Nice to see younger people appreciating this show.
This really was one of the best of the episodes of this show; it was obvious what good friends these people were to have such comradery together.
I could not agree more. Great episode.
Just 43 days before the JFK assassination. Peter Lawford was his brother-in-law.
The best games of this period were like seeing celebrities we knew playing after dinner games at their own homes.
I love this game show.. they just don’t make them like this now. I’m 34 and there are brilliant videos 😍
Doggone it...Allen Ludden WAS Password! He really was the best host of this show! Period!
He was as smooth as glass. Never got ruffled. Always in control. He answered only to the "Encyclopedic Dictionary" guy. I think it was J. Allen Hynek. 😮
@@jlucasound …THAT tidbit I think I could safely say very few of us knew! Hm - the ‘dictionary guy’! If we knew who that was for JEOPARDY!, that would be a real find…
This show right here…along with WHAT’S MY LINE? Two wonderful class acts by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman…
Password and What's My Line are my personal favourites as well! I would've loved to see Dorothy, Arlene, Bennett, and John playing Password together, just like in this episode... I wonder if John Daly would even be able to contain his clues to just one word, haha!
I watched What's My Line and To Tell the Truth for the first time 3 or 4 years ago. They QUICKLY became 2 of my favorites!
I like Match Game, but I love Password even more, because it's rated G (Match Game, in later seasons is NOT rated G)
(It's not rated R, but it's definitely not rated G either)
This is as close as we got to a Rat Pack episode.......
Love these four
RIP to all. What a fabulous bunch.
They are having entirely too much fun! I love it!
Janet was gorgeous 🥰
Janet Leigh was drop dead gorgeous.
As Marion Crane in Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie "PSYCHO" 1960.
OMG I was 3 years old... And Im loving it now
Everyone was dressed so classy. Even the audience members wore suits and hats. Such respect for each other. Times have changed and it looks like we’re never going back unless they invent a time machine which will probably happen in the future.
If a time machine will be invented to go into the past, wouldn't we know about it already?
Excelente. Peter Lawford magnífico!
Sammy and Peter seem like real good friends.
Yes they were. Two pals in the Rat Pack
Along with Joey Bishop. Frank Sinatra, And Dean Martin.
All good friends.
@@patsulek1570Look at that date & Peter being JFK’s brother-in-law 😢
Polly NAILED it in the lightning round. So focused.
I've been watching these old shows for the past several days and this one already has me in stitches just a few minutes in! (Then again, I AM a little drunk, lol!)🥃🍺
Who else plays “Spot Betty in the Audience”?
She always seems to be in the front row, of course.
Wow! Didn't even think about that. I saw her!!!
after all, she was the wife of the host.
Janet Leigh was so beautiful ~ here, I could see Jamie Leigh Curtis's eyes.
Sammy Davis Jr. is a class act with a terrific sense of humor.
Charming, funny, and incredibly talented.
I remember seeing every single episode of "Password" when I was much younger and boy did I enjoy watching it very much.
This program certainly does bring back plenty of fond memories.
Thank you very much, PASSWORD, for uploading this video so that we can enhance our English vocabulary.
Please have a nice day today. ©®

I remember watching in the afternoons in California. Right?
Yeah, but this episode was the once a week prime time version. @@christinalw19
Love all these talented people!
I LOVE POLLY BERGEN!
They are so elegant and funny.
I don't understand why Peter Lawford said he didn't have another movie coming up. "Dead Ringer" with Bette Davis was released in February 1964. The dance moves at 10:13 was most enjoyable.
CAN'T BELIEVE THOSE KIDS IN THE FRONT ROW ARE IN THEIR LATE 60"S HOW TIME FLYS
This wasn't successful in the UK but looking at these early games in America it's a shame because it's a great format.
Such a brilliantly simple word game, created by Bob Stewart, who created the other best word game on TV, Pyramid.
Peter Lawford may seem slow but he's a total monster at this game.
I love the "WILD" round. Kind of highlights a cultural difference between Sammy and his peers.
Peter did not do very well. Sammy must be a mind reader to do so well. Those stupid sound alike words ticked me off
@@glenncordova4027 Peter was still great
@@glenncordova4027 Peter Lawford was a very good player on other episodes. I think he had the some of the best record times for the "Lighning Round". for the Sammy gave horrible clues. He was a song & dance guy and grew up in vaudeville / theaters/ night clubs. He had no real knowledge of things most kids who graduated 6th Grade in the U.S. would have known.
For the P-W "Wild" S.D.J should have said: "Jungle", "Animal", "Dangerous", "Game".
As for "sound a-like" words: Well, when you are down to the last one or two points, and nothing else has worked, I say: Yes, use them! Not at the beginning but after all else has failed.
