I've owned both sexes. Our last GS purebred lived to be 16.She was NEVER aggressive, was always friendly and loving with everyone, other dogs, cats, animals and loved and enjoyed attention. Lol she'd of let anyone in the front door. My current GS is a purebred 5 years old female, and definitely opposite our old gal. Alpha by nature, extremely smart but therefore definitely was/is more stubborn to train. She does not seek attention. Being Alpha personality she is very dominant, territorial, on guard at ALL times, can be aggresive and fears no one, trusts no one except me not even my husband or grown kids and is extremely protective of ME. So without proper and constant training and socializing, no doubt would be way more aggressive. She loves our young grandkids and my cats..she knows they are mine. Through socializing, she is good with other small children, plus other dogs, and animals but as an Alpha, ALWAYS on guard, and always wary of any adults/ kids even if she has met them before.
I Had my Daisy for 16 years and 11 and was GSD . She gave birth to 5 females & one male moreover lost 2 babes during surgery. I still have her daughter Eva and she is 12 years and five months old . I presume you need to do more analysis, You have to take care of one Female GSD and you know what hit you......See your comments after 15 years Bro...
@@Raven-lc5zd , “Alpha” isn’t a real thing in the dog world. Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years. Don’t listen to debunked self appointed dog trainers.
I brought home a male West German Show variety GSD in October of 2018 and he has been 100% Alpha every day of his life. He and I live alone and he is friendly with only three of my neighbors. He was easy to train and obedient but inherent traits can easily override that training in a moment's notice. Augie is now six years old and he is beginning to show signs of early hip dysplasia. He is on meds for it and they help a lot but he has become more aggressive since then which I believe is a case of a sense of vulnerability and he employs overt "threats" by intimidation to prevent actual physical encounters. He has been a handful even as a puppy but I wouldn't have him any other way. The Lord put him in my life for a reason and I fear nothing with hm near me.
@@SuziQ. An example of Alpha behavior can be seen, but certainly not limited to, sled dog teams. The lead dog is selected due to its drive and Alpha behavior by displaying control over the other dogs. I have owned three German Shepherds. The first two were both female and of the American Show variety. They were "normal" dogs who could walk off-leash in public and not be aroused by just anyone near-by yet they would exhibit defensive tendencies should I act defensive first. Augie, my current GSD, is a West German Show variety and has displayed his Alpha nature from the time I first brought him home at 2 1/2 months old and he has made it into a fine art during his six years of life. He is THE top dog whenever another dog is seen and he lets them know through intimidating body posturing and vocalizations. At 88 lbs., he can break free of my grasp at any time but he does not. Rather, he will present an aggressive appearance that flat works. That intimidation is Alpha behavior.
I am a Zoology grad that lived where there are many wolves. I am most interested in Canine biology and have studied canine ethology most of my life. There is a sexual difference in male to females in German Shepherds. I have had many over my life, my preferred breed. Dr. Stanley Coran's group has said that German Shepherds are the breed most like the wolf behaviorally. Female Shepherds are most interested in the Family unit. They become obsessed with the family. while males are into the protection of the property, females are too to a lessor degree. My last Shepherd was a female, and I think she was a wonderful protector for my wife, who died of Alzheimer's, the Grand Children and one of the very smartest shepherds that I have ever owned. It was a male Shepherd that saved my ex's life. Lucky people have security systems. The Very fortunate have a Shepherd.
