Why have I just fitted new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres to my Audi R8 GT Spyder? I got a puncture on a rear Continental Sport Contact 6! This meant changing at least both rears to maintain left-to-right grip balance - so I figured, why not change all four for the internet famous Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss?!
I take you on my day with an update on the 370Z Nismo, a tour of some of the cars at my preferred tyre centre - Mr Unique - and then test out the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss with the help of our resident racing driver - my son, Damani Marcano!

Wondering how we do those in-car shots? All explained here: ruclips.net/video/hlMhrLT6q20/видео.html
By scrubbing the tires during a drive. He is removing the release agent the tire manufacturer uses during the moulding process. SportzNtouring knows his stuff.
I have PS4S on my F30 BMW. I had Michelin AS3+ on my X1 M Sport. Just went to Conti DWS 06 Plus on the X1 and they're WORLD quieter than the AS3+. Has me eyeing up Conti's summer line up.
Nice! Well, you'll probably find my latest video interesting... Testing the all new Continental SportContact 7!
ruclips.net/video/se-lhtprdvg/видео.html
The continentals make you feel like you are a magnet
And the SC7s are next level... ruclips.net/video/se-lhtprdvg/видео.html
Nice mate! I've just changed tyres on the daily! I chose the new tyre in the UUHP mix the new Bridgestone potenza sport ! So so good! All I ever hear is superb reports on the PS4S !
Yeah, I've heard great things about the new Bridgestones via the TyreReviews.com RUclips channel. Curious about those too!
Sick video... with my cls definitely gonna need new tyres soon 😂 also congratulations on the 3k!!!!!!!!
Hehe thanks bro!!
Awesome video ant, love the cinematics at the garage 👍🏻. Love the bond you have with your son and how you share the passion for cars, it really shows on screen, great stuff. What class does he race in? Great review of the tyres, you gave a great test and overview of what they are like. When are you taking the beast on the track?
Thank you! Really appreciate that! As for when it's going on track... Watch this space. Working on it.
Yeah, our relationship is like a blend of father-son/brothers/best mates 😊
He was in the VW Racing Cup a few years ago. He stopped racing for a while to focus on his education. A few hints at that were dropped early in the video where I surprise him with the keys to the R8 for the first time.
Check him out on his (not very up to date) RUclips channel... ruclips.net/user/damanimarcano
Loved Damani’s face when he went in to race mode behind the wheel, totally see the focus! Can’t wait to see him put it round a track, brands maybe?
Haha! Yeah, he loves a sorted drive. We'll see about track days. Working on it. The biggest challenge is our current warranty doesn't want to cover it and then the excess on track insurance is about 10-12k... And if someone else hits you... Tough. So, just looking into our options and risks.
@@sportzntouring wow! I had no idea the insurance was like that but I guess it makes sense. Surely with your connections you could arrange a closed session for a few laps?
Respect for letting your son drive, i own a audi tts mk3. Its my pride and joy and ive never let anyone drive my car but me 😂😂
Ahhh, well, he's a better driver than me...
You should see the first time he drove it...
ruclips.net/video/25O__Ee1t9g/видео.html
Awesome video BTW 🔥🔥
Thanks bro!!!! 👊🏾
When are we gonna see you and demani on track? Love to see what that machine would do on a track !!
Working on it 😉
My experience with 4S on my 370z is that they need a bit of driving in to get the best grip. So easy to trigger the vdc light when they are fresh even with a stock 370z.
Yeah, I took it easy for the first 60 miles. Then... They really came on! 😁
What sizes are you running?
I’m running 265/35 R19 and 305/30 R19. Volk TE37SL 19x9.5” in the front and 19x10.5” in the rear. I filmed a new video which should come out soon on my channel.
Do you think the PS4s is true to size? Some have said the Pilot sports are more bulky than the conti's? (slightly taller and wider)
Interesting. I don't know the answer to that.
Strewth.... not sure what rubber is on my old jalopy as I haven't seen it in about 6 months 🤔
Wouldn't make much difference anyway..... it wallows on corners and takes *forever* to get close to the National speed limit 🤣😁
Wouldn't swap it though..... well... maybe I would consider taking a 🕷🕸 as part exchange lol.
Joking aside - cool vid 👊👍
Thanks Graham! Worth updating the tyres... Most have a life of max 6 years I hear. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤙
Its time too change tyres on audi tt 8n 2002 model 180hp 235/35/19 and im between Michelin ps5 and continental sc7 in greece is 700 euro the price for this 2 tipes..i have the car daily and the road's are not the best in Europe..🤣 so what tires u tell me to chose from this two?
Thanks for watching. That's a great question but I don't have any experience with the PS5. What I know is the PS5S is not out yet and the PS5 isn't it same class as the PS4S so the SC7 (which would be the tyre to compare to the 5S rather than just the 5). It sounds like wear rate is important to you too and I can't say which wears better. I would recommend TyreReviews.com for your research into this. My reviews are more subjective feedback whereas their reviews are more in depth tests. I hope you're able to make the choice best for you.
Great video
Are the Michelin PS4S AO/RO as in Audi approved. Would they allow the PS4S as I’m keen to fit on my TTS as well
I'm not sure what you mean by "AO/RO as in Audi approved" can you explain what you mean?
