I bought this at a good price recently but it remains in the backlog still in the wrapping, so many thanks for flicking through!

Yea - I got it in Feb and finally decided to take the plunge - I really enjoyed it. And beyond carrying it around - pretty fast read.

I loved spending hours at the “David Is” and the “Exhibitionism” exhibitions. There were so many great things to see and explore. The corresponding beautiful books that you showed seemed to do justice to both exhibitions. The size of the Dylan “encyclopedia” intimidates me. I’m amazed that you read all of it in only two weeks. Thanks for giving me such a great sampling of it.

Thanks - it's a fairly quick read because lots and lots of amazing pictures. Yes, David Bowie Is and Exhibitionism were amazing and well captured in their corresponding books.

Sorta edit : including an original copy of Tarantula - which is..um..unique🤷
Bob did a 10 night stand at the Warfield in SF when Slow Train came out. Epic!
But my fave tour was with Tom & the Heartbreakers!
A buncha stone road dogs! Tight AND loose if that makes sense. Tougher, more R&R, and a jangle that can't be duplicated!🤘😎🤘

Thanks - I saw that Dylan / Petty & Heartbreakers tour. I'm a big Petty fan. I always thought Petty and The Heartbreakers were fantastic live. One of the all time great rock "bands". Of course, I'm a huge Dylan fan. But the show I saw of that tour - Petty and The Heartbreakers were so superior to Dylan live. The show lifted tremendously when Petty was doing his sets and the energy depleted alot when Dylan resumed. it was strange. But certainly a great interesting tour and was great having such an amazing band supporting Dylan. I have a great vinyl bootleg of that tour called Last Night in Far East. Great stuff.

I made the trip to Tulsa last year. So much to see! And as a bonus the Woody Guthrie archive/museum is a block away.

Thank you for this video .... I used to pick up books on Dylan regularly but stopped once I got "genned up" to the era I started buying his new releases regularly (At Budokan, Slow Train onwards) .... not "really" enjoyed a new studio release of Dylan since Time Out of Mind ... (just odd tracks here and there) ... but do have all the studio albums, all "normal" live releases, all but a couple of the Bootleg Series (missing the biggie re Blood On The Tracks) ... seen him 81/89/91/93/98/ 08/11 ... and tickets for November in Edinburgh gig are onsale 10am tomorrow! ... favourite LP is, currently, Street Legal ... so many great tunes ... although it would be even better if it was "un mixed" (like Revolver), super cleaned up and re-assembled ... preferably issued with a few of the European or USA shows from that tour (must include the slow version of Tangled Up In Ble though) .... will now try to get this book based on your review ... looks great. Thanks again CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland ... p.s. a playlist of the "best" Dylan songs from 1978 through Under the Red Sky (including several live tracks from the Christian era shows) has THE Dylan tunes that I go to most .... even includes about half of Empire Burlesque as some of these songs are, for me, just fabulous.

You really are a big Dylan fan - all those live shows. I pretty much lost any desire to see him live as the last couple of times I saw him, I thought he was pretty dreadful. with that said, I love his balls in that he plays whatever the hell he wants to play in his own way. Wish the Stones would follow suit with playlists. I remember when Street Legal first came out. Thought Changing of The Guards was possibly my favorite Dylan song then, and then I felt the same way about Senor. Then Baby Stop Crying. but i never liked the sound of the vinyl. When I got the SACD version thought the album sounded light years better. funnily enough, I thought I was the only one who liked Dylan At Budokan when it came out. Still kind of like it. Seems to be getting more respect now, with the reissue. I really liked the "original" material studio albums starting with Time Out Of Mind (the best by far), but I also enjoyed the ones after.....except Rough And Rowdy Ways. Critics were tripping over themselves calling it the greatest etc. Did nothing for me.

I saw the Stones exhibit in New York too. I went specifically for the exhibit, but had a lot of great food too. It was during the holidays. I have the Dylan book but have not attempted to read it yet. If you but it out there, you might get the Wishbone Ash book for the holidays this year. Just saw that a box set of the Faces at the BBC is coming out. I'll have to gift myself that😂

I'm sure the Wishbone Ash book will be beautiful but $200+ for a book. All these limited edition beautiful books that come out for insane prices. I guess they know what they're doing because they usually sell out, but not for me. My backlog of books is already huge and theirs always more to read. I'm not rich and I work way to hard to shell out that kind of bucks....for a book. As beautiful as it will be.

    Looks like a great book.
The companion cd comp is mucho skimpy at 12 tracks, heck the red "Dylan" single disc comp has those 12 tracks plus 6 more, lol!
If a friend asks me to recommend a good Dylan comp, I recommend the Essential 2 disc set, the three classic GH albums, Biograph box, or the red Dylan comps.
I believe there are two or three versions of The Essential 2 disc-er.

