    Glad to see you mention Lord Belial and yes, it's a flute which is a quite unique choice of instrument but it works for me even if a lot of people dislike it.

    I think my all time favorite would have to be Sacramentum - Far Away from the Sun. Its just so solid in composition, emotion and has a very polished and quality sound to it, whilst retaining the grit and evil that comprises great black metal.

      Thanks man and yeah I really wanted to include Storm of the lights bane but I've always preferred The Somberlain and I didn't want to have more than one album by the same band. That being said, Storm is essential as fuck for melodic black metal!

    When you said to stop sleeping on Lord Belial, I paused the video, looked up Enter the Moonlight Gate, and gave the whole thing a listen. Fucking WOW!! Everything about it is amazing. Superb composition and the vocals are some of the best I've heard when it comes to black metal. I also really like the wind instruments they used in it, something I haven't heard utilized in black metal very often. I'll be rocking this album for a while. Thank you!

    Great list!!! Didn't expect to see some of them like Vinterland, Mörk gryning, Dawn,The moaning... Respect!!! I've always considered most of the bands mentioned to be melodic death metal in essence (call them darker mDm, or melodic death-black- it fits better than compare them to Mayhem and the likes). Fine line in here. I could recommend you in case you haven't heard them Noctes- Pandemonic requiem or Vexilla regis... Raise Hell- Holy target (meloblacktrashdeath), Abyssos any of the 2 albums, Necrophobic-Darkside, In Aeternum, Twin Obscenity ... and many more. Again Top list!!!

    Amazing list man, honestly. As soon as you whipped out Lord Belial and Mork Gryning, I was just like damn, this muther fucker knows his shit. Though, the ONE album EVERYONE imo misses and I have ZERO clue as to why, is Keep of Kalessin - Through Times of War, that album is just next level. They bring the old school BM from Snorre Ruch riffs and mayhem, to blisteringly epic Melodic riffs. The entire album just hits soo hard, its one of my top albums of all time. And yes Somberlain is 10x better than Storm the Lights bane, The title track and In the Cold Winds of Nowhere, seend you places youve never been.

Their debut demo Empires de Glace and second album Hantises are also very good. I would say Dans Les Bras Des Immortals is probably the most melodic/atmospheric but all their stuff is good.

    Do you know Djevel? I find them pretty melodic, and probably my favorite black metal band right now. Ciekals is just the master of the black metal riff. Every single album from them are sublime, but I recommend you start with 'Ormer til armer, maane til hode', 'Blant Svarte graner' (which is their most melodic one) and 'Tanker som rir natten'. Fucking perfection. If you can only be arsed to check out one song, go for "Illoeygd foedt som satans barn..." from Ormer til Armer.

      For me, its very hard to top the first few In Flames albums but I will say that Slaughtersun is about neck and neck with those early In Flames albums.

    I’m not a fan of black metal or I should say not as much but I do like dissection, bathory and immortal. Cradle of filth but they are not really black metal

    I think the title of first melodic black metal band, would have to go to rotting Christ.

      @MotleyCrueforever1  6 лет назад +1

      metalmoshingmad777 Never considered Rotting Christ to be melodic black metal but they’re still a great band nonetheless.
