Why "Six Pack Ab Workouts" Are A Waste Of Time - In today's video I explain why the typical "10 minute ab workout" routines that you find plastered all over RUclips are ultimately a waste of time if your goal is to lose belly fat and achieve a defined set of six pack abs. It's not that ab TRAINING should be avoided - the problem is this misguided notion that the abs are some sort of "unique" muscle that should be trained in some special way and that you need to be dedicating your time to entire dedicated ab workouts. The abs are a muscle just like any other and so the same basic muscle building principles apply. There's no need to perform endless ab exercises with hundreds of reps at a time, since spot reducing fat isn't possible and the only goal of ab training is to hypertrophy the abdominals in order to make them stand out more visibly. That can be done with just a few basic ab exercises added into you regular training plan and you don't need an entire "six pack ab workout" performed multiple days a week or even every day. The problem though is that so many people are searching for the "best ab workout" or thinking that some gimmicky "flat stomach workout" is going to lean down their midsection in a matter of days, and that's why all these popular channels such as Chloe Ting, Athlean-X, Blogilates, Chris Heria, V-Shred and more are constantly uploading these ab routines to RUclips even though the videos themselves aren't that helpful for the intended goal. Hope you find this video helpful today and if you have any comments in regards to ab training workouts or how to get a six pack then be sure to leave them down below.

always hate how people say ab crunches are the best way to remove stomach fat or lose weight or get a six pack. when I was 10 or 11 I bought into that shit hard and I can tell you Ab crunches do none of those things by themself. I would easily do hundreds of ab crunches a day and thousands a week you know what I got, not a six pack, permanent damage to my spine.

I think one of the most important functions of the abs is to maintain core stability, meaning that it's valuable to do isometric exercises where you resist movement rather than move under resistance. I get a lot of value out of plank rows. It's just a high plank with a wide leg stance, and you alternate picking each hand off the floor for two seconds. The goal is to only move your arm and avoid changing any other element of your posture.
Three sets, less than twenty reps, and I can really feel it. I throw in some hanging leg raises or L-seats from time to time. That's it for me. I don't have a six-pack but I have noticed more core stability during squats and deadlifts. If I really want a six-pack, I'll diet like crazy. Since I'm natty and in my forties, with uncooperative genetics, it's just not worth it for me.

    • @easypeasy7584
      @easypeasy7584 2 года назад +8

I think you are mixing up things. Abs and core are in the same region, but are not necessarily the same. You do core exercises and they work and target other muscles than ab exercises. Your 'abs' is the rectus abdominis as well as obliques, wheres 'core' is the transversus abdominis, pelvic floor muscles as well as other muscles like mulitfidi etc. You activate all of them in a different manner (however some cant be activated actively). The most important thing about ab routines is to know how to properly activate and engage the right muscles and what movement they do. The main problem for people failing to grow abs is that they are using momentum or the movement itself isnt correct or the resistance is too low. Take sit ups. I love sit ups and they are a legit exercise. However, most people use momentum and only engage the hip flexor. But the job of the rectus abdominis is to bring the upper body closer to the pelvis, and not the upper body closer to the knees. If you sit up vertebra per vertabra it is such an exhausting exercise whereas I could do hundreds of sit ups in the wrong way. And it is a perfect exercise to add resistance. So once you know the function of each muscle, all those ab exercises are seriously legit. And for the deep transverse muscle it is important to do anti rotational exercises and plank variations as well in order to strengthen it. the TA Muscle works all the time and it get a good isometric workout in most of the exercises IF you know how to engage it (usually it is explained as "sucking in the belly button" but I dont think this explaination is very accurate because when I suck in my belly button I dont automatically engage my TA, you have to learn it properly, but it is pretty simple and doesnt take long). I couldnt squat properly without ky TA working really hard.

I get you're all about getting those hardcore trainings on gym but saying everyone should stop training at home and go to gym, put on 120kg on each hand and start lifting otherwise they're just wasting their time, is huuuuge BS here. Everyone needs to start somewhere and doing simple pushups will get you great results over time. Same with abs routines if you combine it with right amount of cardio and diet. Saying that something is a waste of time just shows how little your words are worth and how less respect you have for someones work.

