James Stewart is my second favorite Classic Hollywood actor, after Cary Grant. But they are close for me....!!! When I was in my teens in the 1980's (1985) I wrote a letter to him and asked if he would send me a photo with signature. Told him that he was one of the four favorite actors, Cary, James Gregory Peck and Rock Hudson and that I like his movies very much, great actor who could play every role........ I thought that I would not hear enything from him. Live in the far Netherlands. But on one day I became post from the USA, with a enveloppe and I get a beautiful photo with signature from him. I was so over te moon with it so very glad with it. Thanks mr. James Stewart. After 38 years I have still his photo with signature and still very happy with it......❤😊
Gregory Peck’s voice….oh Lawd!
That is the best! You are so lucky! It is hard for me to pick my fave between cary grant and james stewart.
AFI biggest stars ever had Grant at 2 and Stewart at 3 . That’s quite an accomplishment. Jimmy was my favorite but Grant was also so good .
James Stewart was my favorite movie star.
Same.
Stewart ended the war with 20 combat missions. He remained in the USAF Reserve and was promoted to brigadier general on July 23, 1959. He retired on May 31, 1968.
Stewart entered the Air Force Reserve and retired after 27 years of service with the rank of major general, the highest-ranking Hollywood actor to serve in uniform.
That's truly Amazing
AWESOME!
What a wonderful man to serve his country with such valor and for such a long career !! 🎖
He was amazing! A true American hero.
Jimmy's voice is still so distinctive 😁❤️
Loved seeing James and his wife on password...so wonderful!!
Jimmy and Gloria are so good at Password.
Jimmy should have simply said "Satan" and probably would have had it in one try. 🤷♀️
This is completely charming!!
HYSTERICAL!!!!!! Laughed so hard pounded on the chair-I bruised the furniture!!!
“Same word...new clue,” - Allen, “HELL.” - Jimmy (As if he’s saying “oh Hell!” 😂😂😂). Love the little smile Jimmy cracks after saying it again! 😁
Miss these much simpler times!
Do you have ANY idea what was going on then? Edit--maybe this will give you a clue:
Try listening to Barry MGuire's song Eve of Destruction about a world on the brink.

Jimmy's reaction to "Organ" was hysterical!
This gets better and better every time you watch!🤣 From Jimmy saying "Hell", and Allen saying "WHAT?? Then Stanley replying "Fire"! Then the Rooster answer and Allen's "ROOSTER HA HA"🤣 Then Allen ignores the poor lady when she was saying she had two small daughters, then to top it off Allen about to call Gloria Jimmy's daughter! Gloria "Daughter, that's right"🤣 Jimmy then laughing once he realises what was said! This is comedy gold🤣🤣
Allen didn’t seem as well disposed towards the women as he was towards the men.
They sure had a lot of contestants coming and going...
I love the host! Hilarious when he says 'ROOSTER!!' 😂😂 after the poor contestant can't guess the word is devil!
Wow, 7 days after I was born! Jimmy was so humble, what a great man.
Allen Ludden: “Hi doll!” To new wife, Betty White Ludden! Married almost 1 yr! Sweet! Love it!
Heard it sooo sweet
Just watched an episode from 1980, and he still said it. So cute! 😍
In the Password Plus shows, he said it was to his mother in law. He said that before he met Betty, when her mom would see him on TV, her mom would say, "He's such a doll." So he started calling her Doll, and said hi to her, nearly every episode. So heartwarming.
Actually, he was saying "Hi doll" to Betty's mom.
Jimmy Stewart….one of THE GREATS! What a time to be alive!
Love this! Thank you for sharing and remembering yesteryear.
The Stewarts are always delightful. Consistent high scores, too. Well, until that fourth game!
*the word “devil” comes up.”
Jimmy: hell.
Soldier: fire.
Jimmy: no, the fella. The manager with the long tail.
I never laughed so hard 😂😂
That was hysterical! 😅
I wonder if Lucifer could have helped !? 👹
Love Jimmy!
Jimmy Stewart is really funny in this episode. A total legend.
May I call you Gloria... slight hesitation... yes.
I wonder why..😳
James Stewart was one of the greatest.
Have you ever noticed that when Alan Ludden always comes on he always says, "Hello Doll"?
Hi 🙂✌🌅🌐 ..I think he was giving a "Hello Doll !" to his future wife💍 - Betty White - She was in the studio audience often - Usually in the first row - Sometimes during the opening credits , She can be seen - Smiling and applauding💕❤💞 her Future Husband...🙂👍💕❤💞💟...👍✌🌝🌅💨
J Mason I believe you’re right! They were coming up on their first anniversary I thought he said on June 14. Unless that was the last 1 I saw.

