This was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for posting this video. I have owned this printer for a bunch of years and never knew about this trick for connecting it to my home WiFi. I had always struggled to reconnect it to WiFI whenever the connection conked out for whatever reason.
Thank you, this was really helpful. This is a great printer btw. I've had it for years, and even though the cartridge is expensive it's lasts 2-3 years with at home use.
I ended up using an ancient USB cable just for the installation process, and it connected it to the network without issues. Now it works wirelessly. Ancient tech for the win!
If you press the button with pen longer than a second it prints the pin code, power down reset, all you need is to just click the button with pen, at least thats what worked on my second try, no long press!
Help n I've followed this successfully a couple of times but have recently changed providers and while all the steps are successful - the all important one - printing wirelessly doesn't.
Thank you very much for this video. It helped me connect my printer where in the past I had some problems. one thing to note on my printer when enabling WPS I was, pushing and holding the pen and nothing was happening. I figured out it just needs to be clicked once.
Got it to print the "Connection : OK" page but it still won't show up on my computer or anywhere as connected to the network to actually print. Anybody else encounter and resolve this?
Press the wireless setup button located at the back of the machine for less than 2 seconds. DO NOT press the button for 3 seconds or more, since the machine will change to the PIN Method of the Wi-Fi Protected Setup mode. To clear this mode, wait for 5 minutes or turn the printer power switch off and then turn it on again. After clearing this mode, press the wireless setup button and try from the step 1 again. support.brother.com/g/b/faqend.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl2270dw_all&faqid=faq00002037_011
Hello, Collegepicker! You promised to link to a video for those who don't have a WPS router (at 1:22). My new router (courtesy of Spectrum) has no WPS button/switch. I've been able to reconfigure my Brother 2270DW to the new router using a downloaded wizard from Brother, but I can't get it connected to the new LAN. I've used it for years with the old LAN (that included a WPS router), but now I'm stuck. Help!!
You saved me and our world from more e-waste. My wife almost bought a new printer, because the Wi-Fi connection was lost, and the printer is sitting in a room far from her WFH desk. Thank you, so much.
My router does NOT have a WPS button but does have WPS capabilities. When I hit the button on the printer, it printed out a page with an 8 digit pin. I am not sure where to go from here to connect the two?
I got the same page you did but it still doesn’t print and it says my printers offline. I’ve tried going to system preferences and printers to reset but nothing happens when I right click on it.
So I recently bought some generic TN450 toner for my Brother HL-2270DW, which I bought in 2011. I have been connecting via USB and when I swapped the cartridge it printed one page, then nothing. I have been troubleshooting for quite awhile. I followed your instructions and now its printing wirelessly on two MacBook Pro, but not on the USB, that just no longer works. One Mac is connected via wifi, the other is plugged into the router via cat5 and wifi is turned off, on that computer. Im glad its working but do not understand why the USB connection is no longer working. On one Mac I am sharing the printer on the network, on the other with the wired connection to the router, I have sharing set to off but it still works.
Took several attempts but Drum started flashing; however, it then printed WI-FI Protected Setup 8 digit pin code and then connection failed printed. Been trying to find/search next steps. Any thoughts? I did get a new router about two weeks ago; all other devices connected successfully; now trying to connect my Brother HL2270DW. Tried via Brother software--failed also. TY
Actually, it helped until the printer printed a pincode, which I don’t know where to enter. I tried to find it in device management on an attached pc but can’t find any instructions.
From Mr95Kenny in a nested comment below: if your printer prints a "wi-fi protected setup" pin code: "If you press the button with pen longer than a second it prints the pin code, power down reset, all you need is to just click the button with pen, at least thats what worked on my second try, no long press!"
Thanks I don't know what a router is? Would u know how I could connect this with my Android phone. I need to take am email off my phone. Amy suggestions would be great. Thanks
I have had this printer for years and have NEVER been able to figure out how to set it up. We have a Router from our Internet provider and it does not have that button.. and it is supposed to be the nicest router they had ..
this has been helpful...however once I configured the printer it spit out "PIN CODE"...now I'm stuck...I dont know where the setup wizard is to input this 8 digit code...if anyone knows please advise
fyi update: i got to print wirelessly but letting everyone know i went and downloaded the "brother" printer wizard and set it up that way..tbh i was throwin ish against wall and got something to work eventually....i did NOT end up using the "pin code"...anyone have questions lemme know

It printed out that "Connection: Failed (Error:TS-07)" It says my machine cannot detect a WLAN access point/router that has WPS or AOSS enabled even though I clicked the WPS button on the router and then clicked back printer button like you did???
Just don’t press the pen into back of printer too long, or it will print password, which who knows what to do with. After I got it right, the printer printed a report saying it was connected. But I still can’t print from my wi-fi-connected phone to the supposedly wi-fi-connected printer🤷🏽♂️
Thank you so much! The setup was so complicated and I couldn't get it to work before I saw you video. Thumbs up!
I've had this printer for a few years and FINALLY, thanks to this video I have the wireless printing set up! Great video!
You are welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this video. This printer type was donated to me with no instructions on how to set up. Thanks a million.

Thank you sir! This was such an easier way then what Brother first had me do! I appreciate your help! God bless 😊
Great stuff......have had this printer for ages & every time it goes of line I'm bamboozled !!!

You are very welcome. I was so lost before I figured this one out.
Cartridge is expensive? You can get a new 3rd party drum & toner for about $15 on ebay.
I didn't expect it to work. But it worked perfectly. Quick and easy! Thanks~
Glad it helped!
What if the printer prints out a wifi protected setup with a pin code?
Did you figure this out? Having this problem too.
I get a pin number too

Same here. Everything looks like the video on my printer. But when I go to print, the Brother Printsetup says "Printer offline".

it went to error and a paper printer out saying connection failed

most routers no longer have WPS buttons
hey sent me pin code why? thank you
you need to add a new device and when it sees the printer click and will have a place to had the code.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup
Doesn't work, tried twice. Router is a Comcast Arris TG1682G
I believe Comcast routers block WPS, or possibly it doesn't have a 2.4ghz band.
@@thecollegepicker Definitely has 2.4GHz band. Not sure why it might block WPS, it has the button and the firmware supports the feature
It's possible they turned it off in settings for security reasons.
