The first was beholding a pride of lions at the Fresno Zoo, and the second was being observed up close by California Condors at Pinnacles National Park. Both experiences were very awe-inspiring and surreal. The animals’ stature and movements made it feel very much like we were “in their domain.” It wasn’t threatening, but very commanding. It somehow felt almost sacred. Totally bizarre.

    As a child out of every animal, I was most impressed and mindful of cheetahs. All big cats have their niches on terms of attack style but the cheetahs truly has an all or nothing, live fast die hard lifestyle. The cheetahs uses almost all of its sustainable energy in a single charge similar to this one. Which is why cheetahs are probably the world's best stalkers. If they are able to catch their prey, the bite has to be extremely precise. Cheetah cubs also have a very low survival rate compared to other big cats. Meaning there are fewer mates... a rough life but respectable.

    • @1ChristopherCampbell
      @1ChristopherCampbell 2 года назад +31

      It's actually a tough life, they have a mini stroke every time they exert this energy from overheating

    • @zebrascanflytoo9496
      @zebrascanflytoo9496 2 года назад +14

      Not impressed enough to learn about them enough? (It's a joke I don't mean to be rude) Cheetahs do not use almost all of its sustainable energy in a single charge, if that happened a single failed hunt would be a disaster for them (which is not the case they aren't affected much by a lost hunt) in fact the energy in these sprints is QUITE lower than the amount of time they have to spend just walking around looking for prey.

    • @zebrascanflytoo9496
      @zebrascanflytoo9496 2 года назад +17

      @@1ChristopherCampbell It's not actually the energy spent that's overheating them (it's been disproven) , while the exact reason for why they overheat is unknown some believe it's because their senses are heightened after a kill to be alert to any larger predator who might steal their kill (this isn't proven tho)

    Fun fact: Every cheetah alive has at least a 30% attempt to kill ratio. They burn so many calories from running at these top speeds that doing it more than twice without getting some food will kill them of starvation/exhaustion

    • @bastymanguy

      @ramennight 2 года назад +3

      Your math doens't work out their bud, whoever gave you that fact has something off. If they only got a kill 30% of the time, but they die after 2 failures, thats about a 50% death rate every two hunts.

    • @MaxLennon
      @MaxLennon 2 года назад

      @@ramennight You're misunderstanding. 30% isn't the average, it's the minimum threshold for a cheetah to survive. The mean rate therefore has to be much higher in order to allow for a reasonable margin of error.
      Looking it up, it seems like the overall rate is around 60%.