Some players on P-W over the years were clueless people that did not know the difference between a rowboat and a U-boat. No kidding. Watch some other episodes and many of the contestants just stare like a "deer-caught-in-the-headlights" on a road. SAY SOMETHING!
{Before ever applying to be on a show such as "P-W", people should have read several pages from Roget's Thesaurus for a week.}
What a fun show...so many boring dumb nighttime game shows on now wish they’d bring Password back with this exact format!
And Allen Ludden.
@@garyfrancis6193 Allen Ludden made that whole show, without needing or trying to be the center of attention, to bring it back as it was w/o him would be a fruitless effort, indeed.
@@garyfrancis6193 I wish we could.
With the way Dick Clark hosted PYRAMID, he might have been an excellent replacement for Ludden - more so than Bert Convy (Super PASSWORD), who wasn’t bad…
Unfortunately, it was revived and dumbed down. I lasted five minutes. It's nothing more than "The Jimmy Fallon Ego Trip Show."
Polly Bergen is hilarious
Wow, Janet was so pretty and got excited so easily.
Ms Polly Bergen has GOT to Possess oneofthe FUNNIEST Confused Faces, On Instant Recall.. - EVER
😂😂😂
Janet was such a babe, she has come a long way since Jet Pilot with John Wayne. 🥰
I enjoyed this episode very much. Born too late...
I was born at just the right time. I had just started college when this show aired.
This is the first time I've seen Janet looking like Jamie Lee.
Very enjoyable
Polly and Peter should have been in a movie together. Hilarious!
Peter Lawford didn't lose a game in this :-)
But he was there when marilyn got killed...
which is impressive because he's not very good at it.
@@mindfulness123 You must have not watched the several other P-W episode with Peter Lawford. He was a very good player. Extremely good in "The Lightning Rounds".
Sammy and Pete are hilarious!
Jaime Leigh Curtis' facial expressions are a lot like her mom's.
Janet Leigh, wow!
They are in it to win and they are having a great time.
I didn't realize this game was spirited like that when it began. It was so much more toned down in the later years. Still fun, though. This episode is hilarious!
It's because Sammy and Peter were on it.
Betty White is in the front row at the :48 mark.
I saw her too 😁
Ok I saw her!
Polly Bergen was in The Sopranos...Great few episodes with her and gandolfini
Polly is just a knock out !!!!
When you see clown how can you not think BOZO
This is the best game show of Password. Sammy, and Peter Lawford are in a great mood. Back in those days blacks were not on tv. Before they change the rules on discrimination.
What class, even the audience is dressed. Not like today's bums.
Must have been awkward for Lawford because by rights he would have starred in the 7 Hoods had he not fallen out with Sinatra by this point.
instaBlaster.
Sammy and Peter had not fallen out. It was Frankie who had a thing with Peter Lawford Sammy and Peter remain friends for many years Frankie and Peter and Marilyn Monroe and John F Kennedy all had things in common and since Peter Lawford was John F Kennedy's brother-in-law it got to be uncomfortable for Frank Sinatra to have Peter Lawford around after JFK got bumped off
Why did they break up their friendship?
@@scootergurl48, Sinatra campaigned hard for Kennedy. Lawford, JFK's brother-in-law, promised Sinatra a presidential visit. Sinatra had a helicopter pad put in at his house and beefed up security in expectation. The Kennedys were worried about rumors about Sinatra's mob connections at a time when Attorney General Robert Kennedy was supposedly cleaning up the mafia. Not only did JFK snub Sinatra, he rubbed his nose in it by going to Bing Crosby's instead. Sinatra refused to talk to Lawford after that, and made his reason clear by giving Bing Crosby the role that Lawford was supposed to have in Robin and the Seven Hoods.
@@scootergurl48 Hello: Peter Lawford was one of "The Rat Pack" singers and joke tellers which played on Las Vegas stages/ night clubs. Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank (Mafia) Sinatra, Peter Lawford.
Peter Lawford was married to a sister of President Kennedy. Sinatra wanted to be let into the Presidents "Family Circle" and was going to campaign or speak for the family in California. Kennedy was asked to come to So. Cal. and vacation / spend time with Sinatra and his "pals'. J. Edgar Hoover (Long-time F.B.I. Director) told / advised President Kennedy "NO!", Not at all because Sinatra was/ is / Mafia backed and financed. That would have been a very bad "Public Relations" problem. J.F.K.'s team / spokesperson told Sinatra " No Thanks, bye." (I'm guessing at the words used ;-) . )
Sinatra got his "feelings hurt" and blamed Peter Lawford. After that, Peter Lawford and Sinatra were not "pals" anymore, so Lawford was not included in the movie "Robin and the Seven Hoods."
