    Lyrics:
Daddy made some promises he couldn’t keep
Momma said you’ll still see him every other week
    You didn’t understand
You were just a kid back then
Two bedrooms in two houses, different sides of town
Feeling like a deck of cards, always shuffled round
With pain that no one knows
Guess that’s the way it goes
But if I could talk to that younger me
I’d hold him close and I’d say these things
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
And there is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
There might be a day you think it’s all your fault
Beating yourself up for reasons that don’t make sense at all
    It was not your fault
    It was not your fault
And you’ll wonder if your father’s sins are in your blood
Cause you’ll make mistakes you don’t think you’ll find your way back from
    But I know you will
    The morning’s coming still
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
And there is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
And it’s ok to be mad
    It’s ok to cry
And to ask your mom and ask your dad
    Why oh why
    And it’s ok to feel
Like you’re lost upon the sea
Cause this isn’t how it was meant to be
But you’ll grow up, fall in love, and hold your kids
And you’ll know that you can do things different than they did
And all the hell you’ve seen
    Heaven will redeem
All of your tomorrows don’t depend on your yesterdays
There is more to living than the way that you were raised
If I’m honest, some things heal
If I’m honest, some things won’t
But you don’t have a broken future
You don’t have to have a broken future
Just cause you’re from a broken home
Just cause you’re from a broken home

This is an anthem for God's beloved children who are brokenhearted over broken homes.

I love this so much. I’ve been raised in a Christian household but by my grandparents. My dad was barely present in my early childhood and is now absent but trying to come back. I always worry about my future and how I’ll be able to be a parent when I didn’t have mine. Thank the Lord that our tomorrows don’t depend on our yesterdays!

There has never been a song that more perfectly, word for word, explains the pain and confusion I felt as a kid. I was living out of a suitcase as I spent week after week, year after year, bouncing between my parent’s houses. I always felt like I did something. I developed overeating and gained weight because of my depression. I made a promise to my wife and myself that I would break that generational curse and NEVER put my kids through that. I live by Phil 4:13 now. “I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength”. Thank you, Austin, for this song. I’m in the middle of 21 Days of Prayer and I just came across this and I feel God sent me thins song to cure me of my past and open my eyes for the future. God is good, all the time!

Songs like this, & this 1, help us to grieve healthily by prayer to our caring heavenly Father. A Christian psychologist said it is harmful to our soul/pyche to not grieve over our losses in life. & certainly that would be true over the heartbreak/s we have suffered from "broken" childhoods. We need to allow ourselves to grieve; but inviting God to share our grief with us, & looking to him for healing, is the healthiest (=healingest) way.

I tell my boys all the time, I promise I will fail them from time to time. That just creates the chance for me to point them to the perfect example of our heavenly Father. I thank God for how He turned my life around, so my boys wont have to live this song out.

Strength, my brother. It must be very difficult: difficult to love your father, difficult to forgive. He also needs God, Christ, like all of us. I know it is very difficult to live in such an environment, but no matter how difficult it is, do not feel anger or hatred towards it. Since Christ forgave us, I will pray for you, my brother. Cheer up and continue trusting in God, and that everything will be resolved. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write to me.

After all the bad things happened (domestic violance, my father had an affair, etc), I find its a blessing I met Jesus when I was a kid. I am 32 now. There are some pains healed, some lingers. Yet the love of God helps me to be different, I am not bound by the mistakes of my parents. Thank you Mr French. Its always uplifing to hear your song, keep up the good work. @Austin French, you and I share the same story, I've seen my mom cry when I was small, get frustrated because my father did something bad bad. It was hard for both of us, but because of my grandparents and the grace of God and His hand on us, today I've grown more into Jesus more than ever, I never knew love of a father, but after knowing Christ, I know the love of a father far more than I could've ever imagined, I Love my heavenly father so much and He loves me more. And nothing can change that, Amen! Praise Be To God! ❤❤❤❤✝

Thank you for releasing this, Austin. My mom saw you in Fayetteville a couple weeks back and came home and said I needed to hear this song. I’m walking through divorce, myself, right now after experiencing betrayal and broken promises. Every single time I have to pack up my two babies and send them across town to stay with their dad, like I just did three hours ago, my heart shatters into a million pieces. It’s an endless pain, and a situation that I never expected me or my precious and innocent children to be in. My greatest fear is that they will be affected by this, something they didn’t ask for, forever. But surely- “All the hell they’ve seen, all of Heaven will redeem.” That’s the only thing that keeps me going. Thank you for sharing your heart and pointing us all back to the hope of the redeeming cross.

    • @ellenyearick1039
      @ellenyearick1039 Месяц назад

God's ways of redeeming heartcrushing tragedies of our past (or present) can be very painful. Look at the life of Joseph, Moses, David, Paul, etc. We all suffer our share in this world. But if we stick with the Friend who sticks closer than a brother, God has his ways of working out the injustice & all the pain to do something amazingly GOOD. SEE Romans 8, espec. 28 thru end chapter. Genesis 45 & 50:19-21. It would do us all good to read this entire story about Joseph's calamities & God's redemption of them.
+ Lamentations 3:18-26. As Max McLean always says: "Read the Bible, it is good for the soul.".