I’m sorry to hear about your wife. I’m a retired nurse, seen my share. We just picked up our 3rd GS. Our first was a female. She lived to 11. Monte, who passed unexpectedly last Thursday was almost 10 but volvulus (always my nightmare) took him. An exceptional dog in every way. Now our female is almost 12 weeks. Monte was a piece of cake to train. This female pup is proving to be a tad stubborn and vocal but, I like it. Everyone loves their dogs. Everyone of them are the best. German Shepherd’s have that something else that that proves elusive to describe. The protection is paramount to me. I live in rural Maine. About 8 years ago there was a string of home burglaries in the area. Went to a local meetup with State Police and they said no home with a dog was burglarized. I had a big smile hearing that. I appreciate your post here. I love wolves. I saw a large one around 20 years ago nearby. Nobody believed me but, I know a coyote from a wolf. Also, Monte sang (not howled) along with my harmonica playing. When he sang he took it seriously. Like his whole heart was into it. There’s a clip on RUclips with someone playing Ave Maria on drinking glasses. Monte sang along to this with near perfect pitch. Very solemn when he did this. I’m still not over him. The snow is melting and with it his paw prints are disappearing by the hour. I weep for him. I miss him. But, this puppy is in a home of love. She knows that. To me, German Shepherd’s just want to be with you. Period. They want to herd you. Monte surely thought I couldn’t move around the house without his direction! It’s extremely endearing. Like I always said to Monte “You’ve got my back and I’ve got yours!” Regards
@@bebopredux Wow I feel sorry for people that don't get to see wolves. Literally every time I went West to Banff, I saw wolves. They were in the tree line watching. One time I stopped my car to open my Gator Aid I looked up and I had Timber wolves surrounding my car. I was in a VW Jetta so they were looking down at me. 7 or 8 of them. On all sides. There is real love in a Shepherd for her family. When my wife passed, my dog got up and walked away., she knew it was over. But when her friends came to get her clothes for the women's shelter, my dog picked up my wife's tennis shoes and walked off. She kept those shoes in one of her beds around the house until the day that she died. If you think about it, a dogs primary sensory input is their sense of smell. Not their eyes like a primate. She kept a memento of my wife in the best way that she could.
I was also a Zoology grad and have had 25 years of pairs of GSDs. They all protected me and my husband. Once it was 2 female and a male to chased away a burglar all together late at night. Last was a lone female who blocked a burglar inside the house for 20 minutes until the police came. She was perfect ,is now 10 and very healthy, never a single medical problem. My young male is the most active and highest German line working dog I have ever had. He barks at every stranger, but is very friendly when I signal him to be. He is only 2 years old. He and my older Heidi work well together in protection.
My female GSD was the most beautiful and loving dog I ever had. Sheila was used as a puppy breeding machine until she turned 8 years old. She had a brilliant pedigree, all German, and was a straight back, so didn't have hip problems. She lived till she was 14 years old, our male GSD collapsed with hip problems at 9 years. My experience with GSD is that females are more loving and amazing with children.
I disagree with my female shepherd to Clingy & always start the barking outside. My male Rottweiler is so good outside until she starts the barking shit. He plays with the kids like a gentle giant and protective of entire family. When she plays with the kids, meaning the female shepherd is very friggly. The last female & male shepherds we had were golden!!! He lasted 12 years and Her 14 years. I've been around Rottweilers since 1975 , I help cleaning & walking my friends' dogs. Since 1990, that's the only dog i would ever have male Rottweilers. The females are very spiteful had two female Rottweilers never again.
my girl was just passed 10 years of age when she passed , just like your girl her back was straight but also did the same as your boy , out the blue she had just started to drag her back right then down she went
Our female Shepard is a titanic b×××h. We do love her but not because she goes out of her way to be lovable. She is 6 years old and has graced us with 3 or 4 kisses.
@@johnmorell2663That's down to it not having a job and being bored no offence buts that's on your part these dogs will be very anxious if they don't have a role. Can't blame the dog it's the owner
Our female GSD was not only breathtakingly gorgeous, she was obedient, loyal, protective, brave, sweet, loving, and lived to age 13. The problem with GSD's, m or f, is extreme breeding that destroys the hips. The challenge with female GSD's is not the dog but irresponsible owners. People who won't devote the expense and effort a dog of any kind requires don't deserve to own or be loved by one, especially a GSD.
All these topics go for the male too. You have to get them nutierd. Then can also have temperament problems. At this point you are just making up ideas for videos
Neutering a dog isn't necessary, it's more of a trend nowadays. I never neuter my male dogs for the simple fact; big boned & big head with no balls? Nah..not mine
@@ferdinandhuergas6040neutered male dogs lived 18% longer. neutering decreases the chances of developing prostatic disease and hernias, and eliminates the chances of developing testicular cancer
I have a female Czech German Shepherd, none of this is no big deal. They are very smart and true, they are dormant and protective. They also are very affectenent to the one person they choose as their master. Not only that, but they are very jealous as well. But don't let this keep you from an awesome dog. The biggest thing is to make sure they get enough exercise. I have to play ball with mine twice a day to get the energy out of her. They are not dogs for couch potatoes. Plus, I take her for walks 2 to 3 times a week. They love to explore. They are herding dogs, after all. They love to play too. And they love to learn, it builds their confidence. The more time you spend with your GSD teaching them tricks or walking or agility tracking or defense, the better they like it, I love my GSD
The female Shepherd will put her life on the line for you. All my females had longevity . They are highly trainable, and super protective if you put a bit of effort into them for the first year you will have the best dog in the world
Like so many others, I must say that my female GSD was nothing like this RUclipsr described. She was an old dog who adopted me at the local shelter. She had heartworm but I paid $2.5K for treatment - and she was worth every penny. She was incredibly smart, loyal, protective, and a great companion. She died around 15 years ago and I still miss her company.