This P-W episode was aired the same month that President Kennedy was murdered in Dallas, Texas. There are people with good reasons / possible reasons who thought/think the Mafia were one of the groups that wanted J.F.K. dead.
Roger Mudd of NBC News (retired) did a weeklong program several years ago one episode/group per night for a week. It was titled: "The People (or Men) That Wanted Kennedy Dead." Very interesting investigation. The Mafia; The U.S.S.R.; Fidel Castro (Cuban Communist Dictator), V.P. Lyndon Baines Johnson; The C.I.A... I do not know, as I was in 2nd Grade back then. Many people did not like J.F.K. He was more of an anti-communist than Richard Nixon was. They ran against each other in the 1960 election.
J.F.K.'s brother Robert was the U.S. Attorney General at the time and was asking lots of questions about the Mafia and people related to the mafia. Criminals hate people asking questions.
Late 1990's / very early 2000's I often listened to a radio call-in talk show host in So. California named George Putnam. Program was titled: "Talk-Back!" Good program. No call-screener. Say what you want to say, unless it was a death threat against a person or people group.
He had been a longtime radio-TV news announcer/reporter in Minnesota and (iirc) New York/New Jersey, and southern California. Sometimes he made extra $ by announcing / M.C.-ing at dance clubs / night clubs / sing-song places in the late 1930's time period. He stated that one evening at a night club / dance club where George was doing the announcing a singer was booked / advertised to sing that night, BUT Frank Sinatra had a couple of his Mafioso goons take that singer into the rest room and beat the singer up so he could not perform that night. Then Frank Sinatra got on stage instead and that was his showbiz career starter. I have seen the mug shot photo of young Sinatra on the internet.
Sammy habitually gave two word clues...lol
Just six weeks from that horrible day in Dallas.
Best “Password” episode I’ve ever seen, hilarious
These people had no idea how life in America would change in just a little over a month from this broadcast.
What fun!
Did anyone notice that Betty White is in the front row of the audience?
2 rat pack buds. WOW. LAWFORD WAS RIGHT THERE.
filmed a month before Lawford's brother in law JFK was assaninated.
Yay Betty
I was just 10 months old when this episode aired. Sheesh.
I had just started college.
Only a month after this air date peter lawfords brother in law was killed.(JFK)
Shelley Warkentin : November 22, 1963 was also the 5th birthday of Jamie Lee Curtis. Her parents were having a party for her. Her mother said the parents who brought their kids to the party were walking around like zombies after hearing the news about JFK.

12:11 blatant cheating can be heard, but peter plays it safe and folds. :)
Back then they had real big name stars play on these game shows. Today, I don't recognize most of the "stars" on game shows.
i screamed myself hoarse yelling 'CUPID' during the 'stupid' round.
🤡
Pollie's Principles, a good one..
Recorded at Television City Studios, Hollywood, California.
Someone in the audience says the answer at 19:21
Wow. Never would have heard it if you didn't mention it, I bet Pete heard it
Yep. I heard a few clues given from the audience in this episode.
What you are hearing is actually an audio tape echo. When old audio and video tapes have been stored on reels for a long time, some of the magnetic fields that create the audio 'bleed' through to the tape that is above or below. If you listen closely, after you hear the word Banana, you can hear the echo of Alan Ludden saying Yes!!.
@@Wolfinger1935 Good info. Thank you!

I love Sammy, hahaha
Sammy was a huge JFK fan and canadated for him..he had beed invited to all the post election balls..after Kennedy won Sammy married a beautiful white woman. He was then uninvited to those balls..Those tolerant Democrats..don't you just love them 😖😖😖
Have come to the conclusion people were funnier back then.
Absolutely. People had personalities then and weren't afraid to display them.
@@snootybaronet I know with PC you are afraid to say anything now
At 8:00, Polly not protecting the answer. Peter has clear view. Wasn't the only time. Contrary to some, this was a bad episode. Enjoyed seeing Janet Lee and Sammy Davis, Jr. Thought Polly Bergen was smarter than she appears here. Don't think much of Peter Lawford, before or after this episode.
Intelligent and incredibly sexy man is Lawford
It was special episode. They were not playing with audience contestants who were trying to pay the rent, car bill and buy groceries that month. They were playing for their favorite charities. Loose rules for the show-bizzies.
If you watch other Polly Bergen and/or Peter Lawford episodes, you will see that Lawford was very good player. Both Polly B. and Janet L were attractive women but , unlike many show biz gals, those two had something functioning between their ears.
{Unlike the English Actress Claire Bloom, argh! I felt sorry for the contestants that week. She was daft. And so was the male guest that week. Clueless without a cue Card.}
After moth I'd have said monarch for butterfly. Could also try Caterpillar
@Friggin Irish - I thought of that too but figured they’d say “royal” or “queen”.
