Convenient acceptance of Sanatana Dharmam/Manu Smrithi is such a shallow interpretation of Hindu Laws.
Exclusive rights to Sanadana Tharman as Hindusm is another misunderstood perception not only outside TN but sadly across the world.
The Tamil people Inclusive understanding of being identified as Hindu has its history rooted to the evolvement of Hindu laws. It should be credited to South Self Respect Dravidian movement.
During early Hindu laws when constructed by the British and the elite group then, had extreme inhumane elements on women empowerment, education and Temple entries. Dr Ambedkar cud not bear to accept this in his country opted to leave the religion. However the South Self Respect Movement stood its ground not to leave "Hindu" and made the changes to the law accordingly. Outside TN people must see the resiliennce of Tamil people on social Justice in this context and the results it had produced in terms of women empowerment, education and economic contribution compare to the rest of India/Bhaaratham.
