Anyone think we'll ever see another 37+ ppg season? I know MJ has a 35 ppg season along with Kobe, but 37 is just ridiculous on 48% shooting. Very next season he scores 35 a game on 54% shooting with 6 assists 3.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per. Simply amazing!
+Andrew Scott Yeah you can't do that in today's league. He wouldn't be as efficient. You look at the midrange shooting players today and they're average. Joe Johnson and the like. He would need to develop a three point shot
James Lockman My baw, I gotta disagree, when a player can create his own shot and move without the ball, why not pull up midrange ? I actually play ball at my community park, I pull up midrange more than any shot i take because that is my strongest part of my game. Defenders started to play me differently once i established an aggressive driving motion to the goal, they would leave me open to bait me in shooting wide open. What I am saying is the midrange jumpshot is a lost art in today's era of basketball. In order for a player to score 54 just of midrange shots, that player has to be in peak physical condition. He also has to be a decent ballhandler to create the necessary space to get the shot off. I think it is possible to score double digits in today's era of basketball using the midrange jumper. If players was able to do it back in the day, why wouldn't players be able to do it today ?
Andrew Scott The thing is, he would still be good, but not 25 ppg good because the fact of the matter is, the mid range shot just isn't as efficient and with improved defense, he wouldn't be as good attacking the basket
Tyler Southcott That's just not true. Defenses would rather give up a three than a layup. Small ball creates more space on the floor, but that doesn't mean help defense doesn't exist anymore
switchfootforever24 the Bulls were beyond bad this season and the few before it. They had no option other than feed Michael the ball, and their record reflected it. Their fortunes would change though when they pick up Scottie and Horace in the draft after the '87 season.
OK, at damn near 40 years old, MJ averaged 20 ppg on 45% shooting. To some of the idiots in the comments section that think he wouldn't average at least 29 ppg. are either 12 years old, and don't know the game of basketball, or just plain brand new fans that haven't played basketball a day in their lives, or just never watched the NBA til Lebron and Kobe came into the league. You guys are straight trolls.
MJ's the only player in history that can do Derrick Rose type layups, and vice versa. That's crazy how the 2 most poetic finishers in the league played for, and play for the same team.
Damn one on one defending was so much easier without the crossovers. Unless of course you had to defend an athlete like Jordan, then your screwed in any era, but if Jordan played today, it would be fucking over
Salute to Doug Collins.... Great coach & personality.... Very good player back in the day.. He loved Jordan... The Collins/Jordan era in Chicago didn't get rings but those were some of Jordan's best games scoring & exciting wise
3:27 How do you defend that ? If the defender goes with him, Jordan changes directions with a crossover and shots or drives further down the lane. I've never seen a quicker first step.
Man, basketball was such a congested game back then. Literally nobody spotting up at the 3-point line, everyone just standing around the key. Pretty much unthinkable in nowadays NBA.
Michael was too quick for this guys lol. U could see he would anticipate a move before the ball even got to him. Clyde was vertically explosive, but still couldn't compare to the cat-like quickness of jordan
RUclips search engine sucks man. Im looking for good 80's b-ball to watch so I search vintagedawkins 1985 1986 1987 so on, Dont find anything in 1980s and I search 1990 and then this comes up. Like what? Lol This is 2016 and you haven't come up with a better more accurate search engine. Damn RUclips
VintageDawkins- you need to upload that game where MJ drops 45 on The Sonics in the 1997 Season. Where he was wearing the White/Red (Japan) 12) on. Where George Karl says MJ is only a jump shooter now doesn't drive as much.