I love you
When Sammy gave the clue "Tracy" for the word "mark" it sure sounded like someone whispered the password.
Interesting. Sammy mentions Robin and the Seven Hoods which is the first movie after Frank Sinatra kicked Peter Lawford out of the Rat Pack.
It ironic one of Polly Bergen’s clues was psycho…..Janet had no funny response to it…
I don’t understand why crooner was allowed as a clue since it contains the word.
he said 'grooner' hoping she would realize it wasn't a word and look for a rhyme.
@@maxdecphoenix No, he said "groaner" because that was a nickname of Bing Crosby, who was the original crooner. The Old Groaner.
"Groaner" NOT crooner. Use the "CC" options as I do. It often helps. Jonathan NC gave the correct answer. These four were in "Show -biz / Music-biz".
Was thoroughly and consistently entertained by 5 dead people. Live your life to the fullest. Check.
Another Betty White in audience sighting. She was seen frequently in week of Angie Dickenson/Frank Gorshin.
It must have been awkward for Sammy to mention his upcoming movie, since Peter was originally going to star in it, too. But, after personal issues developed between him and Frank (Sinatra), Peter was replaced with Bing Crosby. Allegedly, Sinatra never spoke to Peter again. I love Frank's music and acting, but I think he acted unreasonably, based on the details I've read and heard about the matter. Of course, only those two knew all the facts.
Hello. I posted a detailed reply to "scootgurl48" above to the post by "Heinkle". Lots of information. I was in elementary school and hundreds of miles from The President or Lawford or Sinatra, but other folks "in-the-know" knew stuff about Sinatra. You might wish to scroll up a few posts and read it. Hope this is helpful to you.
@@gusloader123 Hi, Gus. Thank you for your kind note. I found and read your other information-packed comment. There's been a lot of stories about Frank -- some of which I've read and many more I've not. Honestly, I really don't want the negative accusations to be true, because I like Frank's music and movies so much. However, Frank was a human being like the rest of us and he wasn't immune to making mistakes.
One thing that is true is Frank helped raise a lot of money for various charities over his lifetime. Some he donated directly and some he helped raise by donating his time to give performances and donating all proceeds to the particular charity or cause. He would sometimes have Dean and Sammy go along with him.
But, again, I know Frank wasn't perfect and he himself admitted to having a short temper in his younger years. Frank was known to be moody, jealous, and didn't like being alone -- especially at night. He was also reported to have severe insomnia. Those last two, if true, might explain why some of his parties would last until sunrise...after which Frank would finally go to sleep.
I'm not famous and have no talents, so I can only imagine what a life with such professional demands paired with personal insecurities might be like...especially when living it out in front of the public. It's lucky for Frank that he didn't have to contend with the Internet, Smartphones (with recording capabilities and used my most people), and 24-hour-a-day news programs always looking for the latest salacious headline to report. In fact, I'm glad I'm a nobody and can live my meager existence in obscurity.
Take care, Gus. I wish you good health and happiness.
LAWFORD AND DAVIS PROBABLY HAVE A LITTLE SIDE BET
OMG , just one month before JFK !!!!
The late Password host Allen Ludden, sure looked like a college professor with those, black rimmed eyeglasses. I guess that was the eyeglass style of the 1960s. I await your reply.
Don't know why Bozo wasn't the immediate clue for clown. *Sammy Davis Jr - 1 of the greatest entertainers & a cool dude!
I thought it was funny after Janet Leigh got introduced with the show she was currently in when she introduced Sammy she said "from everywhere". He did it all.

I still ain't hip to the "Tracy" clue.
Okay here's the Scoop. Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis were real tight they both do each other's family very well Sammy had a son named Mark and a daughter named Tracy. It was an Insider's clue between Pete and Sammy Sammy had five kids somewhere his own somewhere adopted and some he had along the way with other loves of his life
@@Widda68 Good answer. Sammy explained that to A.L.
63utuber: Sammy Davis told A.L. what the clue was. Watch it again! Name of a child of Sammy.
Seventy year old here: My family and I loved this show and even had the home version which we played alot. But look at 00:49. Isn't the lovely smiling lady, in the lower right, Allen Ludden's bride of four months, Betty White Ludden?
Funny that Janet Leigh wasn't the one to use "psycho" as the clue for "analyst" ...
Tv shows didn't show Black's by in the days in the 60. It must been different. By the 70 most game shows had black's players
The networks did not want riots and the advertiser's feared boycotts, so they decided to make Jesse Jackson and the Panthers happy.
Never again will A-listers be on game shows again
Was Bozo already known in 1963?
If the Rat Pack is involved, I’m There!

'TOP' and 'BOTTOM' being the passwords, Sammy should have been onto those faster, as he played both in his private life! 😅