It was this one. 💞
He always said "Hello doll" to Betty's mom.
Bern Bennett is the announcer. He was doing The Danny Kaye Show at this time. 0:43
"Rooster. Stop the clock!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Funny how he guessed ostrich from the clues " bird" and "Australian"! Never heard of an Australian ostrich!😅
The officer looks so much like my Dad who was in the army from 58-63. He went to med school & became a doctor after he was discharged. He passed away last year 😢
Sorry for your loss.
Great actor. 😊
Go USAF !!!! Love you guys!! ❤❤
Actually, I thought he said that to Betty White's mother.
That’s correct
Yes, that's right. He explained it on Password Plus.
Everyone is so dressed up. Great time for television.
that's my mom!
She played really well! Did she have stories to tell about meeting Jimmy Stewart?
😮
The second female contestant was Carol Willick. That's the name of Ross Geller's first wife on Friends.
funny how little money the contestants won in those days. I'm also laughing at the mickey mouse pop up words for the lightening round. I wonder if there is a word changing person in the desk switching out the clues? Too funny
I looked it up: "$100 in 1964 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $992.49 today"
The ostrich is NOT an Australian bird, that would be the Emu.
I remember seeing an episode where "Chicken" was guessed when the word was supposed to be "Chief", and now here we have "Rooster" guessed when the word was acutally "Devil", hahaha... Those poor fowl, getting mixed up in roles where they don't belong!
I guess it goes without saying but for "Devil" you could have done that opposite thing with the word "Angel" or even "God" and then "Opposite." OR… Could have used its synonym: "Lucifer!"
Satan
@@kayhansel6443 bingo, Kay - perfecto!
Love james steward no one like him
Satan would have been the easiest clue.
@@carollund8251 I totally agree!
An hilarious episode. Umm.. umm. Table!
I would have said "Satan" for 'Devil'.
Me too. Funny he didn't think of that.
My mom used to say & sign her name Mrs. my father's full name. Never using her name Mary. Same with Mrs. James Stewart. Glad this is no longer done. Married women have come a long way since the 1960's.
sounds like a different voice introducing the word.
12:22 THE WHOLE ROUND WAS HILARIOUS 😂
Challenge: Ostriches are African. Emus are Australian.
Got to know your partner...Australia worked.
In Password, the object is to get your partner to say the word, even if it's not factually correct. That's why homonyms are perfectly acceptable.
Would have been funny if at 22:04 Stewart repeated what Ludden said just a little earlier… "Hold onto your clock!"… Sorry I know it's a family show :-)
Seems
J.Steward worked fast on scripts only.💗
LOL.LOL.LOL.
“Shoe”….”LEOPARD”!….WHAT??!!
Mine is John Wayne Jimmy Stewart Dean Martin Cary grant
I realize it was a sign of the times - and I adore Allen Ludden- but every wife on the show was only recognized for what her husband did or accomplished - even Gloria Stewart.
I noticed that, too. I've always cringed when a woman was called "Mrs (husband's name)" even back when it was commonplace.
Oh for gods sake take your pronouns and feminism and crap this was a much better time its the things your talking about that has us in the mess we are in. They were married forever
They were vetted before appearing on the show. If the woman neither worked nor was enrolled as a student, and also had no children, Allen Ludden was to ask about her husband.
@@sparkleplenty5829 Thank you for sharing that info! I'd like to research it as I enjoy these 'oldies'. Where did you find it?
@@susanh6877 Thanks for your response, Susan! I enjoy these oldies because I actually grew up with them. (I was 15 in 1963 and actually wrote to CBS back then to ask about their approach to asking the personal questions.)
Wow- Allen asking the contestant not about herself, just asks “what does your HUSBAND do?” Then immediately asks the other new contestant what HE does. Sexist much????
Allen asked Jimmy's first partner, a woman, what she does. (She was a high school English teacher.)
They do have notes in advance. Maybe hearing "homemaker" over & over was considered boring tv.
They were vetted before appearing on the show. If the woman neither worked nor was enrolled as a student, and also had no children, Allen Ludden was to ask about her husband.
How funny that the women players are all presumed to be housewives. Different time. Grateful for the fact that my grandmother had a career during that time.

@@sparkleplenty5829 Makes sense. After watching some more episodes I realized that. But he was still very condescending with the women. Anyway, different time.
Yes, very different times. I was 15 in 1963/64 and watched these shows as a kid! I see the huge difference today, of course....also in the diction of most participants. Clearer, more precise English and - hurray - the overuse of the word "like" did not yet exist!

The Rascals with freckles
Stewart was only interested in getting laughs. The contestants lost out. Not fair
Later player with Gloria has an ill-fitting suit
You might call it "SNUG."
Oh, the days when women assumed the identity of their husband.

She’s wearing a cancer wig😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How crude! Gloria Stewart died of lung cancer....years later.
