    • @cuzz63
      @cuzz63 3 года назад

      Not much..often less than 5hp since the alternator has to provide more power under load. The advantage of electric is you can turn them off so no load at those times and they weigh less. A clutch fan can have two failure modes: the clutch will fail, or the fan will physically break. The electric fan introduces many more failure points: fuse, all wiring connections, physical failure of the fan, failure of the motor, failure of the thermostat.

    Just wonder what kind of hp you think the high ram will support for a Windsor? My current setup is a 626hp 393 also. It’s a super victor with a dominator flange. Building a 14-1 445 and was thinking about running this with dual 750 Holley hp’s. Heads are ported kaase p-38s and flow a little over 350cfm. Looking to make 750-800 n/a. I’ve watched some videos of these making in the mid 600’s but none doing what I’m wanting to do. Any input would be appreciated.

      The Hi-Ram based for the 8.2 decks have a smaller cross section and longer runners than the 9.5 deck version.. the 8.2 deck seems to be happy around the 600hp range.. the 9.5 version is a much more serious piece. It will be perfect on a 445" setup making 750-850hp! I'm going that route on my Project MIXED UP BOSS

    I'm a Big FORD Guy, Mainly into the Cleveland's and 429-460 Engines. But messed around with some 302, 351 Windsors, i know about the different deck heights, were you using those adapters because of the 8.2 Deck Height with intake for a Bigger deck height ? I know a Little more about the Cleveland's and 460,s Currently got a 521 Stroked BBF in my 86 Mustang, built it up bout 10 Years Ago N/A through a 1000 cfm 4150, Mild Solid Roller, Out of the Box Trickflow Street/Strip Heads, Going Low to Mid Nines on 275/60 Drag Radials. Just curious as to why you were using the adapter ? Doesn't the small Ford's come either 8.2 or 8.5 Deck Heights ? And the 351 Windsor 9.2 or 9.5 ? Were those Tunnel Rams for a 351 Windsor ? Just curious.

      Bad Ass 6.0 Powerstroke : The Joe Davis Mod was needed because this was a ported by David Vizard intake from a 302 with 80 hrs of die grinding and some flow bench work. Now there are 351W intakes that dont need the Price 8.206 to 9.469 or 9.500 inch adaptors. As you know, we all talk about Modular engines with the 4.6/5.0/5.2/5.4 V8 and 6.8 V10 Windsor and Romeo and Taskid "cammers", but Ford used modular concepts in all its old variable deck in line small sixes and the SBF Windsors and 335s and 385 Limas. The 221 to 302; 8.206. 302C, 351C, 9.206. 351M/400 13.206. 370/429/460 13.306 if I recall. The little 200 six, 7.803. The 250 9.469. Essex 90 degree V6, 9.469. The Windsor, Cleveland, Lima, Essex plants just flitched up the intakes and then made XE prototype castings. To use the existing hours of effort put into 100% cutting edge flow bench work from people who worked with Andy, adaptors were the best option. The TIG welded section solved a very specific problem. It was brave but sensible to to it that way. 351 W Holley's werearound when the concept was started, but the advice was to use the smaller runners of the 302 High Ram for a 600 hp net engine.Bet its more thsn that now though. Re-read Andys specific details on thr heads and DV cam specs...all Andy's responses are better than anything I can say. I have seen spacers used often down here in New Zealand and Australia because we use better 289/302 and 302C/351C stuff on 351 Windsors often. The work done on little 302s and Cleveland heads can then be transfered to the more reliable 351W block with the cost of Prices spacers a negligable factor in the Grand Scheme. That 14 rear wheel hp from the gas flowed 302 spec narrow intake will be a lot more than 14 hp and ft lbs at the flywheel. Very special to make such a huge increase!

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  2 года назад

      No... We didnt Dyno it in stock form but we did put it on the flowbench.. bolted to my heads which flowed 315cfm it dropped to 240cfm even after porting it flowed only around 275cfm.. you must remember that manifold was made in a time of no aftermarket heads... So it worked well on stock and ported stock heads...

    I noticed with the Weiand Ram that the secondaries were independent of each other.....on the Holley you switched the tops and connected the vacuum that the carbs were seeing with a vacuum tube. Why not have equal springs on the secondaries and the vacuum connection on both the Weiand and the Holley? You speak of ruling out variables and, right there, you introduced a variable that should have been eliminated. Perhaps your dyno results will hold up but equal means equal on the set up and it appears to me that you did not do that.

