Hi guys. Great topic. Just wanted to say that the whole "John was inspired to make music again by Paul's COMING UP" has become waaayyy overstated. Yes, John liked the "freaky version" of Paul's song, but the only accounts of that are: the Fred S. book where John expressed excitement over hearing the new song on a car radio, and also that wonderful video of a candid studio discussion from 1980 where John says he liked the freak version and disliked that the record company turned it around on Paul and pushed for the live version as the hit. Great information to know for sure, but it was more the B-52s' ROCK LOBSTER that lit up Lennon's creative juices, as he believed the group had caught up to what Yoko had been doing. These days some Paul fans (not just you guys) are wanting to give McCartney all the credit for "making John go back into the studio", and I don't think that was exclusively the case, although I'm sure it was one of the ingredients in the overall stew, let's say.
We definitely are not one to give Paul so much credit. I brought it up as a possible motivating factor because I trust the info in Ken Womack’s great book. I understand he got that quote from FS, but I never said it was the sole motivating factor behind John’s comeback. I first said the trip to Bermuda, with a little Coming Up sprinkled in. 😁
I know I am coming, very late in life, to better appreciate the genius of John Lennon partly due to your youtube comments. So there you go you had indfuence on others.
So will you guys be doing another video and will it be your comeback. Would it be harder to do a low points video? How old does one have to be to know these things from personal experience?
John really loved ‘do that to me on more time’. Don’t forget the captain and tennille played on early version of im Losing you right before cheap trick. There’s a Lennon outtake with Daryl and Toni jamming on don’t worry kyoko and muskrat love. They were all going to tour in 1981. John loved Toni’s voice
Paul was mostly promoting Best of and Once Upon.., rather than Press to Play. Paul has said more than a couple of times he doesn't like Press to Play. It really isn't cut out to be an album to tour on. Remember on the Put it There doco he says he wanted to put an an album good enough to tour on. So he knew PTP wasn't good enough. Apparently the Princess Royal Concert where he performed live got his heart up pounding and desire to play live again. I am a Macca fan but I have never connected with Red Rose Speedway and the medley is crap!!! My Love was a great song primarily due to Henry's improvised guitar brilliance. Whilst Wild Life is also sadly lacking at least he has some kind of honest energy and rawness to it. Ram = brilliant. So yes a Macca fan but one happy to be jonest about his weeker periods. Remove Off the Ground and Driving Rain and then you have a complete run of great Macca albums. Driving Rain is so dull. So you would have Flowers in the Dirt, Unplugged, Flaming Pie, Chaos and Ceation, Memory Almostb Full g Best of and Once Upon.., rather than Press to Play. He really had three artistic (not necessarily commercial) duds with OTG DR but also Pipes of Peace. So with Pipes out what a run of albums you would have. But here I am engaging in silliness as that is the removal of three albums. With John on board imagine how great those incredible the better albums would have been. Whereas the 3 duds well I guess they simply would have been discarded. A hypothetical and subjective list of good to excellent Macca albums... McCartney, Ram, Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, Wings Live, At the Speed of Sound (only just!), Wings Greatest, Tug of War, Flowers in the Dirt, Tripping the Light Fantastic, Unplugged, Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run, Chaos and Ceation, Memory Almost Full, Kisses on the Bottom (one that is conentious but I just adore My Valentine), NEW, Egypt Station and McCartney 3. Then taking the best tracks from the duds... Dear Friend, My Love, With a Little Luck, Coming Up, No More Lonely Nights, Hope of Deliverance, add the non-album singles Mull of Kintyre, Girl's School, Another Day, Live and Let Die, Hi Hi Hi, Spies Like Us, Goodnight Tonight, Why So Blue?, Vanilla Sky. Ah but to dream!
Both are wrong. John said in Lisa Robinson interview and in Kenny Womack’s book and to jackie Douglas it was Robbie dupreys ‘steal away’. When he heard it in April 1980 on way to cold spring harbor John yelled to Fred from the backseat of the station wagon ‘take down the axe and call mother’
Great discussion guys. So many what if’s and what could have been for all 4. And yes where are the London Town and Back to the Egg boxes????
❤❤❤

It was steal away and ride like the wind that propelled John back to studio. He loved longer than by Danny fogelbergh too which he covered in Dakota 😊
Welcome back boys!
It is SO good to be back. Life gets crazy sometimes and family and health take priority over everything. But this show keeps me sane.
So will you guys be doing another video and will it be your comeback. Would it be harder to do a low points video? How old does one have to be to know these things from personal experience?