There's so many Dylan comps. I agree with your picks. Funny I still play the three greatest hits albums as well - Damn near perfect for what they are. Essential is great. I also have some very cool live compilations as well. The 3 disc Red comp as you said is also great. There's so many.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow If they want a studio album recommendation from me, I would say Blonde on Blonde, because of the variety, acoustic, electric, hits, great deep cuts, and its a double album on one cd.
One of the greatest double rekkids ever made!
You should put that Dylan cd on a scale and measure it, lol!

Hi Alan, different topic but I wanted to let you know I saw the Stones at Levi’s Stadium last night and they put on a fantastic show. Their performance as 80 year old's defies logic, and in my opinion the Stones are still the world’s greatest rock n roll band. I have never seen a better live band.
My only small criticism is they went a bit heavy on the new album tracks, they did 4 songs. I know they are promoting Hackney Diamonds but 3 songs would have been plenty. I’m saying this as a Stones fan of 50 years that loves all their 60’s,70’s and 80’s output. After Bill left I kept buying their albums, but I have to be honest I’m not as keen on the modern stuff. Maybe Bill was the real genius behind the Stones after all, LOL. I really can’t get into Sweet Sounds of Heaven, and I think encores should be reserved for old classics to finish the set rather than promoting a new song.
But hey that’s a minor gripe and was made up for earlier in the show by being treated to 3 Keith songs, which of course were all classics. I keep thinking this might be the last time I get the chance to see them, and got a bit choked to see only 3 of them take a final bow without Charlie. But then I thought 2019 was the last time I thought I would see them and was proven wrong, so hopefully they will prove me wrong again.

Also I forgot to mention they came up with a great surprise to play Far Away Eyes, I love that song. My wife's mother comes from Bakersfield so we always get a kick out of that line.

thanks so much for your report. I watched some videos from your show. You got, in my opinion, a really good setlist. You got two tour debuts in one show - fantastic version of Far Away Eyes (love your connection to Bakersfield), and Bite My Head Off from Hackney Diamonds. You also got Like A Rolling Stone which I LOVE!!! It is incredible how amazing they sound, especially Jagger - has he ever sang so good? And it's all real and all live - astounding for anyone, especially 80 year olds. Now it's funny that you want less new / rare stuff. I'm apparently in the minority. You won't believe it, but I saw the 2nd Metlife show (which also had a very good setlist), but the 2nd half of the show, I lost my excitement. the crowd was great. We stood and danced the whole show. It wasn't that. It's that....frankly....I'm bored with the same classics over and over again. I LOVED the first half with the new tracks and some "relative rarities". But for me, I've seen the classics more than enough. But it's fun to hear from a fellow big Stones fan, who feels the opposite. The Stones and most of the world agrees with you. For me - give me all deep cuts and do the fan vote on one or two classics...lol Thanks so much for your report.

      @@TheAlanRosenbergShow Hi Alan,
Thanks for your reply, but I think you misunderstood what I was saying about I don’t enjoy the new stuff as much. I’m in agreement with you in that I love to hear the Stones play stuff they don’t normally play, but I would prefer to hear deep cuts from their older albums like, Off the Hook, Heart of Stone, Little Red Rooster, Mercy, Mercy, I'm All Right, Play with Fire, She Said Yeah, The Singer Not the Song, I'm Free, Gotta Get Away, Blue Turns to Grey, Mother's Little Helper, Miss Amanda Jones, Who's Driving Your Plane, etc. In fact I wished they would have given some acknowledgement to their debut album 60th anniversary by playing a couple of tracks like Route 66, Can I Get a Witness, or Walking the Dog. This is some of the stuff that I would like to hear, which probably puts me in the minority as love the older albums and especially the blues covers.
What I was trying to say is that I’m not as keen on the “newer” albums after Bill quit, and going forward in the 90’s and beyond. I still buy these albums of course as I’m a diehard Stones fan but I just archive them after a few plays and don’t go back to playing them much. The 60’s 70’s and 80’s are the golden period of the Stones studio albums for me and that’s an amazing feat to be that consistent over 3 decades, and is no way a put down on what they are doing today. I guess they are keeping current with the times we are in, but it’s not really for me. But that will never dissuade me from seeing them play live, and the Stones will always be my number 1 band.
BTW: I forgot to mention it was great to hear them play "Get Off of My Cloud" last night, another old classic they don't always play.

@@bobjpgr3683 oh I understand. Really interesting point you make. They are so not nostalgic. Never really celebrated an album’s anniversary. And yes all that early classic material is long forgotten unfortunately. Most of that stuff has never been played live or not since then. Wonderful seeing Get off Of My Cloud. Always great live. But yea I’d love to see that deeper stuff including the 70s stuff of course.