Me too. My girly pup, (who's now 9 years old already 😮) has been an absolute blessing, with all the snoots, boops, bops and fusses and all in between. Wouldn't trade her for all the riches in the world. 🐾
Ohhhhh, the temperament is bs. Mine is obedient instantly. She is the one in charge of my 2 males. Males are more protective of me than my female, she’s mutual.
Our neighbor had two. A Grey one that lived nearly 16 years and a black one that lived 13 years. Both were good to us, though they lived next door and would often come visit.
My families female GSD is super well trained and listens perfectly. I even have her off leash voice trained. Most owners don’t take the time required to maintain the master role these animals need.
This makes no sense at all. I’m sorry and I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve had a male German Shepherd and also a female German Shepherd and my sister has a female German Shepherd and my uncle has two female German shepherds and nothing you’re saying matches any of this. I think this is pure speculation.
We raised 2 male German Shepherds and loved them. When the second one passed, we were probably going to get another one. Then a friend connected us with a family that could not take care of a female GSD. We adopted Ivory and could not be happier!
I have a 3 year old German Shepherd she's a big baby loves everyone and always at my husband's side. She's very good. Also shedding is ridiculous they she'd all year round so be ware.
My oldest brother had two German Shepherds, Rebel and Brandy; a brother and sister from the same litter. I don't remember if David got them in the late 1980s, or in the early 1990s. They were so sweet. We babied them their whole lives. They both died of cancer in the early part of this century. Rebel died first and Brandy a year later. Their vet used to tell us that Rebel and Brandy were the gentlest German Shepherds they had ever seen. They would let the doctor do anything he needed to, to them. They loved me. I was their favorite "uncle". If I was in the yard with them, and someone drove up that they did not know, they would get in front of me and sit, or stand; but they would smile at that person. They would not growl, or snarl, or act aggressive at that person; but if you have a functioning brain, and valued your life, you would not get any closer; because they would have killed you. They were the same way with my brother's two granddaughters who were like four and six at the time. We didn't train them to be that way. We loved them and respected them and let them be themselves. We didn't try to be too controlling. I miss them so much. After Rebel and Brandy died, we got wolves. They're all gone now. David's two wolves loved me. If I was in the pen with them, and some stranger came by, or a strange dog came by; they would not let me leave the pen until that person or dog was gone. They would not let me near their gate. They were all incredibly smart, the Shepherds and the wolves.
I had a female Belgian Malinois, which was very protective, loyal, intelligent, loving etc.. and recently passed away 12-20-23 live at age 13 and 6 months Miss you Styx 😔 😢 💔 love you so much
I had an GS//Japanese Akita crossbreed and for our 11years together she was settled, outside regarding those issues you’ve mentioned. During her seasonal X2, she’d’ bash out a couple of minutes worth of frustrations out of my bedroom pillows - but could take a verbal telling off without aggressive reaction.. she also had an adorable, mutual, respectful goofy character -which, just like humans, showed a different side dependant on who in the family she was entertaining. She died in March, 6wks after my husband’s passing. Obviously, it’s very, very different without them, but she & my husband we’re a ‘team’ thanks for helping understand the care & vigilance needed for the female dog. Best wishes, JaneR
I have owned and raised female German Shepherds never owned a male and I can tell you without a doubt they are extremely intelligent eager to please and great with children. They become their nannies never leave their side. They do not tire so easily. My females are always ready to go out for walks and runs and some are protective it all depends how you raise them. If you don't associate any German Shepherd they can get aggressive. If your not going to breed them get your female spayed so you don't have to worry about the heat cycle, pregnancy or them getting annoying. It's not that big of a deal. Spaying also helps prolong their life and I recommend to get them spayed before their first heat cycle . I always do never had a problem. When they are puppies it's less a hassle with them being down within a week or so they will start feeling better. They the best dogs I ever owned and can't see myself owning any other breed. They are not meant for just any owner or lazy owners these dogs need attention, grooming and exercise or can get destructive/annoying. I consider German Shepherd active breeds and very territorial and vocal these dogs tend to bark a lot.
