- The [Desarmados] are songs that have been deconstructed in order to appreciate them from a different angle: the tracks components.
This separation is usually based on each instrument: guitar, bass, drums, vocals, piano, strings, etc. Whenever is possible, we try to include all data concerning the song, such as recording sessions and production info, quotes, trivia, personal perception/insight, etc.
Los [Desarmados] consisten en canciones que han sido deconstruidas para apreciar desde otro ángulo los componentes de la canción, generalmente esta separación se basa en cada instrumento: guitarra, bajo, batería, voz, piano, cuerdas, etc.

That opening riff with the clean tone is so fucking sick
Yeah, it's so good! I play guitar and when I hear him play it, damn, there's so many nuances and it's so cool
Up pick the first chord and you'll be closer to the original
Yeah it's well "ill" innit.
Then the switch the to distortion is also sick
amp is vox
Smells Like Teen Spirit isn't just a song, it's a musical achievement.
Ese solo el el himno del grunge eo mejor
Looked this up just to hear 2:54 without any other sounds. Didn’t disappoint.

@@FrankyGotTheBill yes but everyone is used to hearing it with the drums

my dad though the guitar only of Interstate Love Song was me. XD
That’s happened to me before even though i play guitar

it’s 2020 if you see this you are cool
Th
One of the most underrated aspect of this song is how in the pocket Cobain is with his guitar. Just listen that intro. He’s so groovin, not rushed, not dead and robotic. Just right there in the pocket waiting for Dave to come in with the fill.
Great sense of rhythm and groove
@@GauudyyReally the secret to his greatest songs. Incredible rhythms. Possibly from being self taught.

I always will love the guitar solo at 2:56
Me too
It’s my favorite part
And the little VVVVWWWWAAAAAA before it starts
The feedback at the end of the solo is the best part ever
its my fav solo tbh
I love how rough around the edges it is. Like you can hear him accidentally hit the wrong strings at some points but it only adds to the whole tone of the songs.
They double tracked the guitar, and his vocals on this track, thus creating a bigger sound. Look at Drain You, they used like 5 different guitar tracks and played them over each other.
I think they actually quadruple tracked the guitars with different amps
Yeah butch big even said he had to lie to kurt to get all the guitar tracks he told kurt that something was working and they weren't recording.
@@dirtydan8694 **coughs in manipulation**
@@nimrod7139You can clearly tell what Butch wanted to do style wise with Nirvana by listening to Garbage
I never realized how thunderous the guitar is, good lord
Dude, the solo at 2:54 is actually fucking sweet
Obviously i knew the drums weren’t coming in but Jesus, not hearing them in the beginning really did surprise me
I’ve noticed that the distorted guitars actually fade in really quickly at the beginning rather than just coming in immediately
Due to the fact that Kurt couldn't get the timing of th activation of the pedals right so they might've overdubbed the part...
@@ninoraydelacerna7182
I think that, like on Drain You, the clean guitar track is played together with the overdriven. On Drain You you can clearly hear the clean guitar throughout the whole song. I think they didnsomethung similar here, but have the clean guitar throughout the whole intro only.
There’s a vid where Butch Vig talks about the distorted tracks on Drain You fading in quickly and the mix overall. Very interesting watch.
You can slightly hear the drums at about 0:30
You can hear them after every acoustic note, lol.
well, it is impossible to edit out every little note, especially in acoustics
Why acoustics? It's just an electric guitar without distortion
Do you people not know what an acoustic guitar sounds like?