+Jordan Hovind In 2006, Kobe scored 52 against the Jazz, he shot 19/26. In 2007, Kobe scored 50 against the Super Sonics, he shot 18/25. In 2002, Kobe scored 56 against Memphis and shot 21/34. The 17/41 that you mentioned is the worst that Kobe has ever shot to score 50 or more, and it's one of only 6 games in which he scored 50 but did not make at least half of his shots. If you're gonna mention his worst shooting games then mention his best ones as well. There is no need to demean Kobe in order to make MJ look better, he is the GOAT and his stats can stand on their own.
Notice how MJ shot extremely well at high volume (34 fga), just like he did in the 1993 Finals and many other series.. Otoh, it's a statistical fact that Lebron isn't capable of good efficiency at high shot volume, since he's horrible at the additional midrange required of high volume shooting.. 27 shot attempts per game (the amount Lebron averaged in 2015 Playoffs) cannot be achieved on all 3-and-D - good midrange is needed to shoot well at this volume.. Accordingly, Lebron's career 37% midrange efficiency precludes him from ever shooting well at very high volumes - this is a statistical fact. In the Finals, there was no danger in letting Lebron shoot 39% at 33 fga, so there was no need to take the ball out of his hands to prevent the high volume.. Lebron's inability to have good efficiency at high volume allowed the Warriors to permit his secluded 1-on-1 clearouts all series long - it was part of their exploitative strategy.. They never double-teamed to take the ball out of his hands - no one has ever gotten such secluded clearouts, probably in history., So there's no excuse for Lebron's 39% shooting (other than him not being capable of good efficiency at high volume). Lebron's lack of midrange ability didn't just prevent him from good efficiency at high volumes and subsequent double-teams, but it prevents him from being as good in the 80's, when midrange was the primary option remaining in the absence of the 3-pointers necessary to make screen-roll/drive-and-kick mathematically worthwhile. These are just a small fraction of the many facts that make MJ far superior to Lebron.
The defense in this video by the Blazers is nonexistent. MJ got way too many open looks and drove at will with the defenders not even trying to get in his way. Still a great game by him, though.
Jesus-is LORD Maybe you should re watch the video, because the Blazers were slow footed to defend his drives to the rim (where he got open layups) and they sagged off of him in the mid range. Only about 3 or 4 of these shots were tough.
+Bae Bae Jordan shot 50% for his career during his stint in Chicago. He was an extremely efficient scorer. In this particular game he shot 20-34 58%. Efficiency has always been Jordan's game.
Unless LeBron get's at LEAST 3 more rings, which one of them he blew in the 2010 NBA Finals to be better than Kobe. Also, you have to be clutch to be the GOAT. And whether it's Kobe or MJ, LeBron isn't in the GOAT overall conversation because of lack of rings without a doubt and considered by a lot of people, isn't clutch or hasn't at least in the last 14 years shown it yet. Which both Kobe and MJ both are...CLUTCH!
People get on 18-26 year old kobe for clashing with Shaq but no way the guy I see in this video would have gotten along with Shaq. He even tried to kill Scottie's confidence anytime Scottie challenged him in practice. I love MJ and Kobe but get off Kobe Back.
Najee Fareed Jordan made Pippen what he was through trial-by-fire. Alphas only respect strength and power. Pippen was a weak player mentally and physically his first few years and MJ had to FORCE him into either raising his level or going away. Thankfully, Pippen eventually did shed his pussified ways and became a stud. At that moment, the entire NBA became property of the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael "Air" Jordan.
Look at who's guarding him none athletic white guys. And they're guarding him one on one wtf... no one ever thought of double teaming??? Yall just think mj never had flaws cmon now
He didn't need to shoot three's though, dudes couldn't guard him, he took it to the basket easily and had a great mid range game. Also when he did shoot threes, he would hit them when it matter most. I'm assuming you've never seen the dude play.
Michael Jordan be playing basketball like, his life depends on it.
MJ never took a 3pt shot to score the 53 points. he scored using is midrange jumper and attacking the basket.
+Andrew Scott Yeah you can't do that in today's league. He wouldn't be as efficient. You look at the midrange shooting players today and they're average. Joe Johnson and the like. He would need to develop a three point shot