Have had 5 GSD bitches over 50 years, never really had any problems, and they lived to be 13/ 12/ 11/ 11 and at present 4 so life expectancy isn't a problem. Also they are very affectionate.. Would certainly recommend them as a pet.
I prefer the females to the males. If you have both watch how the male will defer to the female when it comes to the family unit. The female defers to the male outside or for protecting the territorial space.
I have had 6 GSDs, 2 at a time. Always a male and female. I only bred once. She was a good girl.all my GSDs have been from Germany. I followed the German Schutzhund rules. It was not hard to neuter my dogs at age two, as recommended. My current female is 10, has always be healthy and happy. I will keep doing this. When Heidi passes, I will get a retired breeding female, spayed. My male is neutered already. I notice no difference in love and behavior. All my dogs protect me, but I train them to be socialized.
My wife and I have raised and bred Shepards for over 34 years. Female GSD’s are my favorite. All of our girls are protective. They are big smugglers. Best ones we have ever owned. Love my girls.
My female GSD has been a loyal, protective, and incredibly sweet member of the family. A lot of what this video discusses is just basic dog care. If you can't meet a dog's basic medical and training needs, don't get the dog.
Never have seen any issue with my female Czech GSD. She’s a big sweetie and far less intimidating and aggressive than my male Czech GSD. She’s a huge lover and still acts like a puppy - maybe it’s because she knows that her big bro has the protection and intimidation all locked down lol.
@@Gitartelitete Females in non-working lines can be great family doggos that are definitely more chill than the working lines. If its a female working line GSD, i would suggest having an older pup to help relieve some energy because they will definitely need to be ran or worked to get them to be calm. But if you train a female and work with her, what an amazing dog youll have - they love to train and work and do whatever you ask of them - plus, the females seem to be a little more crazy in a funny way. All depends on what youre looking for in a pooch!
@@Gitartelitete Your breeder would know or check papers - if you dont have access to either, a good way to know is how big is your GSD? What is the weight? Working lines tend to be a little smaller. around 80+ pounds for males and 65+ pounds for females.
My last german sheppard was female. She's still alive but deaf and blind and with my parents. She was the best dog any of us have ever met. She was raised in the bush and never needed a shred of discipline. Came when she was called and protected from day one. I have a 3 month male her adult size right now, and although he's pretty special, he doesn't rank on her scale. For what it's worth.
*Absolute NONSENSE! FEMALE GERMAN SHEPHERDS ARE THE VERY BEST. BEST DOG EVER and after 11 years, I purchased another female LESS THAN 48 hours after my previous female. She never required training, but you would have never known it, she was absolutely precise in her every move.*
I have to say my female GSD was a lot smarter than my males. Female is easier to train to. I find my male is more stubborn. So no I don't agree what this guy is saying.
We have had both sexes since 1974. No more males for us; too aggressive. Our females last about 15 years. All trail runners when young and all live on a big farm here in central Oregon.
I have a male and female German shepherd. And they both are lovely. Kindly don't spread misunderstanding among others, if they wanna female German shepherd they will, its their choice.
I also disagree l had a female gs l had her spayed as a puppy she was the smartest dog l ever had and l had lots, lived 17 1/2 yrs had hip problems at the end but she was tuff and very obedient yes she was the queen of the house but she was proper.
My first female GSD was the love of my life and my Heart Dog. She was exceptionally smart, and ecelledcat obedience trials and tracking. She lived to almost 14. I miss her to this very day ❤❤❤
@@coleshelton6469what stats? That females die 2 years younger than males? That’s not very statistical. Give me more such as where are stats about girls being more dominant or mood-swinging?
I have two BEAUTIFUL german shephard females and they are without a doubt the nicest, most loving dogs ive ever had. They both were spayed at close to a year and ive never had a single problem with either.
DON'T get your dog "fixed right away". Doing so too early can cause health issues down the line. It's actually recommended to wait until 2 years of age in some breeds, despite what some people may be telling you. Don't let your vet rush you into it. Do your research first.
