Agreed. But those same young people are paying *so much more* in *so many ways* than you and I had to pay back in the day and they have absolutely no concept of how they're being cheated out of $$$ that they could be spending upon themselves, their homes, their children and their communities. The untaxed ultra-rich oligarchs who are in control of Americas' political system aren't going to give up their efforts to establish One World Order any time soon. This time around the target is the USA and not Germany as during WW II. Good luck to us all.
Great rock band from the 70's-80's. They had lots of hit songs such as "Only Sixteen", "A Little Bit More", "When You're In love With A Beautiful Woman", "Sharing The Night Together", "Better Love Next Time", "Sexy Eyes", "The Cover Of Rolling Stone" etc.
The biggest hit from Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show is "Cover Of The Rolling Stone". They eventually got there but it took a little while. "Sylvia's Mother" is just a bit sad and gets you in the "feelies".
This song was written by the poet Shel Silverstein. There is a video of the band singing this song on Shel's houseboat that is a really good video. Thanks for a great reaction.
@@SaeedReacts. The houseboat video is a must see! I believe it's in Holland and Shel's playing harmonica...and as John Prine would say, they're all wearing illegal smiles 🙂
I was 12 when this song was came out. I love how it shows how much things have changed. Pay phones with limited time, only one or maybe two in the house, and not being able to get in touch with the person you want. This song is heartbreaking.
@@SaeedReacts. Silverstein also wrote Cover of the Rolling Stone, which, as others have said, is definitely a must-hear. He was also an excellent cartoonist/illustrator for Playboy magazine.
@@SaeedReacts. Shel Silverstein also wrote a handful of storybooks and poetry collections for children, as well as the song "The Unicorn" sung by the Irish Rovers (inter alia).
'The Cover of "Rolling Stone"' is the big one but they have lots of others. 'Freakin' At The Freakers Ball', 'Queen of the Silver Dollar', Carry Me Carrie', 'Millionare' and 'When Your In Love With a Beautiful Woman' to name a few. Cheers.
This made me cry - many years ago when I was only 17, this happened to me! The guy involved bought me the record ..... knowing what I know now, I would have changed my mind 😞
🇬🇧 Dennis Lecorrier (lead singer) has the BEST voice EVER. And I think he's still touring. More great songs from them are.... "Better Love Next Time" "Sexy Eyes". There are more but I can't think of them right now. Great reaction though. Glad you enjoyed it. 👌🎼🎶
Saeed, tis is one of their sad songs but they had so many great fun songs as well. They were one of the greatest fun bands to see live. They really treated their audiences with love and respect. So many great tines ...go down that rabbit hole and you will love it.
I was a telephone operator for 29 years, this came out when I was still doing long distance calls and my friends and I were trying to figure out where he calling for 40 cents more for the next 3 minutes.
🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 All of these years later.....the best part about y.t. reactions? Finding out that so many people love the songs that I thought, I was loving alone, so many years ago! Once you hear Dr.Hook, you're hooked!💓💃🤣 Sexy Eyes & Sharing The Night Together, are musts. Thank you Saed. 💯👏👏👏👏
Hey Saeed, This is my all-time favorite song! He sings it with so much emotion that it nearly makes me cry every time, always leaves my eyes misty! It is number one on my playlist! FYI, there are three lead singers in this group, you will find that out as you discover them. "Black and White" is an awesome song by them. Also "When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman" is heart-warming! Oh and "Cover of the Rolling Stone" is another favorite by them!
Cover of the Rolling Stone, When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman, I Got Stoned and I Missed It, and if it won't get you in trouble, Freaker's Ball.
“Holding onto the past comes at a cost.” What a great insight. I’ve never heard anyone point that out before. I’m glad you enjoyed this one. To me, this one and Harry Nilsson’s “Without You”, which you reacted to a few days ago, are the only songs I can think of where the singer genuinely sounds like he’s feeling the grief, sorrow, and desperation he’s singing about. And I must join the mighty chorus of all those recommending “Cover of the Rolling Stone”. Seriously. You won’t regret it.
I would hear this song as a very young child, probably three years old, and just cry. Always loved these guys. They were great. The lead singer on this is, Dennis Locorriere still tours. This band sure had a great time on stage. They have some really crazy, fun songs.
