When brandon's handheld is better than your gimbal moves
if you use ibis then you aren't really a handheld god.
Fern's Corner lets be honest, Sony’s ibis is pretty useless in video anyhow
@@waltdog177 compared to an xt3 handheld goodluck, don't get me wrong this man is very skilled but if you want to see true skill use no OIS, IBIS.
@@CleanLogo 100% agree. I'm an xt3 owner. I used to own Sony and the stabilisation in them is only just better than no stabilisation haha. Personally I love the look of handheld footage without any ibis, it looks much more organics once you add some weight and get rid of the micro jitters
@@waltdog177 same here i had the a6500, with the gmaster OIS didnt even need a gimbal for that monster. you are correct, weight is a big factor in movement.
Your reviews are always the most honest and frankly the most useful for practical application of any reviewer on RUclips. You never seem to rush a review to get it out first and that has not gone unnoticed by your audience. Thanks for being the “real deal”!
Perfect review. It is what it is. No click bait, no you tube nonsense. Brandon you are not only the best you tube FILM maker but also a great honest no frills reviewer. ✊
Brilliant. Really gives us a perspective on camera positioning
If you need more than 5 stops of nd, just use a 2 or 3 stop screw in nd filter on the front of your lens and put the polarpro step up ring onto the screw in nd filter and then mount the mattebox.
Job done 👍
Superb demonstrations and 'end of day' evaluation. Your evaluation 'depending on your environment/approach' the system could be +or - is different than any other review. Super point that has influenced my decision process. More I'll probably have to by the Basecamp and screw on. Thanks! LoL
Your handheld footage is freaking out of this world💪🏽. I can only get footage that steady with a gimbal.
Try holding your camera the way I show in the video. And do ninja walk just like you would with a gimbal.
Your video is so good, so many good tips and a great review! Just thanks!
Awesome to see the full video after seeing the shorter post on Instagram! 👍👍
the most insightful video covering this product
Best review out there. Thanks Brandon.
no way~ it cannot be freaking HANDHELD footage!!
I appreciate your honest reviews! Thank you.
perfect review
Cute bird appeared 2:55
Happy Spring Festival
Cool tips!! Now I can just buy a matte box instead of a gimbal 😂😂
awesome review Brandon. just purchased. thx
Brandon ! Great Move Just Like Gimbal
Freewell's VND costs only $110. However I prefer their magnetic filters.
I tried Xume and got vignetting on wide lenses. Maybe Freewell's system is better.
@@BrandonLiUnscripted Haven't had any vignetting issues so far on Freewells magnetic fixed ND filters. Interested in the Haida Nanopro as it looks like a variable version of Freewell's ND filters without adding extra width that could introduce vignetting
Great video! Thanks!
Great explanation and honest review Mr Li, I’m designing a hybrid matte box now, will send to you when it’s complete for an honest review
Waiting for one
Love your personality, Client part was hilarious :D
Sony PXW FS5 has built in infinite ND, roll on or off as you go👍
totally unrelated to this video Brandon but will you revisit the Weebill S for a more detailed video with your thoughts? appreciate it a lot !
great review! Thanks!
Hi Brandon, Great review.... The Polarpro mate box system have a lot of control permissing circular CPL +ND , but I just wondered if there is an interest to have a second kit Polarpro PeterMcKinnon VND Mist, without mate box.. I read that the Mist edition II reduce a little bit the wrinkle for skin..and have a nice cinematic render.. for people filming fashion or beauty you think it's an interesting approach or only keep the VND with mate box... All the best
Nice one brother
thanks you for your video, from Cambodia
I need that hat so that I can shoot as good as you.
좋은 팁 알려주셔서 감사합니다. ;)
Hey Brandon, great shoots. Does your camera have in-body stabilization? Does your lens have stabilization or both?
Awesome video!! Wondering if you have any videos on what picture profile you shoot with and color grading process? The image looks great!!!
Thanks, I shoot in hlg and I choose my angles and lighting carefully. Most of the footage here is not color graded. I try to get it right in camera instead of fixing it in post.
Brandon Li thanks for the reply. Good to know, gonna try that out! Do you know the other specific details besides HLG that you use in your picture profile? Would help me a ton, thanks in advance!!
Lots Love Brandon Li ❤️❤️
The Ma$ter! 💪🏻⚡️📷💥📽👊🏻
Interesting! Nice review. ✌️
polarpro make some amazing products hey
Great. So just in term of image quality (only Variable filter), which is better polarpro: vnd peter mckinnon or this basecamp? which one should I buy?
I just wish for the love of god that they would put another access point to the variable ring adjustment. I always hold my left hand under the lens to adjust focus, if they put the ring there it would mean i don't need to move my hand. But the top feels like literally the worst spot
Agreed
Thumbs up!
When I first saw this, I musty've had a mini stroke, because I thought it said Polaroid Boot Camp, and I was like WHAT?!?! Lmfao
Noticed that the matte box is on a 24-105 zoom lens which protrudes out. Overtime, do you think it's too heavy or will damage the lens (I.e. when zoomed all the way out to 105mm?) This looks great for cine lenses but wondering if it's good for zoom photo lenses. Thoughts?