@@camilexifon4217 , It seems like they just made everything up. Any dog can experience health problems, or not. The breeds that I would worry about, and avoid are the brachycephalic breeds (pugs, boxers, Frenchies, etc.) because they’re bred in a way that hurts their ability to breathe.
My female GSD is the best dog I’ve ever had-made me fall in love with the breed. Yes, she’s got attitude but it’s hilarious and always playful! Females I would also assume have much more of a sense of family and mine has been with me through so much…We are a team now :) …Plus, Female dogs also don’t go to the bathroom all over the place marking their territory-can’t stand that about male dogs, lol! She never chewed furniture, took no time at all to be potty trained, and doesn’t get aggressive over food, treats, or toys :)
He just described issues that can happen with any breed. I've had and currently have a female German Shepherd. People that experience problems with dogs has to do with training and time put in with the dog. With a GSD you can't be a couch potato. They need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and not bored. Female GSDs tend to "think" more before following a command but they do respond and are not more difficult to train.
I adopted my at female G.S.D. when she was 6 she had mammery gland issues before i got her she had been passed up by maney people that didnt want to take a chance there were no probleme for 6 more yrs. She was the best freind anyone could ask for she died 1/13 /24 i feel like she's still watching every move i make i miss her! She was my 4th. female G.S.D.
You are so wrong on so many levels. I have four female dogs from a 12 pound -13 year old papillon, 9-yr old husky, 3-yr old husky/gsd mix and a 9-month old 73-pound imported black GSD from West Germany. They all get along well together, because as a responsible dog owner I work with all of my dogs daily. I have had male dogs in the past, and they are more about protecting the property vs my late GDS --she watched over me and my family. She was loyal, sweet, and very gentle with small children. (She would lay down on the ground whenever a child would walk up to her). As far as mood swings, we all have them--including male dogs. A lot of female dogs will want to be close to their handler or family during that time. I don't see anything wrong with this behavior.
I’ve owned 15/20 GSD bitches throughout my life, over 70 years with know problems whatsoever. So much better and easier than the several GSD dogs I’ve owned. Training exercise and fun is what they need like agility etc. All lived to a minimum of 10 years old. Right now I’ve two bitches and a dog, out of all the different breeds I’ve had I always go back to having a GSD BITCH
I have two 4 and 3 years old Female GSD. They are all sprayed. My two angels they are my loyal and very confident friends. I will know the risks but I love them.
Knock on wood..... none of the Females i have owned in the last 35 years have passed younger than 13. My oldest was just shy of 15. I have an 11yr old European line longcoat that has perfect teeth, has never limped, runs, chases the ball. Her weight is perfect....being overweight is a good way to shorten any dogs life. Her coat is in great shape. She does nap a little longer than she used to but otherwise her vet says she is in great health. She was spayed at 1 yr.... Her half sister is a year younger. She still has the energy of a 4-5 yr old however she has always thought she was a Mal.... she does have tooth wear because she is an aggressive chewer. She also has perfect body weight. She is will be 10 in a couple months. She was spayed at 6 years after she had 2 litters of pups. Mammary cancer is usually caused from having a female that hasn't been spayed but has never had pups. The longer they go, once they reach maturity at 2 years...the higher the risk. The same is true for males. I have been training and showing dogs for 48 yrs, 35 of them gsd's. I have never had a dog get a UTI, have any problems concerning their urinary system period.
I have always owned female GSDs with the occasional male GSD. I will take a female over a male any day. They have proven to be more protective of the family than a male GSD. But you will find either one to be very smart and naturally protective when the need arises. I use mine as herding dogs on the farm and their natural protective instincts keep the small/large livestock safe as well as myself.
My female GSD IS 1 YEAR OLD just now experincing her first heat . She is a hand full . I am retired and spend all day and all night with her . She is under my feet every where I go I love her . All 85 pounds of her. She is so intelligent ..very powerful ...anti social .
I have a female German Shepherd and you can not be more wrong about it, she is around 3 female dogs and I have no problem with her, she is fixed and has regular checkups and she is also K9 trained. Know before you buy read about the breed ❤much love and peace ☮️
Unfortunately, I had a female German Shepherd. She was the best she was my puppy. She lived to be 15 years old other than the surgery everything you said, she contradicted every bit of what you said, other than being loyal.
