Hi Phil. I don't know if you'll see this comment but I put a new ram into my laptop and its now not booting up. Fans start up and keyboard lights up but nothing appears on screen.

Hello, sorry for the late reply. If after installing new RAM you have no display, it’s usually due to improper installation, incompatible RAM, or BIOS/UEFI settings. The first thing I always recommend is to check with the laptop manufacturer that the RAM you installed in indeed compatible. The next thing to try would be to simply remove the new RAM and re-seat it, ensuring it is firmly in place and pressed all the way into the slot. Lastly, a BIOS update may resolve this issue, although you would have to uninstall the RAM first, perform the BIOS update, then re-install it after you have the latest firmware.

Though this is an old comment, it might still help others. I experienced the same issue with my FX516PM when I installed Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM. On booting, I got a black screen with the keyboard lights on and the battery light flashing white. Removing the incompatible RAM fixed it, so I’m back to using my Crucial 8GB stick until I find a compatible upgrade.

Pardon my math, but if 8Gbs of the 16Gbs installed is soldered, then if I install a 32Gbs RAM card won't I be using 40Gbs RAM total? Sorry for the stupid question, but I see everybody talking as if it's 32Gbs total so I'm not sure how to take this info. xD

Hint on the screws… least on my tuf f15 the two sizes of screws had a different color threadlock… the slightly shorter ones used blue threadlock, and the long screws used a light gold/yellowish threadlock … really glad I caught your video because I didn’t notice at first when I was disassembling… thanks for saving me from longscrewing and possibly damaging the laptop😅

@@kricketto_ I bought the 8gig model with the intention of directly upgrading it to 16 on the first day. I ran the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark before the upgrade and the ram was really causing a bottleneck, fps dropped to about 10 when the benchmark scene changed to outdoors. Task manager was showing about %95 ram utilization. Installing the second ram stick made the game playable by my standards, now I get min 30 max 70 fps on medium settings with dlss on (rtx3050).

I have the same model of laptop and my question was what actually happened if I put a 32 GB ram in the available slot, since the video does not show it in configurations that happen with the ram. I do not speak English and in some parts the subtitles do not appear. I half understood it. when placing a 32 gb and having 8 gb soldered to the board, that really adds up or it only recognizes the 32 gb or it only recognizes the 8 gb

Manufacturers should really lower the amount of screws they use...and...the screws should stay in place instead of being lose-able. With my old Acer V3-772g I can remove the lid and the screws stay in the lid no matter what. With the new notebook: not so much.

While not necessary for operation, the thermal shield can protect your drive from premature failure and excess heat damage. You can find them at Amazon: geni.us/QipdAuR [Amazon Affiliate Product Link]

Thanks for this video. It made it so much easier to upgrade the ram! Can I ask ask a question? Your ram slot had a metal heat shield it looked like, mine was just the flappy black plastic, is that going to be a problem?

Thanks for this guide. Just what we needed.
I have a question on the thermal cover - can you provide a bit more guidance here. The ones in the laptop are different from the ones I find on the Amazon affiliate link. I'm just not sure what will fit, as in the video it looks like a thin aluminium layer, nothing like the heatsinks suggested. Thanks :)

Hey, I have a question I hope you can answer. So, I have the same ASUS TUF Dash F15 and I want to install a 2TB SSD instead of just 1TB but I heard it might cause heating problems, is this true?

Too bad I can't add a new SSD with mine since the damn screw won't come off in the M.2 2nd slot. I suspect that blue thing they add got stuck or some factory worker mistakenly used glue.

Not really, SSD's don't get that hot to require an heat shield.