Hi Brandon, how many filters can we stack at once? I'm also interested in the mist filter. Thanks.
Somehow his handheld looks like gimbal at regular speed 😂😂😂
And for those who didn't quite get it, Mr Li is NOT a fan of the PolarPro Basecamp Matte Box.
@Brandon_Li can i ask, does variable nd filter also act like a circular polarizer filter ( in the cutting reflection ) and also its a neutral density in one time ? thank you
8:25 Pretty sure if your shooting for a client with a mirrorless and they comment that the camera looks professional or like a cinema camera, they've never been apart of a proper production. My guess is the amount of money quoted for a job that uses a mirrorless system isn't in the same category. My point isn't to diss smaller productions, it's to argue that wanting to look legit by a matte box is silly. Great video, I just disagree on that statement.
Sounds like you're a pro. What is a proper production, and what is an improper production?
Brandon Li I’m a professional photographer that’s had to adapt to hybrid shooting. I shoot around 2-5 interviews for Biz Journals a week. They made it mandatory for the photographers 4 years ago to photograph and shoot video of the subjects. Two photographers said no and I filled one of the positions. Lucky it’s just interviews and b-roll and they only require 1080p. I shoot with a Canon C100 Mark II. I will say it has open up larger bids adding video to my quotes that I would have never got if I didn’t adapt. I would argue that setting up a C100 or a larger video camera does add production value. I’ve had my eye on that polar pro for awhile. Just imagine if I do run into clients that think it’s more professional and how it will look on a C100 😉
Ha Ha - Brandon - do you even need a gimbal. 👍
Hey Brandon! Are there any other conditions outside of backlight shots that would benefit from a matte box? It seems like for the other conditions that the improvement is nominal.
When shooting with film lighting you usually want to cut flares from the artificial lights. So then you’d want to use a matte box
Hi everybody! Can anyone explain me what happens with the polarization using this filter? I mean, does the pola filter change the direct reflections as it darks the image at the same time? And in that case? How can you manage to expose the ND intensity and then adjust the polarization? Thanks!!
Thank you Brandon for the practical tips. Does the matte box VND still have the cross-x pattern. I've heard even on the circular ver (polarpro) still has that issue at max stops of light?
I didn't see cross pattern at 24mm, even at full strength. I did see color shift toward blue, and some chromatic aberration when filter is set to >5 stops.
@@BrandonLiUnscripted Thank you
Hello Brandon,
Will this work with Sony FE 14mm F/1.8 GM?
What's the widest lens (in Full Frame) that can be used on this matte box?
when are you gonna do a review on that hat? 10/10 style
Thanks for the review. Informative w/o trying to sell me something.
I just got this system and it seems the variable part of the ND isn't working at all. When I slide my polarizer with the NDs inside, I'm stuck at the same exposure, it doesn't adjust at all. Anyone else have this problem?
what profile did you used to film the lady ?
genius!
Please review setting camera a6400 for cinematik
I don't have that camera sorry
Is there any way to use a pro mist filter while using this?
I KNEW IT! BRANDON DONT USE GIMBAL. HE IS THE GIMBAL!
Hi Brandon, How is the sony lenses auto focusing will work with this base camp kit? will there be auto focusing issues with the two glasses (CPL+VND) infront of the sony lens ?
Autofocus works exactly the same as without filter
Brandon Li Thank you so much Brandon.
The gimbal God's had a kid and his name was Brandon!
❤️
Where do you find a circular polarizer that is also a variable ND?
It's all part of the kit. The circular polarizer becomes part of the variable ND when you slide in the square filter. You don't get the polarization effect while using it as a VND. One or the other, based on which filters are in the matte box.
Why should i need a gimbal? 🤔😂 best regards from 🇩🇪
What about new Tilta Mini Mattebox?
I haven't used any other matte boxes. I usually shoot with no filters.
Does it support a black pro mist filter?
No, only PolarPro brand filters
So can u use it on a Gimbal?
It's possible but it will add front weight and bulk. Basically you're adding 300g weight to the front of your lens.
NO feel iron hand啊
Sony has the only proper variable ND filter in the FS5m2/7m2 and FX9!
Too bad they will never, ever bring those filters to mirrorless cameras
gimbal arms for everybody🙏🙏🙏
Word
wow,too weight is a big problem😜
Geez Brandon, you make a gimbal look so unnecessary
He doesn’t need gimbal he is a gumbal
I learnt that this is good to get more money from client xD
These mattebox are toooo fkin expensive...overpriced, and the filters too...600-800 for this mattebox it’s ridiculous.
Can I buy you hand?😂
Polar pro way overpriced and don't perform for the price. You can get NISI cheaper.
well to big and to expensive for hobby
Someone Tell Polar Pro, They NEED Side FLAGS more then anything...
Side flags would be nice

Exactly, So many times when i needed them.