My Isla is a 124lb big baby. She's so gentle, loving and sooooooo sweet. Never wandered. I bring her to the Long Term Care facility to visit my Mom. She's so gentle with all the seniors, she senses their vulnerability.
Our female GSD was with us for almost 13 years. Hands down the most beautiful, protective partner one could ever imagine. You have to put in the time, effort, love and leadership...but the rewards will last a lifetime. We miss our girl dearly.
Our female GSD is sweet and protective with me and my wife, but we took her to four trainers. She would obey until they ran out of treats, then go sit by the car and refuse to participate further. She is very prone to meltdown when she sees other dogs, but since we always have her on a leash when walking, it’s controllable. She has been a delight these 11+ years, but she’s incredibly stubborn. She’s been my “once in a lifetime” dog.
I love my German shepherd she is totally my amazing best friend. I miss her can’t wait to get home to see her she misses me and runs to the door and is excited to see me regardless of time I get home. She keeps my wife busy. It is a full time job and they need lots of love if you can’t treat them like your own then you don’t deserve one. They are very energetic they need lots of play time. Long walks super smart animals. Now I feel like I’m part of the wolf pack. She talks to me. Tells me when my car is running Ruff ruff
All my GS have been female......spayed......loving.....delightful......living to be 14-16 years......I miss them all dreadfully.....I am certain my 2-year-old GS will follow in their pawprints.....which are big pawprints to fill.......
My female working line GSD was TIL THIS DAY my best friend ever. I think about her everyday. Loyal, loving, friendly to people, but protective and intimidating when I needed her to be, super smart, quickly trained. She was beyond man's best friend. Lol! RIP Kemba 💓
Have my sons female, we bonded right away. Was very honored she wants to sleep in my bedroom. She is not overly affectionate like a male dog. But I feel so safe with her.
None of those issues would have prevented me from bringing my baby girl home. A year and a half now at her forever home, and she is definitely daddy's girl. I will always do what I can for her to be healthy and happy.
We have a female German Shepard and love everything about her. She is full of energy and does things the way she wants to do things. We say Maggie does things the way Maggie wants to do them. She is very vocal.
I have my second female shepherd. Both were spayed. They were very loving and loved to talk and sing. My fur babbies were smaller than male and quick learners. The older one is no longer with us Lived to be 13 years old. Soon to get another GS rescue to join family
I have a female GSD x Rottweiler (More GSD and just the ears and colors of a Rott)... She's beautiful and a gentle giant with everyone. The only time she freaked me out was wen she had a fight with another Pitbull and messed it right up! The funny thing is that she didn't look for the fight either but she sure finished it. She's currently 7.5 years old and almost has the same energy she did when I first got her as a pup. It will be a sad day when she leaves us
My last GSD (female) lived to 15 years. Not only GS but I’ve had 6 dogs all but 1 female. I find female dogs are more intelligent, wiser more faithful and attached.
my intact female was friendly, never bitten anyone, hardly ever barked - her cycle was almost unnoticeable and very little blood apparent. Her mood never changed, no roaming. Not sure where you get your info from.
A month ago my girl-dog passed away to the land of eternal walks. She was an exceptionally friendly, exceptionally intelligent and exceptionally disciplined animal. I NEVER had any problems with her. Even when she was in heat, on the most conceptual days, she never went more than three steps away from me unless I let her. We lived together in complete harmony for 19 years. And whether you will have problems with your dog or not does not depend on gender but on whether you can be the alpha in your family pack for your dog. And of course she was german shepherd! You are talking sick bullshit!!! Your speech sounds like the voice of someone who not only cannot understand a dog, but even doesn't like dogs. Because you see my friend, if you treat your dog seriously, he will reward you in the same way...
The first three apply to all female dogs - not just GSD. 4th is wrong in my experience, the ones ive had have been easier to train and more likely to stay near on walk not needing to mark. 5th 6th, fair enough. 7th i dont know all mine went to 12=13.
You could be talking about any female dog. My female gsd was the best dog I ever had. She was brought into my home with 2 other females. All were wonderful
My wife when 8 yrs and younger told me a story how she was almost attacked by a GSD but the father GSD to the pup stopped him from attacking her and protected her whilst she ran upstairs in fear
I had GSD of both sexes and the the only issues I see here that are valid are those pertaining to being male vs. female, which has nothing to do with the breed. I see zero difference in ease of training or long term temperament. All GSD want to please their owners and are defensive of their people and property.