Saeed, Have I got a great one for you!!They did a song named Yodel, and it is not one of their top hits, but it is more fun than should be allowed in one video!! I grew up with the drummer of this band. I have followed them since the 70's. They are awesome!!
My book friend. A accomplished children's book writer and poet, Shel Silverstien wrote, many Dr Hook songs. He wrote this along with, A little bit More (one of my favorites) , Sharing the Night Together ( yeah, its about that), The Cover of the Rolling Stone, Cocaine Katy, as well as a few others. Dr Hook is my teenage rebellion. I've always said its amazing they can play and sing on pitch while enjoying some of the adult beverages and other things....LOL.
What an amazing band they were. They had great storytelling songs like this. Other similar ones are carry me Carrie and the ballad of Lucy Jordan. But they also made a lot of great funny songs like the cover of the Rolling Stone
Ohh man welcome to this rabbit hole! You have to check out their live version of “Cover of the Rolling Stone” to see all the personalities of this group, you’ll love it!
Love your reaction! A lot of people don't remember when the operator would interrupt and say that! It's costing him money to be turned away! Loved this song since it came out, and I was a kid!
Dennis Licorroiere's vocal has great emotion on this song. He wrote great song called Passion Street with Southside Johnny. Check out Southside Johnny's version of that song.
Dr. Hook was and is one of the most underrated groups of all time!! They were huge in the 70's and 80's!! This is a HUGE, HUGE Rabbit Hole but you will be so glad you took the journey, even though it is going to be a very long trip!!!
I first saw Dr. Hook for free, when I was 14, on the Calgary Stampede's grounds. The energy! The commitment! The musicianship. (and, the FUN). These guys have a huge place in my heart. Check out more of their songs.
One of the best harmonizing bands ever, especially their early to mid 1970s songs, which the radio never played. I started collecting their albums in the 1970s but then I got burgled. Then I went to cassettes, then to CDs and then to download. I really wish I still had my albums.
Great song. Their most famous song is The Cover of the Rolling Stone. They had success, but had never been on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine. After creating the song, they were put on the cover. It’s a fun song.
"Cover of the Rollong Stone", "I Got Stoned and I Missed It", "Freakers Ball", "Queen of the Silver Dollar", "Get My Rocks Off" and many more good songs by Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show.
Love me some Dr. Hook, since I was a pimply teen, Wolfman Jack ruled radio, and the Cover of the Rolling Stone was printed and delivered to my parents' doorstep on newspaper stock. Rock and Roll!!!
I do not know much about Dr Hook, but always liked this song. Another group I'm not that into but like this one too "Another Brick in The Wall" Pink Floyd.
Try "The Winner" also written by Shel Silverstein but performed by Kris Kristofferson. It's a brilliant story/lesson that's sung to perfection. You won't regret it. RIP Shel! You're missed...
What a great song to spotlight! A favorite of mine. What I love about Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show is their versatility. The creativity and fun of "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone'", then they hit you all up in your feelings with "Sylvia's Mother". Another favorite of mine is "A Little Bit More" - that one's for the grown folks! 😄Then there's their version "Only Sixteen". And who could forget "Penicillin Penny"?! 😳😂Their performances on Shel's (Silverstein) Houseboat are flipping classics!
Fantastic song and band! You have lots of songs to explore in this rabbit hole. The cooler thing is that the writer is Shel Silverstein, who is quite an author and cartoonist as well. My wife and I grew up with his music, but our kids grew up with his writing. He's really brilliant and worth looking into.
This song was based on a true story of Shel Silverstein, who authored not only this song, but many more. He is one of my most beloved authors. His biggest works from my childhood are The Giving Tree, A Light in the Attic, and my favorite Where the Sidewalk Ends 🙂
Really enjoyed your reaction, and how what you said is true. I am 64 and a woman, and this still gets to me ❤ the way he expresses the pain is heartbreaking. I have been on that pay phone more than once desperately trying to reach that loved one. It is one of the hardest things to go through when you are bleeding inwardly because the line of communication is snapped 😢 thanks for doing this! Peace 😊
This is one of my favorite bands. Everyone wants to react to this or The Cover of the Rolling Stone, and they are both great songs, but there are so many that are better. Carry Me, Carrie or Turn on the World or I Can't Touch the Sun, all are amazing songs. I was lucky enough to see them in concert! Thanks for reacting to Dr. Hook!

And young people these days have no concept of having to put extra $$ into a pay phone to keep the call going.
