- The John Deere was losing oil around the wheel seal and had some play in the wheel as well. Decided to replace the bearings and seals to make this side like new! hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

I have a leaking wheel seal on my JD755 as well so I saved this video. I have fixed the leak with a piece of cardboard on the floor and that has been working for now. When I run out of cardboard I will revisit this video for a proper repair. Oh, and that FB group is great BTW!

You are a pretty good "shade tree technician"~~~~! The front axle is certainly a beefy bunch of castings. The front spindle assem on my Kubota is similar but fewer number of parts, at least as I saw it. I had to replace the seal on the bevel gear housing. It had a metal flange that pressed up and the oil seal slipped over that. I fixed it the next time it started leaking with, wait for it, Barrs Stop Leak. It worked like a charm. Sloppy assembly the first time probably caused the leak the second time. $57.-- from Messicks or Kubota.

You say you aren’t a mechanic. Looked like you were doing a pretty good job of mechanic to me. You fixed you truck, the 755, and the Kubota of DP. Love the channel.
Great How To on this one, I like the methodical tear down and stacking parts, you give good advice, with the manual and even a FB group to check out! I had a guy give me a Polaris Ranger instead of cash for some paint work I did recently it will be a "will it run" video on my channel, cause right now it doesn't.... Glad to see your little helper running in the background keep the shiny side up!

Adding a cup / cup and a half of Lucas oil honey to each gear assembly adds more life to the bearings and seals. Great added to tractor axles too.🧐👍
Next time you work with press in bearings, put the bearing in freezer over night and at install ever so slightly warm up the hub with a torch and drop the frozen bearing in place. Magic!

Right near the end I noticed the discoloration on your hands caused by good greasy work, wouldn't mind seeing your particular secrets to getting clean hands afterwards...long ago I had to repair some boat trailer wheel bearings roadside, I discovered how effective available gravel and ditch water could be, not sparkling clean but I could drive without contaminating everything..now my favorite is simply antibacterial soap and a very small amount of dried sand,works great for me.
I use wet hands and undiluted Dawn dish soap (May dry out skin, though!)

I'm sure that "launch" of a snap-ring was just to make the rest of us feel better when you'd gotten the others out with no problem. Congratulations on using fewer bad words than me when I replaced the bearings on the front wheel one of the tractors last year. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t own a JD tractor but do have a 100 series Lawnmower. Great content
Well, it didn't fall off.....so nice work! A tip that I have found useful when taking apart assemblies like that. Line up each old part as you take them out/off along the work surface. Each part facing up as it was in the assembly (that is if it doesn't go flying before you know which way us up!!). If you have space after its apart, lay out the new parts just below the others in their order. Then you know if you have everything, the orientation and order to be replaced!
I'll bet you're glad to get the tractor up and going again. You use it a lot on your property. Job well done! Have a great week!

I'm a little bit late too the party. Just came home from our holiday home. My wife said, "We are just going for 2 or 3 days". So I left my computer at home. Over a week later, we are back. I should have known when she told me to put our Cat in it's transport cage. Next time I don't care if we are going for one day, my lap top is going with me! (Now i have too go through over a week's worth of emails, FFS.☹).

I was getting a little concerned that the snap rings weren’t behaving as snap rings are supposed to and then all concerns were gone when the first one popped off the pliers and everything was normal again.
Shop manuals are awesome. Years ago I spent the money on a shop manual for the ‘89 VW Jetta that was my first brand new car. The manual turned out to be an awesome investment. Especially when I got married and we bought our first house and money was a little tight.
Good morning Captain Kleeman. We had a 2007 Deere 4600 at work and the front axle was the same design just bigger.
I recently did the same job on my Kubota and though the green and orange machines are completely different they’re remarkably similar..if that makes sense..lol? This was a great tutorial on the process for sure , I bet the compact JD guys find this very useful.

I think you did one heck of a good job on that repair, just a little tip, you should clean the Rims up on it and Paint them before they Rust-through.