the feedback after the solo hits hard, really beautiful
idk why but i love when mutes sound squeaky and scratchy like this
Sometimes its hard to believe that Kurt himself played this, considering his careless personality. He made it very clear in his work that he took his music seriously. Even in the slurring and screaming he put lots of effort into. Though he was overall kinda really I still have lots of respect for the guy. He had a good heart.
This is actually great practice. It is pretty hard to get the timing down at first.
But real Nirvana fan hear Bass and drums in their head
Fmc 2465 Nirvana,Alice in Chains and Pearl jam are my favorite bands ever
Fmc 2465 nice
But REAL nirvana fans listening to very ape, and milk it.
And also kurt voice .
Real fans don't need to call themselves real fans.
Kids, kids, kids.
You won't be able to replicate this amp with your Line 6 or Fender Mustang modeling amps. There is no "amp setting."
It's okay. You don't need to replicate his tone with his exact gear. Just get a crunchy Fender with a humbucker and a vintage tube amp with a lot of mid. Tack along a Boss DS1 or any high gain distortion and you'll be okay. I promise.
I love Kurt and Nirvana and am a gear freak but his tone on Nevermind is a plethora of sounds.
+HappilyWithMonotony From what I know, he primarily used the Vox AC30 and either the Fender Jaguar HH or the fender mustang with the seymour duncan JB along with the DS-1, Pro co Rat, and big muff for the recording sessions of nevermind. I'd say thats as accurate as you're gonna get.
+Louis Dale
Yes but the guitars are doubled, tripled, quadrupled. There is no one amp and one setting to his tone on this album which is why when people ask "Oh what setting is he using," they're probably kids who think they can find it on their 15-20 watt practice amps. I thought the same thing at one point as well. It's not that simple. Butch Vig is on record saying that he mixed and blended so many different tracks that it's not something you can replicate with one amp and one setting.
It's the curse of Nevermind. It sounded so good even Nirvana couldn't replicate it live.
Yeah, Butch Vig Did say he tripled the guitar tracks...But Still! I'm not saying you'll get the EXACT same Sound, all of it was done with some Mesa Boogie Preamp magic and some crest power amps and all that jazz...It's just as close as I could get.
+HappilyWithMonotony Why would a guitar need to be Fender with humbuckers??
Right the mustang he recorded the song with had two single coils
sounds way more grungy

That signature fizz of the ds-1 is unmistakable. My favorite distortion pedal and probably my favorite guitar pedal of all time

I love this final chord, this distortion mixed with the chorus ... It creates an incredible atmosphere 4:49

Squirrel I commented this when I just started to play guitar, but hey good for you
oh yeah sorry ^^
Bruh that guitar give me chills
@MattShredder49 He uses an BOSS Distortion, which is a foot pedal that he hits with his boot to activate it in the choruses..Simple when you know how dude !! A tried & well tested trick of swapping between 'clean' & 'dirty' guitar sounds..Been doing it myself for years & years only I use an OVERDRIVE pedal & a VINTAGE TUBE OVERDRIVE & DISTORTION & swap between the those two pedals when not using a 'clean sound directly through my AC-30 VOX Amplfifier..Both pedals I use are made by 'BEHRINGER'
I feel like I wanted this but I didn't know.
2:54 is so good I only looked up to this
drums is audible in some parts
Some parts might have been recorded in the same room as the drums and the mic in front of the guitar cabinet picked up the drums too. They would say the drums bleed into the guitar track.
They would cut a live take with vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, and then they’d do overdubs with extra guitars and vocals
LONG LIVE KURT COBAIN. ❤
You will be forever revered, & remembered for your masterful employment of simplicity to create timeless, ever-rejuvenating art. ❤

I live for the high pitched gain feedback on every single chky chky
THAT sound to me is the defining Nirvana sonic characteristic. I've never heard another guitar player replicate that, only Nirvana. I'm not even sure how Kurt made it sound like that, his sounds almost squeaky and chorus-y, but I don't think he used chorus on his distortion parts.
@@eurekasevenwave2297 Turns out that one of the reasons his tone is so muddy and distorted is because his strumming technique, using his whole forearm instead of just the wrist like most guitarists would do.
Ok, from wikipedia and Butch Vig, the albums producer, "The guitar chords were double tracked because the band "wanted to make it sound more powerful," according to Vig.[16] The chords occasionally lapse into suspended chord voicings as a result of Cobain playing the bottom four strings of the guitar for the thickness of sound."
It is true, in a documentary Butch Vig himself says that they double tracked it to make it more powerful..
ye and then in drain you they used like 7 tracks
damn, the guitar is huge
double tracking 😉