I have been wanting to get a German Shepherd puppy recently to have living with me in my apartment that I live in by myself with my younger nephew. I did my research and I'm definitely going to be getting a boy, his name'll be Riley. My dream big dog should be coming home next year!
Heat cycles and bleeding indoors isn't really a problem.. If your shepherd is mostly an indoor dog than you already have to clean every 2 days at least once lol, a "dirty" shepherd is a happy shepherd and if you are to lazy to clean your own mess than you don't need to get a shepherd or any other shedding breed. Just use some moist toilet paper to clean those blood drops and if they are allowed on the couch than just put some blankets on top of 1 of those baby/kids bed covers for peeing in bed so that the couch wont get stains
I have only had female GSD s. They are loving and loyal. A spat after the first period is all it takes. No one should breed GSD s unless they know what they’re doing.
I'll ONLY have a female GSD! Our girl has a relationship with everyone in the house..and each relationship is different and great. Shes amazing and KNOWS instinctively to give space to small children. She is great with cats. She listens on command and can be let go without leash in any circumstance. Male tend to take to one person. Our girl is a family dog.
“Alpha” is an obsolete term.
@@Raven-lc5zd ,
“Alpha” isn’t a real thing in the dog world.
Like I always said to Monte “You’ve got my back and I’ve got yours!”
Regards
Yeah my girls far more protective than the boy but both in a very loyal way
I was also a Zoology grad and have had 25 years of pairs of GSDs.
❤
My female GSD was the most beautiful and loving dog I ever had.
Sheila was used as a puppy breeding machine until she turned 8 years old. She had a brilliant pedigree, all German, and was a straight back, so didn't have hip problems.
She lived till she was 14 years old, our male GSD collapsed with hip problems at 9 years.
My experience with GSD is that females are more loving and amazing with children.
thats awesome!
I've been around Rottweilers since 1975 ,
I help cleaning & walking my friends' dogs.
Totally agree
All these topics go for the male too. You have to get them nutierd. Then can also have temperament problems. At this point you are just making up ideas for videos
Neutering a dog isn't necessary, it's more of a trend nowadays. I never neuter my male dogs for the simple fact; big boned & big head with no balls? Nah..not mine
@@ferdinandhuergas6040 true

Amen ❤
The female Shepherd will put her life on the line for you.
All my females had longevity .
They are highly trainable, and super protective if you put a bit of effort into them for the first year you will have the best dog in the world
Make GSD are outgoing but not female.
I agree. My female was of pure European bloodlines. Brave. Bold. Protective. Obedient. She was the Alpha to two much larger males. 😂❤
And males are not? Shaddap
I disagree with this completely. Not my experience at all.
Me too. My girly pup, (who's now 9 years old already 😮) has been an absolute blessing, with all the snoots, boops, bops and fusses and all in between. Wouldn't trade her for all the riches in the world. 🐾
Same here I disagree and don't think that person has ever owned a female do never mind a GSD female lol. I have had 2 female GSDs. First lived to 15
Exactly. My female gsds have been the most loyal and protective vs the males that I have had
@@iamjustadad6951 Thanks man because I’m looking at this mixed German/Husky and she grabbing my heart right now
Ohhhhh, the temperament is bs.
That’s great!
Heat cycles, pregnancy, spaying and breeding issues are true of EVERY female dog.
I agree with you. This channel does not know the breed.
We raised 2 male German Shepherds and loved them. When the second one passed, we were probably going to get another one. Then a friend connected us with a family that could not take care of a female GSD. We adopted Ivory and could not be happier!
Same here ...my one dog passed a few days back...not sure to get one for the other as a new companion or not bcz he's also half of his age now
I have a 3 year old German Shepherd she's a big baby loves everyone and always at my husband's side. She's very good. Also shedding is ridiculous they she'd all year round so be ware.
I hear you I take mine out and blow off with the reverse system on the vacuum
German shedders!!
@@Charliesdad98,

I had a female Belgian Malinois, which was very protective, loyal, intelligent, loving etc.. and recently passed away 12-20-23 live at age 13 and 6 months Miss you Styx 😔 😢 💔 love you so much
I’m sorry for your loss ❤😢
A malinois is not a GSD.
Love the bread ❤
Oops I mean I love the breed
I love German shepherds!
1:00 isn’t that what spayed/neutering is for??
