 for my marathon training due to a hip issue. Thinking about purchasing these as replace the pro 2 during the training and then the pro 2 for the business end of training.... Are they a good option as the light strike really protects my hips
The sen is a brilliant shoe. Quite the narrow feel though.
@@EDDBUD don't have the widest feet so they may suit. They are onsale in the US for $120 which is about €126 and have a friend heading that way for a shopping trip. €200 seems a mad price this side of the pond.
I went half size down for Takumi 8
Is that "external" outsole durable? 🤔🤔
Yes it’s superb! Lasts a good while
Would you pick TS8 over the AAP2 for 10k and 21k ?
Anyways thanks for the mention to the Adios 4. Those were great.
Quite different feel in those. Still prefer the smooth ride of the pro 2.
Did you manage to remove the insole? I may try too, but the glue is solid ;-)
Only to peek at the plate a little. It’s strong stuff for sure.
Hey Ed, which current Adidas shoes would you recommend for half / full marathon racing? Thanks.
Sen for up to 10k. Adios pro 2 for the half upwards.
@@EDDBUD Thanks! Leaning towards the Takumi Sen. I wonder how the Boston 10 or Adios 6 would fare in a half at cruising speeds.
That is sad to hear Garry. Best opt for the safer and more comfortable option for that Marathon.
Do you think pond £ Land should put a carbon shoe out?? The name PC1
Bit like the famed On "Roger pro" Still love the name of that shoe.
I’ve been thinking of getting a pair of Sen 8’s but have heard conflicting info on sizing. I have a size 9.5 US in the Adios 6 which gives me the perfect lockdown. What size would you recommend for the Sen 8’s? Thanks for the great content Edd.
Pretty much true to size for me.
I went down half a size, and it still more spacious than expected, feels only slightly smaller than my regular size, but not half a size.
@@patricksmit8887 agree 100% I did the same

How would it compare to the Puma Liberate? Both similar lightweight and Liberate is more affordable. If the rods on the Sen8 isn’t noticeable then it would be similar in 5k performance? 🤷
The sen 8 is a touch more forgiving. Over 5k all out i doubt theres all that much difference to me.
Can i use it as a daily trainer for 5k up to 10K at pace around 4:15-4:30 min/km (somewhere beetween 10K pace and HM pace)?
I see no reason why not, but the liberate nitro will do the same.
Did you find that the adios pro 2 promotes the foot landing/falling to the lateral side, while the sen 8 landing/falling to the medial side? Thats the case for me, and the sen 8 caused ankle pain that I have never had in any running shoe.
They feel quite different to me in almost all ways. The pro 2 is more compressive to me, perhaps due to the 2 layers of lightstrike pro.
Waa that a fucking goose call in the background when you said sings like a bird? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hi there, what do you recommend for all versatile purpose in between the adios takumi sen 8, adios 6 and Boston 10? For 5k,10k and half marathon training and racing? I'm 66 kilograms and tend to run about 200kms per month.
For versatility the Adios 6 is by far the best. Can do speed but also a good daily shoe.

For me I regret buying a lot of the shoes ive bought. You really only need a good daily shoe that you can do imo both long runs and tempos training in. Then just need a shoe for racing and intervals. Really dont need any more than two shoes.

Haven't tried the Sen 8 yet, but the Prime X is an amazing shoe👍
I had no expectation about the primex but i love it!
If anyone ( a supposed heel striker) runs barefoot on a hard surface, I'll bet 99% they don't land on their heels first.
I think you might be right!
Pound shop AA batteries 😂
Zinc carbon just don’t cut it.
I can see why you prefer the magic speed. firmer feel and does wonders for the form.