(That also means I probably don't know the answer to your question)
@@sportzntouring thank you for the reply. AO means AUDI original equipment approved, RO means Quattro Original Approved. Thanks again buddy
@@shiranRSA cool. Not heard AO/RO before among anyone I know. Are you also UK based?
Obviously, I guess it's worth checking with your local dealer on what's approved. Do you need that for some warranty/leasing reasons or is it that you're buying a new car?
@@sportzntouring Very late reply, but if you didn’t learn about it yet, tyres sometimes come with a homologation stamp (I.E. AO). So you’d be getting a Pilot Sport 4S XL AO, for example, instead of a Pilot Sport 4S XL (Which is the regular tyre). Just means the tyre was adjusted in accordance with Audi’s preferences. The AO will be after XL on the sticker that’s on the brand new tyre, as well as written within a circle on the tyre sidewall.
I just fitted some AO rears, but will be fitting ordinary fronts to my 2017 R8 Spyder. The tread lines etc. seem roughly the same. The compound preferences may be slightly different, but something with a sub 1% overall difference (on the road). Never had AO’s on my 2014 R8 V10 Spyder (Just ordinary) and they were already as good as it gets.
It is a shame you could not change back to the Continentals again to compare now that you are used to the new tyres. I have the Continentals on my TT and love them so I was curious to hear about your Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
I'm pretty used to the Continentals. I've also got them on my Z. At first, I preferred the bite on turn in with the Continentals. They felt sportier... But I think the Michelins have the edge mid-corner and on exit... And are a more comfortable ride. I think it's largely preference. I suspect, however, that the Michelins would perform best overall... But not by much. I'd be happy with either tyre.
Did road noise get quieter with the Michelins? I guess that’s what you meant about it rolling gentler maybe it have a softer compound @7:25. I have Continentals and they are loud to be honest, especially on even mildly rough patches of road. You think upgrading to Michelins would be an actual upgrade?
What I mean by "gentler" is that it has lower vibration (the "V" in NVH). As for road noise, it is all quite marginal and hard to tell as the car is already quite noisy. As we say, the Contis have a more responsive feel to them but the Michelins have a more progressive feel. It seems like you prefer lower NVH, so for you the Michelins will probably be the tyre that suits.
@@sportzntouring I hear you. You do have a good 6 cylinders more than me😄, I have a 2.0L A4 so it’s sort of quiet but not so much on the hwy as I said before. And I know it is capable of being way quieter that this. If that’s what NVH is then I definitely prefer it lower, never heard of it till now, thank you for your input good sir.
NVH = Noise Vibration & Harshness.
I've got the Contis on my 370Z Nismo and it's a car that's renouned for road noise, but I quite like the noise as it's part of the feedback from the car. But I'm unusual in that sense. I get the impression you'll prefer the Michelins... Assuming they do the right sizes for your car.
@@sportzntouring oh yes they have the right sizes for my car, quite on the expensive side each. But seems like they’ll be worth it for what I’m getting.
We hope you like them and that this video helped! Thanks for watching 🤙
I was surprised you didn't put this tyre on the Nissan. The continental was a good choice though, but I went with the 4S on my Nissan thanks to tyre reviews and Michelins hard work at making tyres last
I didn't want to change sizes and the PS4S wasn't available in the stock sizes for both front and rear at the time. I quite enjoy the Continentals still.
@@sportzntouring yeah I understand that. The front is an odd size isn't it. Let us know how long the Conti6 lasts on your Z when you come to change them though. They only managed 6k miles on my brothers Type R
My first ones lasted about 10k I think, but I did abuse them a bit 😲
@@sportzntouring oh you've changed your tyres twice already? 😂 That's decent mind 10k is good enough considering the abuse they get
On my third set in two and a bit years but the latest ones are still good. Less miles and less donuts last year 😬🤣
And Continental SportContact 7 ?.
I think I prefer the SC7 (have you seen my video on that?)... ruclips.net/video/se-lhtprdvg/видео.html
Tested on a different car but I think it will be what goes on the R8 next.
@@sportzntouring O.k. Thank you.
Do this properly on a track, instead of putting at risk other people's lives! Also if you use a Tesla, you get to hear better the tires.
All road traffic laws were adhered to while driving. If you perceive a risk, this may be based on limitations of your own personal driving experience. Please don't assume that applies to all.
Indeed a Tesla would be great if I was reviewing how noisy the tyres are for people who want quiet tyres for their EV (these are not EV Tyres - EV Tyres are a different specification).
Instead, I was giving my subjective review of the experience of the tyres from a sportscar driving-enthusiast's perspective in real world everyday use, on the kind of car they were intended for. I wasn't reviewing these tyres against the criteria of track use so why would I drive on track?
Michelin is the best no one ,contintal are sucks not worth for 1$.
What specific tyres do you mean? I tried both and they were both good tyres. I think in balance, I prefer the Michelins though. It's worth watching the TyreReviews channel for more in depth professional analysis.
Bruh the extreme contact sports are just as good as the p4s. They are better in the corners. But the p4s are more versatile. Both have advantages
lol midlife crisis!
Haha! Not sure why you say that but if I am, what can I say, I'm living my best life! 😎

I'm switching to continental
The continental SC6 isn't quite up there with the PS4S, but the SC7 is great in my opinion.
