This video is of ‘Natural Builders Around us’ chapter from the Back Home Series, where we portray people who have built mud homes by learning through a workshop with Thannal. The series helps the audience know more about different people who have successfully built natural homes - ‘Thannal Homes’ - overcoming various challenges and helps you learn from their experience, for making a home for yourself. We are working as an awareness group to make more natural builders than making buildings by ourselves.
Mahesh Krishnan who designed this natural building is from Bangalore, who has quit his job 3 years before and trying to learn basic life skills like natural farming and natural building, to live a life close to nature. This 300 square feet small home which he has built is for his first learning experience. We can see how he has used local materials to make a space with adobe, wattle & daub walls. He also shares his learnings from the process of building with his own hands in this video. This home is built largely by himself, in a total cost of just Rs. 18,500/- (less than $250) in 125 days.

i m also planing to built a simple mud house at my village in Maharashtra where clay soil is available at site itself. need your expert guidance for the same as we will be starting with mud bricks preparation this December 2021. we ourself will be involved in construction work and may need few labour. could you please guide us as which material to be used for doors and windows, what kind of wood / bamboo to be used. why glass powder is added to soil ? what to use for termite treatment? It will be one small room with kitchen and bathroom outside house in backyard. we have our own cows so cow dung and urine we have already started collection for this purpose. Do we need to treat the wooden material before construction ? How?... Plz guide