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  3 года назад

      It had the vacuum balance hose on both before with the weiand and the Holley intakes... They both use the same spring in the carbs but they can have slightly different opening rates and that is why vacuum hose is needed.. they both open at the same time. Thanks for Watching

  • @stevesolo16
    @stevesolo16 4 года назад +2

    I like the smooth contours of the older hi-rise. But, the beauty of the newer ram is you can better LAMBDA tune with the runners directly under the carb venturies. I think the results are going to be close with the newer one coming out a head because the runners are placed better.

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  4 года назад +1

      You are dead on with that Steve.. the runners of the old manifold were WAY to small as well... We had 80hrs of grinding in the old manifold trying to get enough flow to support 600hp. I can also tell that having the runners separated helps from "in between cylinder robbing" in holes 6 and 5. We are building Casper's next Engine.. I could be totally wrong about this, but I was always under the impression that these tall, tunnel ram style intakes were better suited to higher RPM drag racing applications, and not ideal for lower RPM street use, and even less suitable for heavier street vehicles like trucks, which rely even more on low RPM power. Is that not the case?

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  3 года назад +3

      That is an old misconception... I believe it comes from folks back in the ProStreet days where people would put them on pretty much stock engines and lack of tuning..
      From all of my testing I have ran them on everything from 302's to Big Blocks and when tuned right they deliver a very broad power curve..( that is as long as the runners are long and not like some of the short runner sheet metal versions you might see out there) they are really in the middle between a dual plane and single plane on low end torque production but around 4500-5000 the topend power surpasses the single plane intakes... My 393w had excellent drivability even off of idle! Once you drive a tunnel ram vehicle with properly tuned carbs... It will blow your mind!

      Well that's good news, because they obviously look cool too! If tunnel rams do make good power all around, then they'll be helpful to Chevy owners, who are always trying (in vain)to find new ways to make their engines even remotely competitive with blue oval engines. Obviously it's an impossible situation. So I kinda feel for them..... 😁

    • @HighlanderNorth1
      @HighlanderNorth1 3 года назад

      @@UnityMotorSportsGarage
      I think I might have been confusing things. I used to hear people say that the dual plane intakes were better for street use, and the single plane intakes were better for higher rpm strip use. The confusion arises because the typical 80s & 90s era dual plane intakes were lower/shorter, and more "tame" and stock looking. Whereas the single plane Victor style intake manifold look significantly taller, and are more aesthetically similar to a tunnel ram. So when I saw a tunnel ram, I equated its advantages and disadvantages to what I used to read about single plane Victor style intake manifolds.

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  3 года назад +1

      @@HighlanderNorth1 when comparing intakes... Dual planes have 4 long and 4 short runners.. this gives a broad powerband, single planes have 8 short runners, which tunes to a higher rpm while the tunnel ram has 8 long equal length runners with a straight shot down the Intake port.. this will give a huge bump in midrange torque and out power the single plane up top.. the biggest thing is Carb tuning! But once you get that dialed in... It's a win win situation! I say if you have hood clearance don't be afraid of the Ram...

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage

      So you can run a 289/302 8.2 deck manifold on a 351w! Back when I first built the engine.. Holley didn't offer a 351w Hi-Ram yet.. so I wanted a Tunnel Ram to look period correct... I had Bill at Pricemotorsports make the adapters so I could make it all work... I did pick up a 351w Hi-Ram intake but after some work on the flowbench.. we found out that with runner size it would work better with at least 427" and making 750+hp.. What are the Price Motorsports adapter plates for?

    • @UnityMotorSportsGarage
      @UnityMotorSportsGarage  4 года назад +2

      Good question... Back in 70's into the mid to late 80's there wasn't many performance options as intakes go for the 351w. Back then if you built a 351 it was a Cleveland! So with many options being available to fit the 289/302 companies begin to offer adapter plates so you could bolt a 302 intake onto the 9.5 Windsor engine! Once the 90's arrived the Clevelands died off and the Windsor then became the "one to build" so companies started making Intakes for the Windsor..EXCEPT Tunnel Ram intakes..There was one produced for a short time but it was discontinued way back... So if you wanted a tunnel ram on a Windsor your choices were... Have a custom sheet metal one made or Adapt one for the 302 to your engine... So when I built this engine I wanted a tunnel ram.. and I went the adapter route! Two weeks after I had bought them.. Holley released the Hi-Ram for the Windsor.. David Vizard and I picked one up but found the runners to be too large for this combo... So I stuck to the original plan until Holley brought one out to fit the 302! The runners were perfect for 600hp!
      Hope this helps answer your question

    Even more power with efi. Tunnel rams with carbs are always carrying a flat spot due to the distance between the carb and the combustion chamber. Most guys over fuel at idle to compensate which makes them soot up with the extra fuel at idle/part throttle. They do look awesome.
