Removed the EGR and installed a cat toy and litter box. No more rodents. ;-) What helped us on the farm was enclosed mouse traps... those really big ones you see on the back side of restaurants. In the barn, in the workshop, in the gym, all of our metal buildings, around the RV, etc. Stopped em at the perimeter.
As a former rv owner the best thing we found were LED lights and leaving the hood open when parked. We tried Irish spring, the mice ate it. Mothballs are toxic to all animals that might eat them including your pets.
Yep.. I see some nest debris in my engine valley, and insulation missing from the heat shield you pointed out. Also a suspected wiring issue related to the airbag control module. I don't even know where to begin.
I use a spray from Grandpa Gus's rodent repellent spray. It has peppermint oil and cinnamon oil. It has pleasant smell to it so it can be used on the inside of the vehicle also.
Yep I’ve that problem before, mouse nest in the valley of my 6.7. I took some pill bottles and drilled several holes in them then filled the bottles with Cotten balls and added peppermint oil. Hung the bottles under the hood, so far so good.
I have two cats and I save the fur when we groom them. I then place some of that fur in strategic areas under the hood. Been doing this since 2015, so far no mice.
These nests are a potential fire hazard and have been known to cause fires which as you can imagine will be out of control very quickly and result in having a totalled vehicle. Please pay attention to stuff like this. Just as bad as the fuel filter issue when they start spraying fuel and that goes downhill quick too. Keep a fire extinguisher in your truck and always check down in the valley for the stuff these critters like to put down there to make their lil 'condos in the valley'!👌🏻👍🏻🛠️🔧🔩🚫🐁❌🐀🎯🏹⚡ ✊🏻🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸✊🏻
My former boss uses Fresh Cab rodent repellent in his skid steer in engine area and other vital spots and swears by it. It’s in a pouch that breathes and smells great, I use it in my rv with great results also!
The audio repellents are no go. Tons of studies on them report them to be ineffective. LED lights can bug them though. I need something to repel bad fuel. Got some water somewhere and some metal crud. My CP4 has over 201,000 on it and it will likely fail now.
i saw some mouse poops in the valley when i was inspecting my truck pre-purchase a year and half ago, but no nest. bought it anyway, trouble free! no chew marks anywhere.
I took a couple of pill bottles with snap on lids, drilled a shitload of tiny holes in them. Stuffed the bottles with cotton, then soaked that with concentrated peppermint oil. Hung one off a wiring harness on each side of the engine. I try to refresh the oil every 6 months or so, Spring and Fall. So far, so good!
Had this happen in 2020. Mice ate right through the harness. Dealer said 12 weeks because of supply chain. I got on phone and started calling nationwide, found one in MD begged dealer to sell it to me. He did, a few days later on the road again. My dealer offered me a job LOL
Ventech sponsor, huh, maybe tell them an LHG kit for the 11-14 trucks should just be some grooved idlers in their kit so I can finally stop freezing my ass off! Or maybe a rat's nest bonfire under the turbo all winter can keep me warm... Edit: and a double groove belt please...
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Nuh-uh... They have kits for 15-16 and 17-23, but no 11-14. The pulley system and belt for the 15-16 kit is designed to be grooved on only one side and Ventech says you'd have to change the 11-14 fan pully & casting to a 15-16 to make it work, but I thought it would be as easy as including some grooved idlers and a double grooved belt, maybe just the one for the double alt setup idk, I just know Ventech themselves say there's no 11-14 kit... It literally takes the place of the 2nd alt, so it should be easy, but I guess not, verify yourself, no 11-14 kit... There's a lot of 11-14 trucks, make it happen cap'n, it's going to be cold soon!
I purchased a new-to-me 2018 F250 Plati 6.7 back in 2021. As I was going over it at home I noticed a mass of sunflower seeds husks down in the valley. It took me several months to clean it out when I replaced the plastics intake manifold with a HSM setup. The mass of shells was significant and I was concerned about a fire hazard. Fortunately no electrical issues from the critters using that nest. What new earbuds are you using for this video??
Maybe it will be in a video coming, but can you replace the egr guts without removing the egr? My rodent issue is constantly vacuuming, cleaning, spraying tomcat, and the best so far is I place solar light under the hood every night.
I found that two wires to my front wheel speed sensor were eaten by something. Pulled the wheel well out and spliced the wires back in. But will be using the pill bottle trick as soon as I can.
Honda sells "rat" tape. No joke, its electrical tape impregnated with something rodents leave alone. Wrapped several feet of it around various looms under the hood when I had squirrels in a Tundra a couple years ago. Had to splice wires on 3 injectors and the MAF sensor. Wire looms were in their way to nest around the intake.
I had a nest in my 2011, you found it.Back in April. I also found a squirrels nest in the tail gate of my 2017. I haven't checked lately I better recheck that.
A couple months ago I had a Rat in the engine valley of my 450. The dogs were going nuts under my truck, and this is how I found out that I had this problem. I stuck a paint stick down into the engine valley and was able to poke the Rat enough to make it run out under the truck but it went up above the spare tire. I decided to take a drive and that Rat bastard made its way forward and got tangled up in the serpentine belt and engine fan. Broke the belt and killed the Rat, but now the truck is undriveable. Ended up having to get towed, and what a mess to clean up. This is when I found out that not every parts store (not even the Ford dealer) had a serpentine belt for a dual alternator 6.7. Had to order it. Got everything fixed and low and behold I saw another one in the engine valley. I put a large snap trap with peanut butter on the business end of the trap. The next morning I found the trap with the other Rat out on the driveway. So far, no more signs of any more rodents.
**looks in his 7.3L Power Stroke** nope .. no rodents here. Was it true that ford was using a soy based plastic wire insulation for a while thats how they got the Taste of ford?

Not a critter....
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I wondered if a critter chewing on wires may be the cause. It's intermittent, but the light is mostly on now

My heater core fitting just above the valley leaks way too much to worry about mice living in that area 😅
Mice have loved chewing whatever they can find under the hood to make their nests. Nice warm engine valleys, I've had to clean out a few.
The audio repellents are no go. Tons of studies on them report them to be ineffective. LED lights can bug them though.

I have to check every spring because of red Squirrel and chipmunks love to make nest in the valley.
No nests here more power to ya
We've also used in the past cat fur. And for winter storage vehicles. Used clumping cat litter. Not one rodent attempted to enter.

Man that engine bay is clean AF for an 8 year old truck!!! Thanks brother for another great video!!!
That engine bay looks nice and clean. Do you power wash before your work starts?
No only after
Thankfully I don’t have that issue here in Florida! 😅

Mouse traps under the hood and to frame 😮 having a cat can help too

I have a video shown you exactly what you should do. New guts worked flawless.
My 2019 has 570,000 miles doesn’t sit still long enough for Mickey to pay a visit
Bio hazard vacuum required.
That looks pretty tame compared to mine if you remember the grey 250 with the S&B tank install at the old shop
Oh yeaaaah
Glad I don’t have this problem
I just installed a mouse blocker on all my vehicles that sit outside. So far so good

They travel in pairs always..
If they aren't allergic, they should invest in a cat.
20 drops of essence of peppermint in a spray bottle filled with water works great for 5 months

You would be correct. Ford and others switched to a soybean based material for their wire insulation.
Don't think a 7.3 is mice proof. They love chewing the plastic wire loom in any vehicle