Awesome!!!!
I know people say this song is easy but I find it almost impossible because of the strumming pattern. I can play much harder songs than this but I've never ever been able to get the strumming pattern to this right
Imo its not that hard, if you use a slim pick that bends easier its super easy. My problem always was because of the muting part, but I eventually got that down aswell.
@user-md2zx4vq1n yeah I can do it without thinking now...... its amazing what a difference 9 months makes
It will always smell like teen spirit 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Just like Come as you are 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Boss DS1/DS2 (mainly the DS1 but sometimes he would use the DS2) and the EH Small clone, Kurt used the EH Polychorus in Radio friendly unit shifter for the intro.
He’d use the SansAmp classic for distortion around the Utero era
He liked the rat aswell
How did you separate the parts of the songs?!?!?!? PLEASE ANSWER ME PLEASE T_T THANKS A LOT
it's the multitrack of the song. The parts are separated.

Because people don't like Nirvana for their guitar work. They like them for Cobain's songwriting which is better than what 90% of supposed "guitar gods" can put out.
There’s def a hidden track. On the album you can hear him bomb down from the big E string the first time he hits the distortion pedal.
What do you guys mean with a hidden track? Can you give me some video where they explain that? I don't hear any hidden track. Maybe it's because I am a guitarist and I know they always double or quadruple track guitars for better stereo and all around sound

If you put ur ears closely to the speaker, you can hear some hidden guitar track mixed. Idk if it is really “mixed” or he just added them up.
2 guitars in the chorus?
Butch constantly had Kurt multitrack.
"John Lennon did it, so...."
3 guitars actually.
@@jwjones1979 he was talking about vocals there
0:26 Small Clone?
Yup that's the chorus Kurt used on almost all songs that had a chorus effect.
You can hear the drums in the background
For the grunge anthem it's become, it's funny that the two note chorus guitar on the verses is actually sampled. Also drums have kick and snare samples all over. This song was designed to be extremely radio friendly. And it paid off handsomely.
Fer Abra nothing is sampled here, WTF are you talking about?
The trademark two note guitar lick on the verses is sampled. Recorded, sampled and triggered from a sampler. The kick drum is augmented by samples. The snare track is a sample in its entirety. Stop with WTFs, do your homework, and check out the multitracks as I did.
Fer Abra references?
You can download the multitrack here multitrackdownloads.blogspot.com.es/2012/03/multitracks-n.html (mogg file). In the video above you can perfectly hear that the clear two note on the verses is the same bit repeated over and over. They sampled two bars of Kurt's best played one and triggered it with a sampler. There's a drums isolated video where you can clearly hear the real kick and kick sample panned differently.
Fer Abra i hear what your saying but i dont think thats what happened here. i thibk it sounds that way yes, but from my understanding of how this was recorded. he even had a hard time getting kurt to do second takes. tho he did do them, they wouldnt loop or sample anything. just has that haulting sound, i think they cut off the guitar (instead of leaving it on, they do this to cut back ground noise) after each "two note riff" your reffering to which is what you may be picking up on.
@MattShredder49 lol he doesnt change, he play it separatly
damn did they double track the solo too?
Well yeah it's an easy solo
@@greenlixr5442 well yeah i know that. Although on second thought im pretty sure its just the way the chorus effect is. Likely single tracked
Two things if u listen close, hidden guotar track amd drums playing at around 0:30
@AnotherDayInTheDitch on his voice, no. But on his guitar, yes.
I kinda like it with guitar only
@MattShredder49 Well, chorus and distortion pedals both on and he plays CC F CC F over and over.
My visual representation of this guitar tone is when you crush a meatball with your fork taking the first bite…
@MattShredder49 he uses a padle which changes to octave of the guitar I think