I am glad female GS owners are here responding to this nonsense.
The shepherd with the all black face in this video looks like a black lab in a German Shepherd costume! 😂
👍
GSD Females are the absolute BEST. I’ve had them bred them trained them and they are amazing!!! Will be getting another one soon!!!
That is awesome!
Our female GS was the best dog we ever had for her 13 years with us. She loved our children and was family
Both male and female german shepherds are the best. I'm 100% convinced that if you treat any german shepherd well, it will become a great dog.
She’s a huge lover and still acts like a puppy - maybe it’s because she knows that her big bro has the protection and intimidation all locked down lol.
awesome!!
hello, i wanna ask a question, bro(guess ur a man). do you recommend female GSD?
@@Gitartelitete Females in non-working lines can be great family doggos that are definitely more chill than the working lines. If its a female working line GSD, i would suggest having an older pup to help relieve some energy because they will definitely need to be ran or worked to get them to be calm. But if you train a female and work with her, what an amazing dog youll have - they love to train and work and do whatever you ask of them - plus, the females seem to be a little more crazy in a funny way. All depends on what youre looking for in a pooch!
@@autzenduck989 thank you. one more question pls, how to know my gsd is working-line or non-workin?
@@Gitartelitete Your breeder would know or check papers - if you dont have access to either, a good way to know is how big is your GSD? What is the weight? Working lines tend to be a little smaller. around 80+ pounds for males and 65+ pounds for females.
I couldn't love my female GSD more and I believe she feels the same way about our family.
I have a female GSD and I call bullsh!t on this. She's the most loving, calm and gentle girl you could ask for.
As an Female GSD owner I would not agree with any of these 😅
Neither would I.
My first female GSD was the love of my life and my Heart Dog. She was exceptionally smart, and ecelledcat obedience trials and tracking. She lived to almost 14. I miss her to this very day ❤❤❤

My female GSD was the best dog I’ve ever had and I’ve had so many different dogs including a male gsd
I love German shepherd. I adore the breed. No other dog is as loyal or as beautiful. But I'm prejudice
DON'T get your dog "fixed right away". Doing so too early can cause health issues down the line. It's actually recommended to wait until 2 years of age in some breeds, despite what some people may be telling you. Don't let your vet rush you into it. Do your research first.
This!
If we can’t test for a sound structure until they’re two, then how can we justify neutering before they’re two?
I am fostering one now. I have a male also and they get along famously. She is well behaved and affectionate.
So this just sounds like owning pretty much any female animal? Am I wrong? I mean mentioning the health issues is the only thing I didn't know here...

It seems like they just made everything up.
My Bonnie is an amazing! She is a German Shepherd just train and love them right they will be great dogs for the family
Can't say a bad thing tbh, they are the perfect dog

I want a GSD!
You will never be the same....our swet boy was amazing...love the head tilt and eyebrows

I will always love my Kira. I miss you so much you were the best. She was wonderful
I’ve always had females and I love them.
Amazing dogs for sure
I have always owned female GSDs with the occasional male GSD. I will take a female over a male any day. They have proven to be more protective of the family than a male GSD. But you will find either one to be very smart and naturally protective when the need arises. I use mine as herding dogs on the farm and their natural protective instincts keep the small/large livestock safe as well as myself.

Getting a dog in general will mean expenses. Having a dog have pros and cons.
I’ve got 9 pups left in north Florida. Sables and bi color 🐺
awesome!
It will be a sad day when she leaves us
Isn't this true with all breeds of dogs?
My last GSD (female) lived to 15 years. Not only GS but I’ve had 6 dogs all but 1 female. I find female dogs are more intelligent, wiser more faithful and attached.
I have a female GS just over 12 months old and she’s lovely and kind
I have had a 2 German shepherd’s and they were great dogs.Mine were spade.
I had a female german shepard she was a rescue dog and was my best fren for 16 years of my life
My male died at 9. My female was 13. She lived the longest of all the dogs I’ve had in my life. Close 2nd, was my female Rottweiler ❤
my intact female was friendly, never bitten anyone, hardly ever barked - her cycle was almost unnoticeable and very little blood apparent.
My GSD female lived to 16 and was a personal bodyguard. I thought she was easier to train then a male'
My female GSD was amazing she was the sweetest dog - and super easy to train and no dominance. This crap that make absolutely no sense.
