I grew up near Jerry. Dan's emotion reflects what a decent human being Jerry was beyond basketball. Decency is sorely lacking these days. Jerry was decent. What more can one say?

Dan's story at 4:52 choked him - and me - up. Seeing Dan Patrick get this emotional is very rare - but it speaks volumes of the respect and love he had for Jerry West.
I caught the very tail-end of Jerry's career, so I didn't see him at his absolute peak, but I have come to understand that he, truly, was one of the all-time greats. And seeing Michael Jordan's tribute to Jerry West earlier - saying that he would have loved to play against Jerry and, even more, play WITH him. I mean, wow, those are not words that Jordan utters very often. That is also incredible respect for Mr. West.

I had an aunt, who I lost 10 years ago next month. Her name was Jerri West. When I was a kid, I felt so cool being able to tell my friends that, joking about it and such when I was in grade school in the 60s. Always wanted to meet him to tell him that. R.I.P. Mr. West. 😌

He was my childhood hero. I had the good fortune to spend time with him in Maui at a basketball camp he and Magic did. He was straightforward, genuine, 1st class, and one of a kind. I am heartbroken but I'll cherish the memories for the rest of my life....❤

I did'n't have the fortune of meeting Jerry West, but my earliest memories of basketball included him and I went on to love the game, playing in high school and staying active nearly to my 40s when an Achilles tear sat me on the sofa. Today's NBA holds no interest for me, but Mr. West set me on a path with many happy memories of playing.

He knew the game like a few others did, but shared it in a way that wasn’t in your face. A terrible day for the NBA and sports in general. Rest easy, Jerry.
Jerry West a true classy man. I think about Chick, Jerry and Kobe being apart of my childhood. This is going to be a hard one.....I wish so much I had been able to see him play or see him at the Forum.

Was a Lakers fan since the late 60's, Jerry West was my favorite player, nothing but a class act and a fierce competitor. His book, West By West is excellent, and gives a inside look on his life. RIP Jerry, you will be missed.

After reading about him, I had no idea that he didn't think highly of himself and didn't think he was really that good...what a legend!!! "the logo" is all anyone needs to know about his impact on the league.

It was very clear, throughout his appearances on the show, that Dan Patrick had the highest utmost respect and admiration for Mr. West. Dan was actually the first person I thought about when I read the news. Mr. Patrick will never read this, but just in case: I’m truly sorry for the loss of one of your heroes.

I have been a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers since 1965-66 - and that was because I admired him.
To have that effect on people that Jerry West obviously had on Dan and countless others who considered him a friend...is the greatest thing you can do in life and the highest honor your life can receive when you pass
Jerry West lived with, and in that sense overcame, an awful anxiety disorder most of his life. That he didn't let it ruin him for the people in his life is attested by his friends here. I heard him on tape with Mad Dog today talking about the people he admired: the givers. He suffered a lot, but found a way to give so much to others. The true measure of the man.

I met Jerry at a event at a local car dealership . He was the nicest person ever . Patient, was cool with everyone. Took a picture, told him thank you for helping turn the Warriors into a winning team . He mentioned Dan Patrick , says that's a good man right there . Rest easy .
He doesn't get the recognition he should. For the role he played with the warriors. Threatening to quit if they traded klay for kevin love. Then convincing Kd to join. Just an all around great basketball mind and person.
Jerry West brought together Kareem, Magic, Worthy and Kobe and Shaq after among a lot of others. When Magic quit as President before the Lakers hired Pelinka all the Lakers fans were saying they should rehire West despite being over 80. West was working as a Clippers advisor semi retired and ploitely shut that rumor down but when he was interviewed he was unreal sharp as could be it was obvious he would have been a fantastic GM even at 80. Mr Basketball, Mr Logo, Mr Laker RIP Jerry.

Jerry West way before my time but recently watch some videos about how good he was. Some of his stats are very amazing and he had a great career that shouldn't be forgotten due to time.

Apologize if I don’t know the gentleman’s name here, but I really appreciate everything he had to say about Mr. West especially the idea that it would be a great opportunity for the NBA to recognize West & cement that he is the logo. West was always about the first name Jordan said he would’ve loved to compete against when telling people it’s unfair to compare eras & rank the best. Also, Walter Payton was my first sports hero too.

Your comment about the Big O and Jerry being rivals as the premiere NBA guards of their era probably had 89% of fans under 55 wondering...Who is Oscar Robertson? People forget that as recently as the 70s, football and baseball were THE spectator sports, and even hockey and boxing were more popular than basketball. Basketball was gaining popularity but still somewhat niche and its future as a massively popular global sport was not guaranteed. West was one of a handful of people that helped elevate the game to its current status. It’s honestly not much of a stretch to say Jerry West is one of the main reasons so many of us grew up with close access to basketball courts. RIP Logo😢

Dan, as always, very real and touching. We lost another legend. You said, you wanted to be like Jerry West, I did as well, but not as a player. When I left the military in the 90s and I was entering the corp world, I didn't really have a role model growing up in south chicago, my dad was a laborer, I saw this interview with Jerry west, and he was dressed to the 9s and talked about being a professional, liked seeing guys dress up for travel, taking pride in how you present yourself, I took that to heart. God Bless Mr West and Rest In Peace.

RIP to a legend. Modern fans have to understand about Jerry West as a player, he was the most complete guard offensively and defensively before Jordan. He went to 9 NBA Finals, had more 35+ point games in the Finals than anybody else, 5th all time in playoffs ppg at 29 PPG, averaged 27/6/7 without a 3pt shot, and of course was arguably the greatest executive in NBA history.