Tyler Southcott
No it does matter because defenses clog the middle now so defenders can play tighter now
Andrew Scott
The thing is, he would still be good, but not 25 ppg good because the fact of the matter is, the mid range shot just isn't as efficient and with improved defense, he wouldn't be as good attacking the basket
Tyler Southcott
That's just not true. Defenses would rather give up a three than a layup. Small ball creates more space on the floor, but that doesn't mean help defense doesn't exist anymore
Michael Jordan *averaged* 37 points per game that season. THIRTY-SEVEN.
He avg 48 one season too!
+TIMOTHY HITT 43*
+Anthony Bailey Jr 88 season
switchfootforever24 the Bulls were beyond bad this season and the few before it. They had no option other than feed Michael the ball, and their record reflected it. Their fortunes would change though when they pick up Scottie and Horace in the draft after the '87 season.
@@timmyturner124
He avg what?
23years old with a 3,000 point season god blessed his soul
The one dislike is from Clyde Drexler.
Good vid man !
half way through the vid it's just the arena and on-court sounds. incredible stuff!
That is a Old Court from Chicago Arena.
Was thinking the same thing
24lakers09champs That is Not a United Center in Chicago.
Another great one Dawk, many thx!
Great upload, thank you so much!

You guys are straight trolls.
Even 12 years old kid would appreciate greatness. Those who don't, don't know anything about basketball.
King Tutt 29 PPG haha man MJ in his prime would averaged 40 Points a night with EASE. Even Ray Allen said it. Someone who played in both eras.
Day first step and jumper doe O.o
MJ's the only player in history that can do Derrick Rose type layups, and vice versa. That's crazy how the 2 most poetic finishers in the league played for, and play for the same team.
Prime wade had some major body control around the rim too
King Tutt No, Derrick Rose did MJ type layups. Jordan's game around the rim was Dr. J v3.0
Very efficient night for MJ
.I dont know how you got this but thank you
I always will thank Portland... the Jordan years were terrific.
#GOAT > Kobe >>> Lebron
What does Kobe and Lebron have to do with this.
LeBron>>Wade>>MJ
+yurtyybomb Kobetards will say Kobe is better than Jordan. He's just telling facts.
yurtyybomb When I'm a LaVine fan? LMAO
Lmao look at the shooting gaurds in that era lmao Kobe would be dropping those same numbers
Damn one on one defending was so much easier without the crossovers. Unless of course you had to defend an athlete like Jordan, then your screwed in any era, but if Jordan played today, it would be fucking over
There were a combined total of 4 three point attempts, none of which were made. Crazy how much the game has changed
And the fact that you can't touch perimeter players nowadays, and all the ticky tack fouls, he'd be even more of a beast.
yea thats true , but this is mj we're talkin bout , how many 90 stars would be more than what they were in todays game?
Salute to Doug Collins.... Great coach & personality.... Very good player back in the day.. He loved Jordan... The Collins/Jordan era in Chicago didn't get rings but those were some of Jordan's best games scoring & exciting wise
But He's Not a Nba Winning Coach Title from Chicago Bulls.
2:40 the commentators were so stunned they stopped commentating.
Ha!
Looking at that starting 5 it was a wonder that MJ reached the playoffs with that team at all.
3:27 How do you defend that ? If the defender goes with him, Jordan changes directions with a crossover and shots or drives further down the lane. I've never seen a quicker first step.

the GREATEST
Most players don't have the brain or the fundamentals to go with their athletic ability. Michael Jordan had an unlimited supply of ALL 3!!
Fast-paced, physical, and exciting to watch. I can't stand today's NBA. It's too sloppy, too many threes, and the players have poor fundamentals.
where do you find these games?
Nba channel
Nba tv
WTF! he is so speed
Is it me or is the video sped up?
I Don't Know.
no, he’s just that fast
IQ was crazy, always set up the defender with a jab step or pump fake.
michaelmaynard1 how hard is that my guy lol. IQ has more to do with spacing and anticipation.
He went 20/34 to score 53 meanwhile Kobes goin 17/41 to score 50 but that's none of my business
Lmao Kobe is a shot chucker
+Jordan Hovind You can suppport MJ without hating on Kobe.
+Jordan Hovind In 2006, Kobe scored 52 against the Jazz, he shot 19/26. In 2007, Kobe scored 50 against the Super Sonics, he shot 18/25. In 2002, Kobe scored 56 against Memphis and shot 21/34. 50+ with no threes haha crazy scoring

+Achutha Srinivasan Remind of the Bobcats when Lebron scored 61.
+Achutha Srinivasan Defesne was good, what are you talking about?
+Jesus-is LORD No it wasn't. Josh McRoberts and Anthony Tolliver sagging off of LeBron James for half of the game is not good defence.

I think kevin durant is the best player in the world.... he has two final mvp in golden state
Lebron >>>kobe
When this' a Jordan's video? Come on man!
Jordan has 24 in the first half *portland still up 11* lol. He was playing with garbage.
Wer ist auch von 1 Boy von 1 Twitter h1er?
0 threes! And scored 53
Mul
Mj sucks from 3 point range. his early years he averaged like 1 attempt a game
So? He still got buckets
Yeah and not chucking em up helped him dominate even more. God you're retarded

not to be blasphemous but he looks like wiggins right here. Or wiggins looks like him. Its all in the mindset of wiggins now.
I agree. Wiggins has a lot of young MJ in his game. He'll be an all star in a year or two imo
+FrankoiNHD I see him too. They both have really big hands
+FrankoiNHD yeah. Him AD, and Wiggins will be the future of the NBA
