If you ever get into mixing you will discover that guitars that sound great in a mix don't sound good by themselves. Frequencies need to be mostly sucked out of the low end to not create mud with the bass. The upper mids are also often a bit spiky to help cut through and not get buried in the cymbals or higher vocals....again, this doesn't sound so great isolated but is critical to mixing.