Cap’n, that was a perfect illustration of why they call them snap rings. It is a fact, just holding one will cause it to snap and fling itself to the farthest and most inaccessible corner of the shop!
I try my best to be a faithful and supportive fan. Honestly, I do. But Cap’n, I have a confession to make.
On your videos I allow all ads to run complete. I don’t know how that serves the super secret algorithm… but, it can’t hurt. Right?
Well, last Thursday I decided to click on one of the ads to try to put a little more revenue into the YT Yacht funds. While it was running, I went to let in the cat and freshen up my coffee. Upon my return, the ad was about half done and the lady with the sultry voice was describing the third step (of five) in the top secret gut flushing magic cure for what ails you. So, I let it run.
Her well enunciated and svelte tongued speech made it pleasant to listen to her gastric cleansing secrets… the ones that made Liquid Plumber, X-Lax and all other fecal flushing agents not only obsolete but do so, totally organic!!!
Then, it got to step number 5…
Step 5, “Click here for the key to unlocking your bowels and starting your journey to complete digestive freedom.”
Well Cap’n, I’d hung with her through the cat entrance, coffee refill and points 3 & 4. I wasn’t about to give up on my search for the top secret trek to organic gut flushing ecstasy. So, I clicked on the link.
That link took me to a 33 minute video that featured a middle aged guy with glasses, a lab coat and a stethoscope. All signs that years of TV commercials have taught me, “He’s a doctor!” I decided to listen in and see if he was going to reveal the secret.
His spiel was a short reiteration of the lady’s commentary on abdominal pestilence and the evils of traditional medicinal cures. But, after five minutes in, he hadn’t even started listing the first of the five secrets… if you add to that, his voice was not half as seductive as the lady in the first ad… and the understanding that I rarely if ever feel irregularities in my intestinal tract…. well Cap’n I have to confess… I baled on the ad, clicked ‘Skip Ad’ and returned to your video. I apologize for that.
I never did learn the super secret step five. Nor, did I follow the advice of the stethoscope equipped official doctor who was concerned about the cleanliness of my fecal tract. But, I did flip a fork into the YT algorithm! Since last Thursday, nary a video goes by that I don’t get a pop up about poop!
That is cool… but it is getting a bit redundant. So today, I decided to see if I couldn’t get a little variety in my Cap’n K support program. Ad 2 of 2 was for a revolutionary new bra! One that provides support without wires, eliminates shoulder strap embarrassment and has absolutely no side bulge. I thought what the heck… I’ve learned about all that I cared to know about the causes and super secret cures for pestilence in my gut. But, about the tyranny of the underwire bra…. That is a whole new universe of human suffering about which I didn’t have a clue!!!
So Cap’n, I clicked on the ad. And, you’ll be happy to learn that it conjures up much more pleasant thoughts than the dark, recesses of my intestines. And in 9 different colors too.
I’ll know in just a few moments if I put a fork in the road for the algorithm. My next lesson in chest containment may be when I click on Neil’s Sunday offering.
Hopefully, my never ending quest for knowledge through watching ads and steering the YT algorithms will result in a few cents of support toward getting that floor poured!

Great video Cap'n Mike. I'm 60 years old and like most, I believe in doing my own repairs to save a buck. I have learnt a lot of times if you go FB or RUclips you can fix almost anything. Just like you said about the tractor forum. You did a great job, and look at the thousands you probably saved by doing it yourself. I'd love to find one of these 755 or 855 John Deere tractors. I have a 2018 model 3025 E that is the most wimpy tractor J.D. ever made. Very weak hydraulics. The loader struggles lifting 500 #s. 600 lbs. is outta lift. Won't pick up a bucket load of gravel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

It's wonderful having, or having access TO the right tools for a job. I had to replace the axle bearings on a '69 Cutlass and didn't have a snap ring tool OR a proper press, fun was NOT an adjective used that day and the air was VERY blue in the garage!

If you can find it try 3m brake cleaner. Its cleans parts faster with less fluid. Little expensive but worth the cost.

Captain, I hope it didn’t take too long to find those flying snap rings!😂😂A perfect reason to wear eye protection.
Hey Kaptain, little tip next time you're removing a seal sleeve like that at 10:45, is take a wide chisel, blunt the tip, and drive straight in towards the shaft center a few times in different spots around the shaft. It will stretch the sleeve out and should come off easily by hand. Just don't go overboard with the hammer. Simple 16 or 18 oz ball peen will do just fine. It won't damage the shaft if you're careful about hammer blows and chisel placement. I do the same thing often on wheel seals on big trucks.

Fine job Captain. Having a manual sure makes things easier. Well, I don't know by how much, but at least you can see what it's basically supposed to look like.
