We show you a tour of never before seen photos sent to use of the ORIGINAL home here on our abandoned home acreage. We learned that this home is actually 122 years old! Not built in 1920. We are working on renovating this abandoned home and are learning all about it along the way!

I was also questioning the age you were told. I have an architecture background and know that the Mansard roof is a huge give away, they were popular from about 1850-1890 after that they fell quickly out of style. The same goes for the tin on the ceiling and walls. So glad to hear you found this out because the architecture speaks for itself. Can't wait to see how you bring this place back to life!

How cool! My late husband and I bought in a house built in 1842. I wanted a new house and refused to look at this one even though it seemed wonderful from the street. My realtor offered to buy me lunch if I looked at it, so I went. I walked in, knew at once where we'd put the Christmas tree and then called my husband and said we were moving. Enjoy!

I'm so glad you found out the age of the house! I was one of those people who commented that I believed the house was built in 1880s or 90s. The wood work was a perfect match to my grandparents' house that was built in 1890. That is such a great find! And the ship's wheel and the information about the captain, all that is so much fun! Now you have all kinds of exploring to do to find out more about the family who originally lived in the house. Good luck!

I love the ship’s wheel it’s so cool ! My friend has a cabin that she had built from things that were from her land and things that people gave her over the years and things that she just found here and there . Her back yard is literally the river and it’s beautiful there . She didn’t have electricity until recently and she’s also had a well dug and has it pumped out for her to use and she uses solar panels for her electric and she just recently had those put in and she loves it and I love it too . She named it “the healing place “ because if you have any problems that you want to either forget about or to just be alone with your thoughts it’s the perfect place for that . She welcomes all kinds of people and they love it there it’s amazing ! Y’all have done an amazing job with your home already and I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for the future it’s so beautiful !

I and all my sisters used to clap our hands loudly all the way going down the basement stairs to warn the spiders we were coming and scare them away. 😂😂 That went on for 20 years. A family tradition! It always made Daddy laugh.
Now I clap going into the backyard at night to warn WHATEVER is out there “I’m coming out here. Vacate the zone, please!!” and The Drummer laughs.

That age of 1899 for the house makes complete sense. I recognised features from my 1902 Victorian house in London - stair design/mouldings/fireplaces etc. You should check out UK interiors magazines for inspiration as so much of London's housing stock is Victorian, so new ideas on blending styles are easy to find.

I'm loving your channel even more. I started watching you months before the shutdown over a year ago because I was interested in your Trash to Treasure DIYs. Now I think of your new adventure with buying this old house with acres of fun for the boys as th ultimate Trash to Treasure DIY! I look forward to every update. Love the blue and white foyer and the deck too. I would start with the livingroom in my opinion. Philip had a valid point about the kitchen not being done. (BTW, as a personal side note, my husband and I were homeless for 3 and a half years when we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, even though I worked full time and he had his retirement. We spent quite a bit of time staying in cheap motel rooms without a kitchen. We learned how to cook good meals with an electric skillet, a crockpot, a rice cooker, and a toaster. There was a microwave and a small refrigerator in most of the rooms. It saved us a ton of money to cook our own food as opposed to eating fastfood out of convenience. I'm sure you are quite capable of making great meals without a full kitchen. soon you'll have your kitchen done and back to normal.) As for a name, I like English in the name, because it's yours. Not sure which you prefer English Estate, English Manor, English Quarters, English Homestead, or something else. You deserve to have your family's name in the title. Can't wait for the next video!

Love the history of the house you could keep a history of the house book which stays with the house - we have started one during lockdown we bought our house and were told it was built 1870s then found out it was 1801 and then the older part was actually built in 1641 (we found original drawings of the house on line) and what was amazing the family who built the original structure of oak (its still intact) the Zumpa family and then the next family bought it in the 1700s the Bretschneider's still lived in it until 1980s. The house was built under the Saxon Kingdom then it became Austrian then German then DDR and back again to Germany. Our house is Denkmalschutz a protected monument so is a labour of love and hunting original pieces to make it our home. Enjoy the process of bring your lovely house back to life.