Finally an honest answer with no bull shit. I figured it was just a matter of consistent reps while increasing your failure points. I spend 20-30 minutes a day and seems to be working fine. I also realize that body fat visually isn’t going to disappear in weeks. It realistically takes several months while staying on routine.

    • @queenb9668

I agree with you on the first part .. but body fat does not take months to visually disappear lol. You can literally start seeing results in as little as 1-2 weeks and can most definitelyyyy see a difference after just one month .
But then again , I guess it would depend on your body type and how over weight you are , and of coarse , Diet.
But I've neverrr seen it take someone a few months to start seeing visual fat loss results when working out on a consistent basis.. it just realistically doesn't take that long in my opinion.

"Why Ab Workouts Are A Waste Of Time" is a little bit of clip baiting. Although in the actual video you explain it correctly. As you said they are not exactly a waste of time, they do strength the core muscle which is something really cool if you want to have big abs muscle and other positive stuffs, but they suck when it comes to burn fat. I would change the tittle to "Ab Workouts do not help to reduce belly fat (DO THIS INSTEAD!)". It explain better what are you trying to say in the video.

For someone who is out of shape (like myself), I have found encouragement from seeing before and after videos of people who followed a 10 min abs video, or 15 min workout. I have been so encouraged that I started doing a few myself and have been pretty consistent over the last week and a half. I haven’t worked out everyday, but getting 35 minutes or more in most days when I used to work out zero days has been huge for me. And while I know I’m not going to see my abs in 7 days or two weeks or whatever it may be, I can tell I am building muscle underneath this layer of fat that is slowly melting away as these workouts help increase your heart rate so as to be able to burn fat. I can tell because I am able to workout longer without feeling so totally exhausted, and I feel like my heart rate returns to normal faster than it did. So, we all have to start somewhere. And I am glad for these types of videos on RUclips as they are helping me in my health journey. I hope your video doesn’t discourage other people from trying them out because they can be very beneficial.

I see lots of these comments though. Just because you did something that helped you doesn’t mean it’s an ideal method to get results. I’m glad it worked but doing body weight ab workouts is not really anywhere close to the ideal way to lose weight. Here are some things to know to stay generally healthy while getting stronger.
You can't target fat in certain areas but you can target muscles. Just do a variety of core workouts for different muscles. Hollow holds, v ups, sit ups, L sits, Russian twists. Those types of workouts.
Don't forget to do cardio. Make sure you target other muscle groups too. Don't over exert yourself. Increase your workouts slowly over time. When you feel ready, try to go further.
Eat healthy enough, but you don't need to completely cut out the fun foods. Be consistent. Make exercise part of your life, and try to find a way to enjoy it. I personally like going on walks when I'm not feeling a hard workout. Most of all, don't worry too much. You don't have to be shredded to be strong or healthy. You're trying, and that's awesome.
It's not always easy, but it's doable. It feels quite good. Best of luck :)

@@Sean_Nalewanyj is it true that ab training is good for definition of the abs and not getting them to show? Cause I’ve heard people say that ab workouts are useless entirely as most of the popular ab workouts are back on your back and you can build strong abs through your regular workouts. Kinda like how you always technically train arms because all workouts require some kind of arm strength

    DEFECIT + CONSISTENCY = SUCCESS
Fat loss and especially in the abdomen area requires a lot effort in terms of being consistent in the gym and your diet, if your on a deficit long enough then fat loss will happen. It is hard and will require a lot of time and effort because our body will prioritize losing fat in other areas on our body first like our face, arms and chest area before it moves to the abdominal area which will take roughly around 13-16 weeks depending on your body fat percentage. Each individual have their own plateu but once they reach their plateu then their abdomen area will shrink but like I said, it's hard and grueling since our body will prioritize losing fat in other parts of our body before it moves to the abdomen, just don't give up, either love or/and hate it use it as a motivation and trust the process and you'll get there.

I think he says it because most want their abs to show and not for actual core strenght. I find most Abs exercises hella boring so I pick up the best and most entertaining to do, and yeah I also work on them for Advanced Calisthenics