    Tears are streaming!
I was from a broken home .. 7 different times. My parents were married 4 times each. And I had siblings scattered all over.
And then I grew up and tolerated so much crap to hang onto a marriage so that my kids didn’t go through what I did- a broken home! But after 7 years I couldn’t take it anymore and my boys deserved better, I deserved better. I found Jesus and He rescued my story and saved me from my myself. I then met the most amazing man that raised my boys like they were his own. That was over 27 years ago now. We’ve been married now 25 years and have a daughter together. But I still struggle even after my mom has passed away. And my boys haven’t spoken to their biological father in over 4 years. It’s an extremely difficult road to walk and only Jesus got us through it with lots of prayer and therapy!! So if you’re going through this journey hold on tight to Jesus and fight for peace, love and forgiveness in your heart. Don’t let bitterness get in because that’s what will take you down a path that you can’t recover from! ❤

I never planned for my son to know what it's like to live between two house holds. I always wanted him to know what its like to live in a household where he is loved and his daddy never leaves. I thought I could create for him. I thought I could make him stay. And I prayed and I prayed for him to stay. But people turning from me and confusion gripping me led me to a man who loves me and treats me like Christ and gives me hope every day, that even though I don't understand, I am loved. A lot of people I thought would be there have hurt me to a degree that I also don't understand. But it's led me to lean on Christ the way I should have from the beginning, and for that I am grateful. I'm sorry it took this, but I'm happy God came through even when I didn't think He would.
I thought because of this past that I had to have a broken future, that I was forever stuck in this mindset, in this broken state. I don't know how I got there but I have no one to blame but the devil. Thank you Lord for delivering me and setting me free!!! Thank you that that is not my future and you have better for all of your children!!!! Halleluyah!!!!! Amen and Amen!!!!! Praise God!!!!!!

Since June, I have been dealing with my parents divorcing, my dad having broken his vows.
I'm 17, and don't technically have to live in my broken home for long, only a year and I can move away and have a fresh start, but my siblings don't have that luxury, and I hate all of this for them.
It's been the saddest time of my life, and I've been sustained only by prayer and my intense desire to be a better husband and father than my dad has shown himself to be.
This song is so heartbreakingly real for me, and I'm glad my uncle found it for me, thank you

It is good that you have vowed to yourself to not be an unfaithful husband, as your father was: But always REMEMBER that it is God, our intimate relation to Him, & the strength we get from his word, that enables us to keep such vows. Ask Austin, & see if he agrees that is true : unless you already are convinced. That knowledge is the reason that men in older history, had a habit of saying, "God help me, i will do or not do such & so.. Or, with God's help, +.

Only God heals broken hearts & lives. & He usually doesn't work in a hurry. We will usually be experiencing ill effects from the maltreatment for the remainder of our lives. i & my siblings have. But God is beneficient, and He is love. & when we keep going to Him, & put forth the effort to honor & obey, He goes on helping us throughout life. We can count on him ! see Psalm 27, + 42-43, & 62. + Psalm 118.

Thank you for writing this Austin.💞 This is my story, as well. I know I made a lot of poor choices when I was a teen and into my 20's (I'm 56 now), not realizing it was due to having abandonment issues. Though, I do take full ownership of those choices. I'm thankful the Lord has forgiven and healed me from the hurt and my relationship with my father, but I am very aware that I don't have the type of father/daughter relationship that some have, who had their father with them in the growing years. I know my father tried, but I'm sure he was broken to. This song really hits home.🙏

Man this song breaks my heart. I grew up in a really good situation. Not perfect but good. But knowing this song related to so many people hurts my heart. May God heal all of you.

Thank you for your sentiment. i hope that is your prayer for us all & not only a wish into the wind. We can all benefit from petitions to Him for the great help/healing we need. As you said, there are manyof us. The USA has been producing lots & lots of brokenhearted sons & daughters for a long long time.

68 yrs old and this made me cry. We kids just never heal. Take the heartbreak of a sensitive child, add an alcoholic stepfather and a narcissistic stepmother, mom n dad so infatuated with their new mate that they believe any lie told about you....abuse without a support system...one very messed up girl. Never believed for one minute that 'love' wasn't a word people just tossed around like 'Hello'. My little brother was 9 when mom n dad divorced. When he was 32 he told me he was still hoping mom n dad would get back together. I cried for him. People don't know what they do to their kids. It's so sad. This is why it is said that the greatest gift parents can give their children is to love each other. Speak lovingly, kindly to your spouse so your kids know mom n dad are in love. In that is a child's greatest security.

That was well communed, & thank you for sharing. I am going to pray for God to help you & your bro. & pray for salvation for you 2 & your parents. God IS good & He helps those who seek Him. ★Lamentations 3:21‐18-26. (These verses can help even if we didn't cause our troubled life, as the people of Israel caused theirs.) Psalm 73:23-28=end chapter.

Back when I was in the foster care system and in the hands of my evil mother I used to think things would never get better for me. A decade later, I graduated from USC and am working on helping others who were directly or indirectly impacted by their parents poor choices get their lives put back together

Thank you Austin French so much for releasing this! My husband and I went to a big daddy weave in Jonesboro AR! You came on stage and told your testimony then sang this song! The whole time I was in TEARS! As soon as it was over I was the very first person to Stand up and clap! This song was the first song that EVER related to my life! We don't have the same exact story but I felt every single word in this song! My husband told me you released this today and I've been listening to it ALL day long! Thank you for having the courage to put this out and giving us the opportunity to listen and share this song🤍🫶🏻

Recieve Jesus as it's what your Father said. Like a little kid. Oh what's that daddy. Oh that a bird. Ok. Hey daddy look that's a bird.
